Who influenced you to pick up and start playing Bass.
dmccombe7 replied to thebigyin's topic in General Discussion
So long ago i can't remember any one particular bass player but i had just bought Kiss Destroyer, Thin Lizzy Jailbreak and Alice Cooper Killer albums so i reckon it must have been them or maybe Deep Purple with Glenn Hughes. Dave -
Its great fun and always a good laugh during gigs. Our singer gets very involved with an audience. Dave

Here's me in my 70's Glam Rock covers band so excuse the stage gear as its all part of the show.

Yep i have the VM4 but that colour combination with white pup covers is quite eye catching. Dave

Lead Singers who play Bass!

For me its the obvious Geddy Lee, Jack Bruce, Phil Lynott, John Wetton and even the occasional Gene Simmons altho not really the lead singer he did lead vocals on some songs.- 141 replies

where's that ? nearest city would give me a rough idea. I'm just kidding. its in Wales isnt it Sorry couldn't resist that one. Its really not that far from me off the A69. I always wondered what that large town was till i googled it earlier. Travelled that road so many times. Cheers and thanks again Dave

Appreciated @walshy where is Hexham ? Is that South of the border. Problem is trying to get one altho there were 2 sold on here in past few months by looks of it. Dave

I saw his review on the amps and was very impressed plus not overly expensive either. Maybe i should look at them. Dave
-
You said WB100 is that the Mesa head or is that the Handbox head ?
-
You have a WD100 ? What's it like. They are still pretty rare beasts over here Dave

I could play prop forward for Scotland and it still won't help the doomed.

Oddly enough i can't get to grips with the AG500 in rehearsal studios. Can't fault it really but i'm always tweaking it. The studio also use EBS HD360 or 370 amps which i'm really enjoying. All thru Ampeg 810 cabs. I generally start with everything flat and adjust as required. I have the Reidmar 750 which is unbelievably loud for a class D and probably the only Class D i've liked. Its a back up amp for my Mesa. Dave

I had the MB 121 Combo with ext cab and it was loud enough for a 70's covers band. I def wouldn't say it wasn't loud enough but i always had the feeling that it lacked something. That something would be "heft" Dave

I had the old Mk4 Peavey head in 80's and wish i'd kept it. 2 channels with graphic EQ section. Loved the sound i was getting thru a custom 15" & 12" cab later thru a 15" cab and 210 on top. However the old GAS got the better of me. Like many others i've tried the lightweight gear and gone back to my Mesa Mpulse and PH212 cab. I love the tone. Dave

Was at the Barrowland gig for them. When Plant came on i went into Lounge area which was empty and had a great blether with Francis Dunnery who came over to us to see why we weren't in watching Plant. I was happy to say i was only there for It Bites. Francis is an absolute gem of a guy and very down to earth. Would love to book him for a house party but not sure my house could take 50 people.

I wrote a book about being in a covers band
dmccombe7 replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
I've only got space for your books Dave so get a move on mate before i put something else in there. -
Big Country supporting David Bowie on Glass Spider tour at Sunderland 87 Was never a big fan of them until i saw them. Amazing energetic band that stole the day for me. Huge surprise. Dave
