New Mesa Subway head - Further update with added snake oil
dmccombe7 replied to Steve Browning's topic in Amps and Cabs
Excellent review Steve. Thanks for sharing. Still not sure about cabs. 215 intrigues me but i've never used a 215 cab. The combination of a 115 and 210 is what i'm more used to over the years. Will need to try them when they appear in Guitar Guitar Glasgow with a bit of luck. Still liking the idea of the 2 channel TT800 tho. Dave -
Anyone ruptured a tendon in their plucking hand?

Glenn Hughes voice is the epitome of a Rock vocalist. One of my heroes for vocals and bass. Dave -
I quite like the 48 and TT4 colours. Not sure if its something i would buy tho. Dave

I def like this idea. Fantastic VS4 bass and slot in some of those Creamery 58's which aren't too expensive and you have the perfect bass. Superbly made with the tone in my head. You can pick up a VS4 for decent money on BC. Dave

My VM4 has the Sandberg pups. I also have a Fender PJ. The Berg's sound like the Fender pups but for me they don't have the exact same sound. I think the Fender sounds a bit warmer. Personally its not a big deal for me The quality of the Berg bass is by far superior. If its that Fender P sounding warmth that you're after more than a great quality bass then i'm not sure Berg will do it for you. I've no experience of any other Sandberg pick ups. Perhaps others will have a more in depth knowledge of the various Sandberg basses and what options might suit. I'm currently thinking of a Fender P bass as i like that particular tone too but its taking me a while to find the right bass that plays as well as my VM4. Dave

Is that not the Le Mans race team colours over the years. 48 is Porsche Gulf White might be Ford Red Ferrari Green maybe Lotus or Bentley

Are you out in Niagara area by any chance ? I saw one of those Cobra's running about when i was on holiday over there altho it was 15 yrs ago LOL My VM4 doesn't have Delano's. Sandbergs own make. They also do others but we need @Cuzzie in this conversation to explain all the differences. He's my Sandberg Guru. LOL Dave

Love the Cobra. Anyway having played and owned quite a few different basses over 40+ years i find the VM4 i bought 18mths ago to be one of the best basses i've tried. Quality is 1st class especially compared to some Fenders i've owned and tried. Neck is a dream to play with such a low action because of the Plek system. I'm down at circa 1.5mm on E string. Being a hard player at times i've found other basses all i could get was between 2 - 2.5mm. Bass came with the low action too. I get no fret buzz and neck is almost perfectly straight. Quality of pickups and pre-amp appears to be up there with the best of them IMO. Knobs feel firm and smooth rather than loose like my Fenders. My only negative on the VM4 is that the MM pick up doesn't have the Stingray sound but is more mid focused but i can live with that. Machine heads are nice too and reasoably tight but again smooth. All in all i would highly recommend the Sanberg quality. Dave

Agree, My Cali VM4 is quite noticeably lighter than my Geddy Jazz or Precison Deluxe PJ. In fact its lighter than any of my other basses except the Yamaha BX1. Perfect balance on the strap too. Dave

Still have my white one from 80's. Wasn't worth trading or selling when i bought a new bass so i took frets out and made it fretless. Was my first attempt so not a great job. Really thin necks, very fast and a pretty good EQ selection. Series / parallel switching too if i remember right. Can't fault it really. Wish i had left it fretted. Dave

Birminam 😂 Wondered how long it would take someone to get that.😂 Dave

I prefer the maple neck with blocks one. I find the maple necks give more of a zingy sound than my Rosewood necks. Maybe its all in my head tho. Dave

Brings back vivid memories of when i was in nam Dave

Ouch !!! 😂 Poor Steve 😂😂😂

Saw that on FB today as well altho it was a 5 stringer he was showing off. Nice looking bass Dave

Does this book still have your sense of humour running thru it or have you gone for a more serious book this time. ? Just read the Amazon write up and its sounds like a proper serious book. I do enjoy your books but its the humour that draws me in. Dave -
I'm now back to preferring my 4 stringers and just a lot happier with them than the 5 & 6 stringers. Kinda odd as i was always asked to bring the 5 or 6 stringers to studios. Engineer loved the Dingwall NG2 sound as he said it was almost like a piano sound. Dave

To be honest i'm happy with mine the way it is from factory. Not measured it but i think its similar to my other basses which are typically 18mm on the Warwick and Overwaters and 19mm on the Fenders. It doesn't make much of a difference when playing altho i did have an ESP 6 string with 16mm spacing and i kept getting my positioning wrong but maybe that was more down to the fact it was my 1st 6 stringer. Are the saddles adjustable for width ? Dave

Thanks for making the effort but if its gonna be any trouble just leave it @scrumpymike. Didn't mean for you guys to go totally out of your way. I very much appreciate you are taking it on but please don't feel under any pressure from us. Dave -
This one for me but would prefer without the relic look. My 2nd choice would be the white/white/dots.

I have the cheaper version of the Zoom and usually just leave it in the room somewhere to record the band or even my bass at home. Not sure how to di straight to it. Dave -

Phone recording might work OK. We record our rehearsals on singers phone. Need to keep an eye on your amp volume as if too loud it seems to overload the phone microphone but worth a try Steve. Is recording it at home at lower volumes an option for you guys using your phone ? Don't want to inconvenience you guys in any way ............ but if you're not busy today that would be good. 😂 I''m just kidding of course. If and when you get a chance is fine. 😂👍 Dave -

Some sound clips to let us hear what we're missing would be nice if you get the chance guys. Curious to hear the comparison between the two channels. Dave
