Did that a couple of times for days out and of course slept in the station waiting for first train in morning. Of course i've done the same in Glasgow before the late night buses were running. Old Buchanan St bus station waiting for the first bus to Motherwell at 5am, then fell asleep on the bus woke up at Lanark, got off the bus walked across the road and got the same bus back to Motherwell. Driver just laughed but they didn't charge me for the return to Motherwell. Must have felt sorry for the poor lad Those were the days when partying was more important than getting home. Dave

Edinburgh was always too difficult to get to from Motherwell and Wishaw area so Glasgow was a simple one train trip. Getting to Edinburgh back then meant train to Glasgow and change for an hr trip to Edinburgh and you had to change stations in Glasgow from Central to Queen Street. Ended up up the total trip could be 2 hrs depending on train times. That and fact getting home from Edinburgh at night meant you had to get train at Edinburgh around 9pm to make sure you got last train from Glasgow. I didn't have a car in them far gone days. And now that i have a car i can't get parked in Edinburgh. They just don't make it easy to get too for shoppers of heavy bass equipment Dave

Once things get back to near normal the passion will come back. Once a bassist, always a bassist.........at heart anyway. Dave

Probably relieved at first but hopefully sadness as time goes by that things didn't develop the way you hoped. That's my usual response to bands that i leave. Hope you do get back into a decent gigging band again. This is the first band i've been in where money we make for each gig covers far more than my expenses but we haven't gigged a lot because of lockdown. We were just starting to get the gigs coming in thru word of mouth mostly. Various clubs and band venues had been in touch with us. Ah well back to square one again Dave

Coincidence but I just looked at that page. Should have done that before asking the question i guess. Thanks for posting so hopefully anyone else like me will be able to check it out. I use one of my wife's hair thingy's on my 6 er fretless. Wasn't aware Gruv Gear had these. Dave

Call me stupid...............and you probably will, but what are fret wraps ? Edited to add - googled but always just called them mufflers. You are never too old to learn. BC is a an everyday learning exercise. 👍 Dave

Pretty sure Police would be interested in knowing Cash Generators sold it and will be able to get the buyers contact details. Dave EDIT to say i see its all in hand after reading the full thread. Well done and nice to hear a good ending.

I'd be happy to buy them @ped just for the sake of having BC gear. Dave

I tried an Orange Terror thru 2off obc12 cabs in Guitar Guitar and they were solid and lovely sounding little cabs. I thought they looked well made as i had a good look at them. I was originally in trying Fender P basses but was more interested in the bass rig. Did consider buying it but went with 2nd hand Mesa rig. I also went for 2x12 Mesa cab but its the full weight version. That was mainly because i always think the 210's just don't have that oomph for rock music. (Yes i know its all subjective and down to personal taste and many will argue that but its just my own opinion having used a combination of 10's, 12's and 15's over 40+ yrs.) The 212 cabs for me are a good balance between 10's and 15's. I have a Berg cab with a 12 & 2x10's and that is lovely sounding cab but so heavy. Use it for larger venues where i need the full amp output. I have a mate uses the TC RS212 cabs and he has a really nice tone using anything from a Ric, P, or thunderbird basses. They all sound really nice and powerful in his rock covers band. He does tend to use 2 off 212 cabs tho. Dave

You're a full time pro by sounds of it and your taxes are keeping the rest of us going. I'm retired on a good works pension after 40 yrs service so i'm doing ok thru this. For me its sods law that the first band i've ever been in where all the members are top notch nice people and we all get along really well. We had put a lot of work into rehearsing the set list to a good level, did a few trial gigs with excellent feedback and this was going to be our first year of loading up the gigs which were coming in really well until Covid knocked it all for 6. Its the fact that i was looking forward to a great year of gigs with a great wee band. Its more disappointing from that respect. Financially it didn't really matter to me but the income from the gigs was a nice bonus for a few hrs work. Dave

The company he worked for originally was taking more than half the fees. The company he works for now is far better. As far as i know the lessons are paid by card when booked by phone or online booking. Don't think much cash changes hands these days but i'm not 100% sure. Take your point and many companies might still be taking cash in hand. Dave

I don't know many guys these days that do it full time like yourself Blue. I have one mate who is a driving instructor mid week but weekends he boosts his income with couple of gigs on Fri / Sat / Sun. He was furloughed and because its based on tax for past 3 years his previous driving school was taking so much back in costs for the car etc his tax was minimal so he ended up with £188 / month to live on. Luckily his wife is working from home to support him. He's a kept man. Dave

excellent news Rob. I'd be one of them. Dave

What are you listening to right now?

Great band. Loved Made In Heaven. Not sure timeline but was that bassist from Cockney Rebel that died in Lockerbie disaster. Think it was Paul Jeffreys ? Dave -
One of my favs to play by Deep Purple is Stormbringer. Great bass line. Lot of satisfaction playing Rainbow Starstruck and Rising. Dave

The bands will all sound terrible then

That was nice Rob. Not my usual kind of music but was pleasantly surprised. Dave

Eventually you'll progress from learner status. Takes years of practice tho.

Great song. Its our opening song in 70's Glam Rock covers band. Dave

Doesn't have to be every day. Exercise one day for half hour to an hour and a little bass next day, something else the next day or even every 2nd day depending on your wife's commitments. Rhythm stick is a great song to focus the mind. Hardest part for me was finger stamina. Could play each part separately but when joined up it was hard (aching on the fingers) Trying to remember what came next I did a section each day. Intro riff one day and practised that for few days then moved onto verse and so on. Norman has a certain feel and the notes occasionally lag a little when he plays it. Its very slight and wasn't in the bass tab i found. Definitely a great song to learn on so many levels. Good luck with it. Dave

Unusual choice of language to pick. All credit to her for that during parenthood. Dave

Minor note @Bilbo. The photo you used is Richard Sinclair and description is Doug Ferguson for Lunar Sea from Moonmadness. Had a relisten on youtube VID for A Live Record version and Pete Bardens is playing a bass run on keys with left hand while Richard Sinclair playing over the top. How the heck i managed i have no idea I've always played both parts when trying to play that bass part. I didn't realise until now it was 2 separate parts. Great to see the bass part written out fro me now and i think i've been doing a very close version of the actual bass part (with frills ) Thanks again Dave

I'm no expert and i'm kinda with you on this when i read thru the guidelines again last night. Bit that confuses me is that cinema's and other similar buildings can re-open which obviously have many people in the one hall. Some of the guidelines appear to contradict themselves making it unclear what's allowed but more important what's safe. The positive factor up here is that our new cases are in single figures and deaths are down to zero for several days i believe so the risks in Scotland are greatly reduced. Dave

That was quick. One of my fav albums. Preferred that era Camel. Bass playing is very under-stated and he sings. .Looking forward to seeing this one. Dave
