  1. Are the SBL lessons worthwhile. I keep meaning to just dig out reading material on theory and push myself a bit more but never seem to get round to it. A subscription might be the way to push me a bit more. Dave
  2. You need to use that version with a special Creamery pick up for that mint-ed sound. Think this is going well off topic so i'm gonna stop now and just say that obviously my concentration and commitment to bass playing during Covid is fading and i'm only spoon feeding my addiction. Dave
  3. Stainless on both counts Nickel for general playing wooden spoons for folk music
  4. Surely for this level of musicianship it has to be fingerstyle. I'm surprised you had to ask that question. 😁 I have seen them played with a violin bow but that was just showing off and had no musical content. Dave
  5. Brilliant 😂 You'll find most spoons are fretless. Most players prefer that smooth bowl finish. "Fretted" or more commonly known as "ribbed" ones are very rare but you can get them. They produce a more vibrant tone with defined harmonic tendancies in the upper range. 😂
  6. Bought me wife a set of the Audio Techs M20X for use with her tablet. She loves them and when i tried them they were pretty impressive for £50. Part of her Xmas too. 😂 Well made and quite comfy. Dave
  7. I'm finding that i'm using my 6 string fretless a lot more especially enjoying playing along to Peter Gabriel Live album. So many opportunities to drift off and do your own thing with that album. Dave
  8. Is that soup spoons or have you moved onto teaspoons yet. Teaspoons is where the talent comes in and you find a better, more experienced social network that are all willing to put the effort in. You don't get to teaspoons without putting the work in on soup spoons. Tablespoons will take you to the lower end of the market and best avoid. Dave😂
  9. Try Andertons i think they were doing them too. You can also buy direct from Beyer but you'll probably be paying full price but they have a sale on at moment i think.
  10. Do they do different versions of the DT770 as mine are labelled Pro. Looking at the website they do a Pro, Studio and Monitor version. No idea what the main differences in spec are. Mine are def the Pro version. Dave
  11. Mine are the Studio ones 80ohm but i dont recognise the "monitor" version either. Think @jrixn1 is right enough. Great set of phones, well balanced across the tonal range with no excissive low end coming across. Very comfy and lightweight too. I can sit for hours on end with them on. Well made too Dave
  12. Its an odd thing for me but when i have a few weeks off playing at home and then start again i seem to have a new lease of life and can play better, faster and just seem to be more "into it". I want to learn new things or master some of the things i tried before but couldn't be bothered putting the effort in. Take a wee break and all of a sudden it falls into place. I've always been like that. 45 yrs now. Dave
  13. If you've got gritty P you should see a GP. 😂 Sorry, couldn't resist Dave
  14. An option suggested to me on this thread was to buy a passive VS4 and change the pick ups to something more like the old Fenders. Think Creamery pick ups were the favoured option and having priced them its not a big cost to get that Fender sound in a bass that is far superior IMO to most Fenders you pick up. Just a thought. Def something i might look into. I like my VM4 as it is mainly because its almost the perfect bass for me. A slimmer neck would probably make it 100% perfect but i really am nit-picking now. Its still one of the best necks i've played on a bass. Dave
  15. I've practiced less but when i do pick up the bass i have so many ideas and styles i want to play better. I've been pushing myself a bit more on chord phrasing if that's the correct terminology. Not great at slapping style so i've mucked about a bit with some of that picking up on some Marcus tricks and Henrik Linder from Dirty Loops. No expert and will never be at their level but its nice to fool around with. All in all i've been listening to styles i normally wouldn't play or attempt to play. Been playing my Overwater 6 fretless a lot more too not so much for the fretless but more for the 6 string options. This is what i used to do before i rekindled my interest in playing in bands. Dave
  16. What's the difference between the PM4 and VM4. They both have same pick-up config. ? Dave
  17. I've never seen one of those before Steve. Definitely a keeper then if its that rare. Dave
  18. What's the bass at the back of your rack Steve. Looks interesting. Dave
  19. Thanks Steve that's an amazing offer and very much appreciated. Guitar Guitar does have the occasional Mesa cab in so i will probably be able to try each cab individually and get a feel for them. The PH212 is a great cab but i occasionally find it lacks a little on the top end punch and i think the215 cab might be the same. Not so much a treble top end more of the mid to hi end punch. Historically i found the old 15" were always a little bit woolly on their own and i always added in a 210 to get what i wanted. Ideally 2 amps into the separate cabs with a more bass focused EQ into the 15 cab and a more mid focused tone into the 210 cab but that would cost an arm and a leg if i went down the Mesa route. LOL Think i originally got that idea from a Neil Murray interview back in early 80's when he used Peavey heads. Dave
  20. Excellent review Steve. Thanks for sharing. Still not sure about cabs. 215 intrigues me but i've never used a 215 cab. The combination of a 115 and 210 is what i'm more used to over the years. Will need to try them when they appear in Guitar Guitar Glasgow with a bit of luck. Still liking the idea of the 2 channel TT800 tho. Dave
  21. Glenn Hughes voice is the epitome of a Rock vocalist. One of my heroes for vocals and bass. Dave
  22. I quite like the 48 and TT4 colours. Not sure if its something i would buy tho. Dave
