Apologies i just saw your budget circa £50 so that rules out my earlier suggestion of the Beyer Dynamic DT770 Pro. Dave
-
Went thru same last year when my old Sennheiser HD280's started to fall apart with age. Read lots of reviews and finally decided on Beyer Dynamic DT770 PRO. I found them to have a clearer or sharper bottom end without losing the depth of bass. It means i can hear the bass far more clearly than the old Senns which had a little bit more boom (i use that word very lightly as the Senns have been great headphones for many many years but it best describes what i'm talking about.) Overall sound quality is far superior to my old Senns. The DT770 PRO's are far lighter and more comfortable on my head. Headband is tighter but not uncomfortable. I use them mostly with my laptop but occasionally with Hifi separates. One other thing i found was a great bonus was the covering on the earpieces is far nicer on the ear if wearing for long periods. The Senns had "leather" type material whereas the BD's have a softer fabric material With a bit of searching you can get them at a decent price too (currently £109 on Idealo to £135 on Amazon) I went for the 80 ohm version. I bought them from Amazon as they have a better return if i don't like them or something not quite right with them. To be fair i can't fault them Dave

Didn't like to bother him on FB but i thought i would give it a shot. Dave

This was on another topic but i just couldn't find it. This was the bass i queried before. Any idea what it is or is it a hybrid bass put together at Neil's request. I know he had a P bass with a MM fitted between P pick up and bridge but this looks like 2 humbucker style pick ups with either an early P neck or a Tele neck.

That's definitely a bit of an epic. Some amazingly nice bass lines in there. Used to really enjoy playing along with this kind of jazz fusion music in late 70's / early 80's. Thanks for sharing Rob. Dave

You talking to me ?

For me i follow this procedure almost every time. 1. Listen to the song and get to know it first. 2. play along with the song to get a feel for the bass part. 3. i use anything i can find on line from full music sheet to bass tabs to basic song chords. 4. Break the song into sections ie Intro, verse, chorus, mid sections, and ending (end might change with your band as most endings fade) 5. Write out the bass part in whatever manner suits you. I'll write the song out in individual bars with every note and spacing as i think it should be. At this stage its just scribbled notes. You can write it out as very simple notes. whatever suits you best. 6. Learn the song from your notes while playing along with the song. 7. Once i've learned the song and can play it with ease i take my scribbled notes and write them out properly on an A4 paper trying to keep it to one page if possible. This allows me to tidy things up for rehearsals and i can read easily if required. (see a pic of my notes below) Doing it this way means i learn the song by playing along with it and i also remember what i've written out on the A4. It seems to work for me plus i always have the music written out and filed for any future bands. Dave

For me Learning to Fly was interesting to hear only because of Guys fills thru the song live. He does seem to manage amazing little ad-lib fills when playing live. Dave

We discussed it and decided not to play GG songs in the set. Shame as he had some great Glam songs but not sure how they would go down at a gig. Personally i don't have an issue playing them as he was an integral part of that era but disgusted with what he did and there's no getting away from that. I have toyed with the idea of learning one and before we play it ask the audience if they have any issues. If not we do it and if anyone objects we dont. If we get more of a positive feedback on it i'd be ok playing it. We do Glitter Band songs tho. Dave

We go on to this but we are a 70's Glam Rock covers band and drummer played with the Glitter Band in 90's

That's quite unusual but also very very nice indeed. Dave

Now i'm sitting on the edge of my chair in a combination of curiosity and expectation. Can't wait to see what this one is. Dave

Thanks for that @Bilbo its one of my all time fav albums that i was very influenced by. I'm now able to check whether or not i was playing it properly. Dave

Music for pleasure vs for music viz learning

Normally the 2 are separate for me. Most bands i play in i don't usually listen to the songs except to learn them. Once i start learning the songs i tend to get more interested in the bands other work. There are some bands i just like to get a feel for how the bassist thinks and plays to help me replicate his style live. In a nutshell the band i'm in at any one time will influence what i listen to for a bit. On the other hand my own personal choice is so varied with a lean towards Prog. Dave -
well spotted

I better self isolate

My worry is that it spreads and i end up with more of those dots. Could this be a 2nd wave of the dot epidemic Dave

I'm a dot man myself. Its unique as far as i know. Dave
