  1. If i buy an album via Amazon i sometimes get the streaming version for free and i just add it to my Itunes. Have to admit i'm not using itunes as much as i used to. I now just download my own albums onto a USB and use in the car rather than ipod etc. Dave
  2. That list has highlighted something i never gave a 2nd thought. I do watch bands on youtube. On many occasions someone mentions a band to me and i go and have a listen and if i like it i buy the CD album. I just thought of that as similar to old vinyl days when you would listen in the music shops before buying. If you like it you buy it. Sometimes i'll play a band on youtube even tho i already have the album. Interesting how i never really appreciated what i was doing. Will it change me ? i'm not sure but i'm being honest. Dave
  3. I'm old school and still buy CD's. Only downloads i get are when i buy the CD on Amazon and i get the free album download too. I don't use Spotify or any other streaming. I'm a great believer in the artists should get some of the profits from their own albums. Some of the stories i hear are quite surprising and such a shame really. Dave
  4. Ran thru first half of our set with a pick and the song in particular i wanted to use it for was mainly the Sweet Ballroom Blitz. Guitarist in our band now wants to do the live version with more attack. Good news is that i found the pick not too difficult after all. Still needs a lot of work to get my confidence in using a pick. The bit in middle where bass is prominent is the bit i struggle with. Not fast and not technical its all about the rhythmic feel of it. Comes so naturally with my fingers. Good first stab tho. The DAVA picks have certainly made a big difference. Dave
  5. There's no right or wrong way to play bass as long as you can play with confidence and enjoyment. I see pick playing as an added tool. No different from slap or finger-picking styles. I don't deny i prefer fingerstyle and it feels more natural to me but that's probably down to 40+ yrs of fingerstyle. Then again i'm no expert or even competent at slap as a style but i muck around a bit with it just for fun. To get to a decent level using pick i want to try and play our full set where appropriate with the pick and eventually i can pick and choose when i want to use it. Dave
  6. I haven't used a pick in such a long time but the HD DAVA ones are pretty good bits of kit. Dave
  7. Gave them a quick try and they definitely feel a lot more comfortable in the fingers and no sliding between my fingers with the rubber type material. Just got to master the technique now. I just dont have a natural rhythmic feel with the pick but if i use my index finger like a pick it feels more natural but i'll certainly give the DAVA a chance. Who knows this might be the turning point where i master the pick 😀 Dave
  8. New DAVA picks arrived few mins ago, will give them a wee shot later on today.😎 Dave
  9. that's quite impressive pick style. I'm amazed at that. Nice. Dave
  10. My brain is constantly muting my thoughts. Sometimes i'm a complete blank. 😂 Dave
  11. Cheers @Cuzzie Ordered a set will be here tomorrow. Can always depend on you sir. 👍 Dave
  12. where's the best place to buy them ? Can only find guitar versions ?
  13. Badfinger - Timeless. A Musical Legacy album. Love this song. The bands story is quite sad. Huge talent but just didn't seem to happen for them. Rob Evans voice on this at times reminds me of earlier Geddy Lee.
  14. Used a pick when i was taking lessons for 18mths about 40+ yrs ago then changed to fingers since. Been asked on several occasions to use a pick for more attack (usually by guitarists). I can do fast parts with a pick when palying a lot of different notes across all 4 strings but struggle playing broken 8ths on same note for some reason. I've gone down the route of growing my nails long enough to catch strings and provide enough attack that everyone is happy. I enjoy using my index finger as a pick. I find that quite a comfortable playing style altho the finger gets a bit painful under the nail after a while. I keep working with a pick at home as it could be a useful tool in future. I also get sore fingers holding a pick after about 20-30 mins but i'm putting that down to lack of practice with it. Dave
  15. Nazareth at Perth 2003. So loud i had to leave along with a full hall leaving a few rows at front centre stage that couldn't hear the full blast of the PA. The annoying part was the band sounded great from the lounge area. It was at a HARLEY davidson bike rally. There were a few i remember leaving Glasgow Apollo with ringing in my ears but i'm guessing at who they might have been. Thin Lizzy, UFO, Whitesnake, The Firm, ? Might have been Rush but don't recall feeling uncomfortable at their gigs. Dave
  16. Rush Exit Stage Left from Glasgow Apollo during Hemispheres tour 1980. I was there. Dave
  17. My Canadian mate has a platinum copy of an early Triumph album. It came with white gloves and instructions not touch it with skin as the oils would damage the coating. It might have been there first album as Blinding Light Show was on it. Dave
  18. Canada has produced some amazing rock / prog bands over the years. Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush too. Some of the bands on your list i don't recognise but will have a wee look now. Triumph were another amazing band. My young brother sent me a FB message few weeks ago saying he'd come across a great band i might like called Triumph. I had to laugh when i told him i had their albums bought in late 70's / early 80's. 😂 Dave
  19. Bought Million Vacations after seeing the band support Rush on Farewell to Kings tour i think it was. Fantastic band. Dave
  20. Another band i had forgotten about from 70's and another Canadian band plus i know the keys player who is from same town as myself and we have shared a beer or 5. This was one i saw in a shop and was curious. Mate didn't join the band until their 3 rd album and i only met him just after he joined. We still keep in touch occasionally thru FB as he lives in Canada these days. Probably more a drinking buddy than a mate 😂
