  1. You're a full time pro by sounds of it and your taxes are keeping the rest of us going. I'm retired on a good works pension after 40 yrs service so i'm doing ok thru this. For me its sods law that the first band i've ever been in where all the members are top notch nice people and we all get along really well. We had put a lot of work into rehearsing the set list to a good level, did a few trial gigs with excellent feedback and this was going to be our first year of loading up the gigs which were coming in really well until Covid knocked it all for 6. Its the fact that i was looking forward to a great year of gigs with a great wee band. Its more disappointing from that respect. Financially it didn't really matter to me but the income from the gigs was a nice bonus for a few hrs work. Dave
  2. The company he worked for originally was taking more than half the fees. The company he works for now is far better. As far as i know the lessons are paid by card when booked by phone or online booking. Don't think much cash changes hands these days but i'm not 100% sure. Take your point and many companies might still be taking cash in hand. Dave
  3. I don't know many guys these days that do it full time like yourself Blue. I have one mate who is a driving instructor mid week but weekends he boosts his income with couple of gigs on Fri / Sat / Sun. He was furloughed and because its based on tax for past 3 years his previous driving school was taking so much back in costs for the car etc his tax was minimal so he ended up with £188 / month to live on. Luckily his wife is working from home to support him. He's a kept man. Dave
  4. excellent news Rob. I'd be one of them. Dave
  5. Great band. Loved Made In Heaven. Not sure timeline but was that bassist from Cockney Rebel that died in Lockerbie disaster. Think it was Paul Jeffreys ? Dave
  6. One of my favs to play by Deep Purple is Stormbringer. Great bass line. Lot of satisfaction playing Rainbow Starstruck and Rising. Dave
  7. The bands will all sound terrible then
  8. That was nice Rob. Not my usual kind of music but was pleasantly surprised. Dave
  9. Eventually you'll progress from learner status. Takes years of practice tho.
  10. Great song. Its our opening song in 70's Glam Rock covers band. Dave
  11. Doesn't have to be every day. Exercise one day for half hour to an hour and a little bass next day, something else the next day or even every 2nd day depending on your wife's commitments. Rhythm stick is a great song to focus the mind. Hardest part for me was finger stamina. Could play each part separately but when joined up it was hard (aching on the fingers) Trying to remember what came next I did a section each day. Intro riff one day and practised that for few days then moved onto verse and so on. Norman has a certain feel and the notes occasionally lag a little when he plays it. Its very slight and wasn't in the bass tab i found. Definitely a great song to learn on so many levels. Good luck with it. Dave
  12. Unusual choice of language to pick. All credit to her for that during parenthood. Dave
  13. Minor note @Bilbo. The photo you used is Richard Sinclair and description is Doug Ferguson for Lunar Sea from Moonmadness. Had a relisten on youtube VID for A Live Record version and Pete Bardens is playing a bass run on keys with left hand while Richard Sinclair playing over the top. How the heck i managed i have no idea I've always played both parts when trying to play that bass part. I didn't realise until now it was 2 separate parts. Great to see the bass part written out fro me now and i think i've been doing a very close version of the actual bass part (with frills ) Thanks again Dave
  14. I'm no expert and i'm kinda with you on this when i read thru the guidelines again last night. Bit that confuses me is that cinema's and other similar buildings can re-open which obviously have many people in the one hall. Some of the guidelines appear to contradict themselves making it unclear what's allowed but more important what's safe. The positive factor up here is that our new cases are in single figures and deaths are down to zero for several days i believe so the risks in Scotland are greatly reduced. Dave
  15. That was quick. One of my fav albums. Preferred that era Camel. Bass playing is very under-stated and he sings. .Looking forward to seeing this one. Dave
  16. Good point. Not sure how they are getting around that. The 2m rule is fine plus hey have all the sanitising kit etc but that 2 household thing at any one time still stands. Dave
  17. Centre stage for the bass player. I'm impressed @Bluewine .
  18. Our rehearsal studios officially opened yesterday. They have 14 rooms and have put in a one way system ie in thru main entrance to your studio room and leave by the rear side door. All payments made on-line before arrival. Each studio will be sanitised after each band. Bring your own mics or you can purchase foam covers for mics at front office. There are wipes and sprays in each studio to sanitise the equipment you use when finished. Very well known Glasgow studios We're booked in for 26th July 12-6pm. Dave
  19. Put another suggestion in thru the website @Bilbo See what you think. Dave
  20. I can't remember what the song was now Rob. Sorry but if it comes back to me i'll pass it on. Dave
  21. Nice one @NJE Good starting point for your set list. Hadn't heard Birdwatcher and Speedwalker before so had a quick listen before replying. They'll keep you busy for a bit and once completed think of the satisfaction you'll get. I did Rhythm stick during lockdown period altho most of its gone now apart from start riff. Rest i've already forgotten. Probably because i wasn't playing within a band context. Well done sir. Dave
  22. Aahhh but a spoon can be a musical instrument. That's the difference
