Minor note @Bilbo. The photo you used is Richard Sinclair and description is Doug Ferguson for Lunar Sea from Moonmadness. Had a relisten on youtube VID for A Live Record version and Pete Bardens is playing a bass run on keys with left hand while Richard Sinclair playing over the top. How the heck i managed i have no idea I've always played both parts when trying to play that bass part. I didn't realise until now it was 2 separate parts. Great to see the bass part written out fro me now and i think i've been doing a very close version of the actual bass part (with frills ) Thanks again Dave

I'm no expert and i'm kinda with you on this when i read thru the guidelines again last night. Bit that confuses me is that cinema's and other similar buildings can re-open which obviously have many people in the one hall. Some of the guidelines appear to contradict themselves making it unclear what's allowed but more important what's safe. The positive factor up here is that our new cases are in single figures and deaths are down to zero for several days i believe so the risks in Scotland are greatly reduced. Dave

Good point. Not sure how they are getting around that. The 2m rule is fine plus hey have all the sanitising kit etc but that 2 household thing at any one time still stands. Dave

Our rehearsal studios officially opened yesterday. They have 14 rooms and have put in a one way system ie in thru main entrance to your studio room and leave by the rear side door. All payments made on-line before arrival. Each studio will be sanitised after each band. Bring your own mics or you can purchase foam covers for mics at front office. There are wipes and sprays in each studio to sanitise the equipment you use when finished. Very well known Glasgow studios We're booked in for 26th July 12-6pm. Dave

Nice one @NJE Good starting point for your set list. Hadn't heard Birdwatcher and Speedwalker before so had a quick listen before replying. They'll keep you busy for a bit and once completed think of the satisfaction you'll get. I did Rhythm stick during lockdown period altho most of its gone now apart from start riff. Rest i've already forgotten. Probably because i wasn't playing within a band context. Well done sir. Dave

That's kinda where i went years ago from 4 to 6 and then back to 5 because i needed a low B string but less weight than my Overwater. And now back to 4's again. The trend tends to follow the bands i play in at the time. I still quite fancy a fretted 6er for those high end chords i like fooling around with. Dave

All this talk of 5 & 6 stringers put me right in the mood for playing my Overwater custom fretless 6er. Its an odd thing but the string balance always sounds better and more balanced tonally thru a modern style of amp like my EBS Reidmar 750 compared to my Mesa Mpulse. The upper strings appear to sing better. Clearer. Have to say i thoroughly enjoyed my wee spell with it. I need to play it more often to get the benefit of fretless again. Dave

Just ordered that album. I have a couple of her other studio albums. I bought I Am The Phoenix in 1981 when it came out and few yrs back i bought Moon on a Mirrorball Best of album. Wish i had seen her live back in 80's. Dave

We've just booked our first studio rehearsal in Glasgow for 26th July. We have a gig beginning of October but still have no idea whether it will go ahead. If it does i just wonder how many people will actually turn up or buy tickets. Dave

All of my fav live albums have already been mentioned. Special spot for Judie Tzuke tho. I had no idea that was the same bassist with Quo. Not sure why i never knew that. She has such a wonderful voice. I need to buy that live album now. Dave

I love an open E string so best i stick with 4's. Dave

It offers an insight into your character, how you behave, react and treat others. The person behind the bass. It allows others to judge you and your bass playing technique, your style, your levels of aggression, your depth of tone, your use of phrasing and of course how you stand on stage. And of course i am talking TOSH. As long as the bass player is competent and doing a good job. That's really all i'm interested in from any musician. 👍

I prefer playing 4 stringers but i have fav players that use 4, 5 and 6. Many situations where that low B string helps the feel of a song and gives it a bit more depth. On the other hand i enjoy listening to some guys using a high C string on a 6er when playing chords. I wouldn't say there's been a commensurate jump in music but more a development.. Dave
