  1. That's what i had been doing. Maybe 2-3 gigs of 2-2.5hrs or 1-2 6hr rehearsals and i'd pop them on charger when i got home. Dave
  2. As far as i know they were. Think it was Amazon and i have been caught out with Amazon before where items haven't been legit. Where did you buy yours I brought them home and recharged them again and wife used them for Xmas lights around the house but again they lasted maybe a half day and done. Small set of LED lights. I just remembered my cordless phone has the original first set i bought and they've been in over a year now so maybe the 2nd batch i bought were duffers or non originals. Dave
  3. Altho i'm a big fan of Guy i'm having the added bonus of hearing bands and albums i'd never heard before. What's not to like about Guy Pratt. Great Bass player, likeable personality and funny too. Dave
  4. I bought a set of the Eneloops batteries after recommendation on BC and all 4 have failed on me with the Smooth Hound. One set during a gig went from full charge before leaving home to zero in about 3 songs during sound check. Replaced with standard Duracells now which will last me about 3 gigs before needing changed (approx 12hrs or there abouts) The set came with 4 AAA & 4 AA batteries. Oddly enough the AA's are still working fine. Dave
  5. I put new batteries in when i arrived yesterday and they were showing full bars. Anytime i've had low batteries it just died on me eventually but i was down to the lowest indicator. Didn't notice any other issue with it. At gigs i normally plug it into the rack mounted 6-way mains and its fine. I'm going to do some more checks on it on Tues when i'm back in studio and see what more i can find. Once i've experimented a bit to nail it down i'll contact Chris at Smooth Hound. Failing that i may look for a different wireless system. One thing that was blatantly obvious when i changed over to a lead again was the depth of tone that appeared. Sound seemed fuller. I need to check the setting on the wireless as i know you have a setting to make it sound more like a cable. Dave
  6. Cheers Vinny good to know its a more common issue than just mine. (that didn't come out the way i meant it ) Dave
  7. Was using my wireless today and it developed a loud buzzing like an earth loop issue. Heard a couple of "popping" noises too. Unplugged and used a lead to ensure it wasn't my amp and all was fine. Played a few songs with the lead and no issues plus i did notice my tone was fuller with the lead. Moved the wireless receiver off the top of my amp and used a different socket instead of the amp case rack mounted one and the fault seemed to disappear. The amp is set up in our bands studio so there are other items plugged into 4-bar sockets etc. Should i be worried that its developing a problem. Anyone else experienced this with the Smooth Hound units. I've gigged this unit with the receiver sitting on my amp and plugged into the rack mounted sockets and all was OK. Its got me baffled a bit. If anyone can shed some light on it i would be grateful. Dave
  8. The box was damaged where the CD clips in but i always have spare cases so swapped it over. CD itself was fine tho. I def prefer the first album. It has more character but Storyville is still a great album. Not had a lot of listening just the occasional song when in kitchen cooking something. Been learning our band set list for up and coming band rehearsals Dave
  9. Storyville by Robbie Robertson arrived today so listening to some of that. His 1st album arrived on Sat so its a week of Robbie Robertson for me. Dave
  10. Not really got that many to be honest. In 80's i just joined a great 3 piece rock band and we played a large gig with no stage. We set up on dance floor with monitors separating us from dancers. Singer / guitarist was quite full of himself but when we played the first song all the females ran on to dance floor ............right in front of me. None in front of him. It was so blatant and so funny i had a right giggle. He was furious. Worst moment in same band was doing a well known Rock venue in Glasgow and we did Crossroads by Cream but unknown to me the singer and drummer decided to stop and let me do a bass solo on the spot in front of a very busy venue. I was mortified as had never rehearsed one not even in my head. They were there just laughing as he announced "the talents of our new bass player" I did it and was complimented at the end by a few of the crowd including a couple of girls. Pity my girlfriend was with me that night. I did a charity event in 80's when i had my WAL bass. The singer / bassist (backing vocalist with Hue & Cry at the time who was a mate) asked if he could use my WAL. He did a cover of Michael Jackson that was pretty good. At the end he handed me the bass back and said it kept going out of tune. I then pointed out it was a lined fretless. He was playing in between the lines. He did feel a bit daft for not picking up on it. He was a very competent guitarist too. I was once asked to do a song with a band i didn't know. They were having an impromptu jam session where they would bring one member of audience up to take over whatever instrument for a song. My mates put me forward for Alright Now. Had never learned the song before so was playing it from memory. It was great fun and went down really well. The bit that really stood out was that i managed to do the correct bass riff from the mid section. Dave
  11. Yep that's the version i'd probably go for. Dave
  12. I like them on sunburst P basses with Rosewood necks but then again i'm retired and drive a Volvo too. Has that cat been in the litter tray...............naw its me Dave
  13. Obviously gonna be a very subjective topic. when you say boring do you mean looks, sound or just generally everything about them. Some basses i find boring to look at but they sound good enough. Ibanez basses in particular i find boring to look at but having owned a couple over the years they are well made and good to play basses with a variety of usable tones. I find this general shape of bass boring to look at. I find humbucker style pick ups have a boring tone and lack the warmth of P or J pick ups. Its all down to personal taste tho
  14. I really like that even tho i'm generally not a fan of aged basses. That just looks very nice. Well done finding that one. Dave
  15. Maybe the larger shops have a blanket insurance covering damage in shop or during postage for a sale. Dave
  16. That's rather nice. If you keep using that configurator site you'll go blind. Dave
  17. That's why i checked with fellow BC'ers as to who was reckoned best to use both for ease of use and cost and if any issues how they were dealt with and whether or not the item was actually insured for the full value. Some companies take your insurance money and then fire you the small print that says no musical instruments or electronic goods and don't pay out. P4D came out best for everything and i've had no issues using them. They are a middle man and use different couriers but they do the insurance themselves and you would claim P4D rather than the courier. I have to say i don't post many items tho. I'm still paranoid and would rather drive couple hundred miles and meet up if its possible. Dave
  18. I'm on the fence with that one. Did look at it for my 70's Glam Rock band but mmmmmmm not too sure . Dave
  19. Definitely agree. Amazing bass tone but his voice has something about it.
  20. I was recommended P4D by people on BC who insure the amount you select. Some don't cover musical instruments or electronic equipment, some up to value of £100. For a bass at less than £200 it won't cost that much but you should advertise that postage incl insurance is extra unless you want to cover that cost. I would always insure a bass or an amp. Dave
  21. wouldn't be me mate. she's nothing but a chancer. I guess it gives you peace of mind more than anything else. Dave
  22. That's smashing. I could go for that if i was in the market for a Jazz bass. Dave
  23. That's very very nice. Would probably go passive only but liking that a lot Dave
  24. I enjoy the the smaller gigs with just vocal PA. When we play bigger venues i'm nominated van hirer and driver so i have the drummer to pick up and drop off. He has the PA systems and lighting rigs. It becomes a very long day. I need to drive 25miles to pick up a van, get home for bite to eat and then pack my own gear, go to drummers and the 2 off us pack his drums, PA and lights then off to the gig. Others drive themselves. Reverse of all that on way home with me getting to my house around 3am when i need to unload my own gear. Usually having a coffee before going to bed for a few hrs then back up early morning to take van back before its due time. I don't miss that type of gig. Band have said to now hire the van an extra day to let me get a decent sleep but i grudge paying for a van to sit in my drive for a day doing nothing. Best gigs we've had were the 1 hr support slots. Turn up with my bass, plug into main bands amp, do the show and go home again usually home by 11-12pm. That's a great wee night and a decent wee payment for no real work. Dave
