  1. Afraid i had to google them What do you think of the Mustang bass. Are they short scale basses Dave
  2. On another side how about something a little bit "lighter" than Yes. This is Starcastle a band from the early 70's that obviously copied the Yes sound but had shorter songs and probably a bit more melodic and easier to listen to. That's just my own opinion of course.
  3. You don't need to like everything they've done (or anything for that matter) but at least you've opened your mind to the possibility of enjoying something "new" . If you find something you like and enjoy then you've won a watch, if not then nothing lost. Dave
  4. Looks like i missed a page of this thread. Caught up now i hope. Dave
  5. I must have missed that and i've been following this from the start too. Lets put it down to my age and poor memory. Dave
  6. Back in my younger days i had a better imagination and could get into albums far easier. Nowadays i just like a good tune. I think if i heard DSOTM today for the first time my attitude towards it may be different. Dave
  7. Why not try listening to the Yeggles album Drama and see what you think. Pretty sure we will all disagree on the success of that album but it might be a more mellow introduction to Yes if there is such a thing. I personally quite enjoyed the album. Here's a taster Dave
  8. If this had been closer i might have bought it just for the amp itself. It has a blendable tube pre-amp.........what more do you need. No idea why it didn't sell on the first day. Weird Dave
  9. Lets see the Mustangs. Don't recall any pics. We have a rehearsal booked 18th Oct 12-6pm but not sure if it will go ahead way things are going at moment. Dave
  10. Wish you all the best @martthebass Hopefully you can post some pics or vids for us Glammers. Dave
  11. Most people associate Neil with Whitesnake but i first heard / saw him with Colloseum II on TV mid to late 70's. It was a full live concert of the band. Gary Moore, Jon Hiseman and Don Airey on keys. Great band. Dave
  12. Not so much your loss. Just not to your taste. That's what makes us all different Dave
  13. I first heard Seconds Out by Genesis so i think that influenced my preference to PC Genesis. I heard Close to the Edge first but still prefer Going For the One. With regards Rush my first album was 2112. I enjoyed the implied story behind the songs back in the good old days. One of my fav Rush songs from the early years is By-Tor and the Snow Dog. Amazing sound for a 3 piece band and probably what impressed me most about them. By the time they got to Farewell to Kings they sounded far bigger with introduction of keys and electronic percussion coming along. Happy days . I had a fantastic imagination when i was younger and used to dream up stories behind every album or song. So my theory on what album you heard first might influence your preference to be a load of TOSH. Ah well !!! back to the psychology drawing board. Dave
  14. Oddly enough my preferred era for Genesis was when PC took over up to Duke album. Was never really a fan of Gabriel era back in the day but have since gone back and listened to that era more as i got older. With regards Yes i've never really been a huge fan just snippets in time. I occasionally suffer in Delirium while standing Close to the edge. Makes me very Fragile. Dave
  15. Think the 2 Floyd albums have a different feel so its probably just down to your own personal taste or maybe even something as simple as what album you heard first. For me i heard DSOTM first and it amazed me. Dave
  16. At my age i'd rather be safe than dead. Its a bummer trying to play when your fingers are disintegrating. We are now looking at mid 2021 before things pick up. Of course a vaccine can't be far away now that Donald Trump has been cured. Dave
  17. Its easy to forget that the age group 50-75 lived thru 60-70's music scene. You're talking everything from the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix, to Floyd and Genesis. And don't forget the 70's chart hits by bands like Sweet, T.Rex, Bowie, Alice Cooper, Steve Harley, Slade, Bay City Rollers. You then had punk & funk thrown in. It was a great time to be a teenager. There was such a wide variation of music styles when they were young that it has probably given that age group (i include myself in this) a more open acceptance of most musical styles. Just my own experience of course but i play in a 70's Glam Rock covers band and our audience age varies from 20's thru to 70's (typically 40-60's) but they all get up and dance and enjoy the music Great to hear some bands are starting to gig. Nice one. Dave
  18. I've just never really taken to WYWH for some reason. Prefer Animals which is my 2nd choice. Dave
  19. Hope you are coping ok. Not a good time for you but we are all thinking of you. Dave
  20. As everyone else has mentioned already he was truly an inspiration for so many guitarists. The full VH band at the start in 78 was simply an incredible show to watch. EVH and DLR were both the ultimate showmen. Add to that the incredible Mike Anthony on bass and Alex VH on drums you had a wall of sound to back EVH showmanship. For me the ultimate fun rock band. Dave
  21. I kinda thought that too until i listened to IQ album Road of Bones 2014 which for me was their high point. Not bad for a band that's been around since circa 1980. Genesis peaked at Seconds Out IMO. Rush was Moving Pictures Yes was Going For the One Marillion i just remember the hits Pink Floyd was DSOTM Not to say that these bands all had some excellent albums after they peaked. Dave
