Not sure this has been asked but will go for it anyway. Within a band set up do you follow the drummer or do you lead the drummer. In most cover bands i've been in, i tend to lead more than follow the drummer. I think its because i put a lot into learning my part that i am very confident when playing. I take my timing from the drummer at the start and just go for it. In originals bands it seems to be the other way around and i love following a good drummer. Again its maybe down to how i develop and learn an original bass part. Think a lot depends on the how good or confident the drummer is. Dave

Your guitarist is a better bass player than you!

Can't say i've ever really come across a guitarist that was a better bass player than me. I did know one guitarist that showed me how to play slap bass but that was all he was good at. That was back in my early days. Current guitarist did play bass in an Ozzy tribute band but he freely admits he's not a bassist. He did a great job with them tho. Current drummer has stated i'm one of the best bass players he's ever played with and he's done a lot of serious touring including arena gigs. That was probably my best compliment over the years. Used Bass Direct few times and was impressed enough to drive to the shop from Glasgow area and wasn't disappointed. I've never been disappointed in any way. Dave

Cheers @Bilbo always loved that bassline. That little run down from the D to A he does every now and again was always the hook for me. Great album often forgotten by many Camel fans. The production on it was first class. Dave

Not heard that in a lot of years Rob. Nice one. Dave

If its 2023 i think many musicians will lose interest in their bands as they find alternative hobbies or pastimes. More than likely i could be one of them. I'm already falling into the "cant be bothered practicing the set lists. Dave

I still have my old separates still in use today. Sony record deck - 1976 Nad 3220 power amp - 1980 ish Sony CD player - 1980 ISH Phillips CD Recorder twin deck CD - 2000 ish Mission speakers Bose speakers Speakers run in parallel. Still have all mine and my wife's vinyl and CD's. I very rarely stream or download albums. Only occasional songs i need to learn for bands i'm in. I prefer to buy CD's and have been slowly buying copies of my old vinyl albums. Dave -

Yep i was the same. Forgot how much i enjoyed them. Did buy the last CD that Gary wrote but album was never released until after he passed away. Pretty good album too. More modern sounding than the 70's ones. Fantastic band tho. Wish i had seen them in 70's Dave -

@Jus Lukin quite a story right enough. Seems like you are on the right track now tho and things hopefully can only get better. Sounded like your worst nightmare at the start. Dave

We've just booked a rehearsal in our usual Glasgow studios for 18th Oct. 12-6pm. We checked that it was all legal for us to be there before booking. If things change for the worst we'll cancel again. We've been lucky that we managed to get quite a few rehearsals in over last few months when things got relaxed a bit. Can't see any gigs before March 2021 with way things are going. Unless we get a vaccine soon but that's all went a bit quiet recently. Dave

Sounds like you've made your mind up. As i said my Jazz has the slim width and slim depth neck so its a little bit less wood there than the standard Jazz. Def try before buying as mates Jazz feels a good bit more depth than mine. Mine is the Carfted in Japan Geddy Jazz. Mate has the MIM version. I also have the MIM PJ active with Jazz neck but its not as slim as my Ged Jazz so might be worthwhile checking out the Slim Jazz neck. Not sure what other basses its used on other than Geddy Jazz basses. Sure some of the Fender officianado's will give you more guidance. I agree the active Fenders for me lack that classic mellow bass tone. Good luck with whatever you go for. Dave
