  1. At times on the busy end of the bass it sounds quite like his Ric but at the dusty end it goes very much rounded and warmer sounding compared to his Ric. Problem is i believe he has a sound guy that at times switches his effects and amps in and out for him so you never know whether or not its a clean bass you are hearing thru a driven tube amp or its an effect that's been added. Only way to know for sure is if Chris sat down with different basses and played the same parts without touching anything else. Personally i think his Ric sound always has more of an edge than any other bass i've heard him play. I even watched Geddy using his Jazz bass with Yes in 2017 and although its a good replication of Chris's tone it still has that warmer rounded tone that comes across every now and again. Don't think there's a lot in it but its different if you want to have that absolutely perfect CS sound Dave
  2. I've used a compressor of varying types on my bass rig for as long as i can remember whether its built into the amp head or on a pedal. Depends on who's sound i'm trying to replicate at the time. Generally tho its barely on and acts more lie a limiter than anything else. I've no idea what famous bass players have been using and just assumed majority of them used it somewhere along the way. Dave
  3. Nothing new at moment. Last songs i learned were couple Glam Xmas covers. Let It Snow by Sweet and Merry Xmas Everbody by Slade. Having a relaxing break from learning songs but back at rehearsals on Sun this week so need to just run thru the set list again. I have a notion for doing Rhythm Stick tho. My New Years resolution. Dave
  4. Its the Low Tension ones i have. Is that the ones you mean are a bit stiff. ?
  5. Cheers @krispn always handy getting little tips from others on flats. I got my La Bellas for not much more than i was paying for my D'addario nickels to be honest. The TI's i've seen advertised for around £36-£40 which aint bad for strings that will last a year or more. Dave
  6. Is the tone across the strings quite even tho ?
  7. I hear good things about them from fellow BC'ers so think i might give them a go on my Jazz bass see how they sound. Dave
  8. Just looked at the TI flats but they gauge seems odd 43, 56, 70, 100. Seems quite a step from the A to E strings gauges. Does that not sound like the E string has more boom than the other strings ? I expect a more even balance across the string widths. I'm currently using La Bella Low Tension 40-100 but this is my first set of flats in 30+ yrs. Dave
  9. Would def agree there. I went from D'addarios to Fender and found them smoother. Then tried Sandberg stainless with my Sandberg and found them smoother again and cheaper than the nickels. I guess its a bit of trial and error. Dave
  10. I'm more used to country living these days and our local pub let the band play into early hrs of New Years Day and has done for many years. They even had a visit from local Police unit who came in asked if everything was OK and off they went. Not sure the pubs in bigger towns and cities would get away with that as i know Glasgow are very strict on it all thru the year. Shame when everyone is having a great time at NYE and if the band is up for it. I guess the Landlord should have applied and paid for the extended licence but was probably trying to save a few quid i bet. Dave Dave
  11. Do they not turn a blind eye at NYE tho ?
  12. I tend to agree to a certain extent but when someone asks you what kind of music you prefer how do you respond to that. Altho you like or dislike music it doesn't describe your preferred styles assuming you have one or two ? I think that's why most people tend to categorise music to allow them to describe it in more detail. Dave
  13. All the very best for 2020 everyone. Hope its a great year for you all. Dave
  14. I run thru my checklist and make sure everything i need is packed. I'm the designated driver so i need to go pick up the van hire then the drummers for PA and Lighting plus drums of course so i very rarely have time to do much else apart from shower and eat before i leave in early afternoon. 15. That sounds really sweet and some very nice playing. Bass sounds clear and sharp with a nice warm tone on the lower notes Thanks for sharing. Dave NB : i was using a good set of headphones and it sounded good.
  16. 22Kg aint horrendous to be honest. Dave
  17. That's handy having the individual footswitch sockets. The Mpulse 600 only has the DIN plug plus Tuner Out and Mute. Crackin big amp but bet its heavy. Dave
  18. Curious to know how that all sounds live. Post a VID clip or sound clip if you can.
