  1. Just checked the shorter cable i have and its actually 0.7m and not 1m. I bought it circa 2010 and have no idea why i asked for that specific length, The 1m version would have been ok after all. What i might do is half one of the cables, buy a couple of nuetriks and solder myself giving 2 x 1m ones plus a 2m as spares. Dave
  2. I went for 2 metres on this one as i found the 1 metre i already have is borderline with certain cab set ups. Did think of 1.5m but like you said 2m wasn't much different. Dave
  3. No probs, i'm just curious but @Killed_by_Death has provided an explanation that makes sense to me. Cheers. 👍 Everyday a school day on Basschat. Its why i keep coming back. Before i joined BC my head was empty............now its full of stuff. 😂 Dave
  4. I've never heard of capacitance in cables being an issue but i'm open to any theoretical explanations to help me understand. Where does the capacitance come in. i.e. across the cores or core to earth ? Dave
  5. That's about it for me too. I just like the build quality.
  6. At the end of the day if its what you want then its the right thing for you. I've heard a similar discussion on Squier P versus Fender P. Most won't hear the difference but some do. If it interprets as a benefit to the individual then its acceptable. I'm not here to judge .......... i was just curious. Dave
  7. That's probably a good point that some people with very refined hearing characteristics can identify small differences but i would question whether its down to cable size or length than the actual materials. In my mind different materials will only create a difference in resistance which i think will be so small it will be negligable unless as mentioned you have a very refined hearing which would be exceptionally rare and probably only someone younger where their hearing hasn't diminshed over the years with age and life in general. Just my own opinions of course and happy to stand corrected. Dave
  8. I know but i was thinking £30 was expensive. They kinda floored me a wee bit. Once i sat up and had a coffee to calm my nerves i was ok. 😂 Appreciate you were offering a suggestion tho just a little too pricey for me. Dave
  9. Is there another thread discussing this ?
  10. I remember mates buying gold plated hi-fi cables in 80's and saying they could hear a difference. I personally was never convinced. Certainly gold plating will resist contact corrosion but that should never be an issue if your gear is kept inside in dry climate. Other than that i don't understand how some cables can give a clearer tone unless you compare a cheap under-sized cable compared to a well designed cable suitable for the current draw on the amp. Maybe someone who knows more might be able to explain in detail. Dave
  11. They start at £75. How do they justify that price. I'll pass on them. Dave
  12. All opinions welcome. If it helps people make a decision you should speak your mind. Dave
  13. Not heard of them. Where did you buy them ? Dave
  14. Cleartone ones ordered 2 off at 2m length. Prices are excellent compared to elsewhere especially when using Van Damme cable with Pro Nuetriks. £13.50 each. Cheers guys. Dave
  15. I used to make all my own cables years ago and being from an Instrument and electronics background soldering and cabling isnt really a problem for me. I'm just lazy these days and prefer to buy them especially when i only need one spare cable. Dave
  16. Having bought all my cables from Bassic-bits in last few years i now need a couple of spare Speakons and was wondering who everyone else is using these days ? I liked the Heavy Duty feel of OBBM cables especially the Speakon to Speakon ones. Any suggestions welcome. Dave

    Band PA

Would have to agree with that. Our female singer actually helps the drummer set up his kit and does a really good job of it. She knows how to set it up on her own. She also helps carry gear in and out venues altho being older guys we tend not to let her attempt the heavy kit but that's an age generation thing. She's a similar age to us. Dave

    Band PA

I'm lucky in main band the singer also does solo work with his own PA around the clubs and has a very good understanding of PA desks. Ceratinly enough to get by. We use a sound engineer when taking large desk and full PA. Dave
  19. Thought i would have more interest on this beaut by now. Dave

    Band PA

If you go for the H/H kit and decide at a later date you need something bigger you can always use the H/H cabs as monitors. Dave

    Band PA

For a lot of bands its a bit of trial and error with a first PA and someone needs to take charge of it. Hopefully one person sets it up and keeps control otherwise too many fingers in the pot just create issues. If new to PA's then perhaps do a bit of youtube research to get started might help. I'm no expert with PA's and no formal training. I've just picked it up over a lot of years and running a PA hire company where mate did the actual desk control and i did the set up and any repairs. That was back in the day of big heavy cabs and power amps. I can find my way around a desk but haven't controlled a full band from FOH before. It takes a fair bit of skill to get it right. Dave

    Band PA

Our drummer owns the PA but he plays in 2 bands plus he had friends in the business to get him a great deal on it. He went for QSC but bought to cover all types of events that he might be playing. All have internal class D 1000W power amps. At very least 12" speakers and a good quality desk. Someone mentioned the Yamaha desk which i like and not horrendously expensive. We looked at Mackie and RCF PA cabs as well but QSC came out tops for what he wanted. If you go for 15 3 ways they will do for slightly bigger venues or when band decides to put bass drum thru PA for a bit more depth in band sound. My other band uses an Alto PA rig that weren't hugely expensive. Think its 15 tops with 15 subs. Think the desk is an Alto 12 channel too. Its ok but not the best quality of sound compared to the QSC in my main band but you get what you pay for i guess. Dave
  23. To be honest i had always passed her by because most of the songs i heard were a bit too folk or jazz sounding. Altho Big Yellow Taxi was a song i've liked since first hearing it so many years ago but had it in my mind it was a one off success. How could i be so wrong. She has a very varied style over the years but her voice has remained the outstanding feature in almost every song. I just prefer the 80's albums as they were a little bit more "modern" or "upbeat". The albums late 90's onwatds i need to have a listen too but from what i have heard she seemed to go a little bit more laid back in her songs but still good. Just not what i'd buy. I think i have the choice of around 4-5 albums within the era i like most. Dave
  24. I'm finding i prefer her 80's work. Bought Wild Things Run Fast and listening to earlier albums i find them a little too laid back or maybe its a more jazz influenced feel to them or folk sounding on the really early albums. I'm looking at Dog Eat Dog album next. It has a similar feel to Wild Things. Some of the other 80's albums i'm liking too. I'm listening to Night Ride Home at moment on youtube to get a feel for it before i'll buy but it sounds good too. Maybe its the production that's changed from 80's but def a different feel on the albums. Its on-going but i'm slowly getting more and more into her music. Dave
  25. Yep Darkness were another band that are hard to pigeon hole. Classic Rock sound and image but they also had a more modern feel to them.
