Canada has produced some amazing rock / prog bands over the years. Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush too. Some of the bands on your list i don't recognise but will have a wee look now. Triumph were another amazing band. My young brother sent me a FB message few weeks ago saying he'd come across a great band i might like called Triumph. I had to laugh when i told him i had their albums bought in late 70's / early 80's. 😂 Dave

Bought Million Vacations after seeing the band support Rush on Farewell to Kings tour i think it was. Fantastic band. Dave

Another band i had forgotten about from 70's and another Canadian band plus i know the keys player who is from same town as myself and we have shared a beer or 5. This was one i saw in a shop and was curious. Mate didn't join the band until their 3 rd album and i only met him just after he joined. We still keep in touch occasionally thru FB as he lives in Canada these days. Probably more a drinking buddy than a mate 😂

Meatloaf first album when i saw it in a record store it just looked amazing. Turns out it was an incredible album and well worth the money.

For me a 4003 Jetglo is probably the one i'd go for. I do like the blue burst they did yrs ago but they are rare. Dave

I've seen early 2nd hand Squier basses go for over £1k. I struggle a bit with that. I played one when they first came over here and it was OK but no better or worse than the Colombus J copy i already had at the time and they only sell for few hundred quid 2nd hand. Prices have been hiked because its an early Squier ?? Personally i wouldn't buy something like that. Not sure i'd buy a classic Fender either at the prices they are going for these days when i could get something of better quality for same or less money. This is all subjective as its solely down to personal choice. As for the 4005 i personally find it ugly and not something i would give a second glance. Dave

Genesis - Seconds Out Peter Gabriel - Live
-
In late 70's i left a Whitesnake concert because the sound quality was so bad. All i could hear was low end boom from bass drum and a Peter Gabriel concert cause i was so bored. Wasn't really a Gabriel fan at the time. Nazareth concert because they were that loud it was painful. Was at Perth for a Harley Davidson biker weekend circa 2003. The hall went from full and packed to empty within a few songs apart from a small group in centre front. For me the sound engineer should have been sacked/ They carried on and sounded great from the bar area. Suzi Quatro in same venue the following night and everything was perfect and her bass solo was pretty good too Dave

Bass players just know 😂

You don't see the location until you open the post tho. Most posts i've opened have used the location to be fair. I was thinking more upfront as i might not bother looking at EU items if i know i wont be buying them because of the added hidden costs. Dave

Have to say i really enjoyed that. Dave -
Think a location like mine should be compulsary for everyone. Would make life easier all round. From memory was that not so with the old system. ? Dave

Then maybe a location added to the title. It would then automatically remind you to add the additional costs. Until the brexxit trade issues settle down i'm not sure i'd buy from EU at moment. If the bass is 2nd hand we wouldn't pay VAT in UK so do we still pay VAT if its 2nd hand from EU ? Dave
-
Fair enough. Not a big issue. I guess i still get to look at some gorgeous basses i've not seen before 😁

Looking through the Basses For Sale section, i found an awful lot of the really nice basses are for sale outside the UK. I've never bought from outside the UK but after Brexit i assumed it would be far more difficult and costly so now i don't really pay much attention to those basses once i see where its located. I could be wrong in thinking that but not sure at all. Would it make sense to have a seperate section for outside UK sales or have the location on the title. It seems to have reached a point that since we left the EU i'm seeing far more (nice) basses from EU. Anyone else have thoughts on this ? Has this been raised before ? If so just delete the thread. I'm good with that. Dave

i practiced them at a slower speed and worked my way up. Its just a great song that pushes you a bit to do better i always think. Because of that bass line its "THE" classic rock song for me. Instantly recognisable from that keyboard start. Dave

I did it approx 10 yrs ago based on a music sheet i found on line and comparing with Neil's version it was pretty accurate. From memory it did take me a little while but once i got the feel for it the only bits i then had to focus on were the little ad-lib runs he was putting in. I was so chuffed when i turned up at rehearsal and we played it as a band only for the guitarist to say he preferred the later version and i was out voted and ended up playing a version that was boring in comparison to Neils version. No matter i was still really chuffed i had mastered it as close to Neil's version as i could get. I'm recalling it as i write and another hard part was keeping it as naturally flowing like Neil was able to do. Dave

Musical talent was 1st class but to have that level of song writing excellence and still not have the success you deserve is so sad. Dave

Think i should have put this in General Forum. ANY CHANCE MODS COULD MOVE IT FOR ME ? Dave

Makes you wonder how many great bands simply failed to make it a success because of managers creaming the profits and screwing things for them. Maybe that's a title for a new topic. "Name a band that didn't have financial or fame success because of Poor or fraudulent Management" Dave

Recently played a hit single by a band called Badfinger and came across this track called Maybe Tomorrow with Tom Evans on lead vocal. What an amazing voice on this song Incredible band, great songs but what a sad story about Pete Ham and Tom Evans. Victims of shady management deals. Not good considering how talented the band were. Expected to be the next Beatles. Produced by McCartney and Harrison at one time i believe.

Now i just tell them that i've been playing fingerstyle for 40+ yrs. Its how i play and if you want a pick style then best look for another bassist. Most bands have backed off when i say that. I have left a band who persisted with the pick thing even tho i grew my fingernails enough to catch the strings and give the exact same attack as a pick. The guitarist still wasn't satisfied so i left. 6 mths later they asked me to come back and complimented me by saying that my style was the thing that was missing with the replacement bass players they auditioned and tried out. I do play quite hard in rock bands and it comes across when playing within a band environment. It was a Friends of Deep Purple tribute. Shame cause i really enjoyed playing the songs. Dave
