No expert in this by any means but i've played songs in different keys from original and something just doesn't work. The song loses something. I've never quite understood why that happens. Dave

Played that in Hot Love 70's tribute band few yrs back. I'd never heard it before then. Dave

Think Neil commented on BC before about it and don't quote me but i'm sure he said he tried to maintain the original album version but he ad-libbed a lot of the fills. Dave

That was the style back then and they were just keeping up with the fashion of the day. Maybe because i'm a Rush fan i'm separating older fashion and styles from just silly looking VID clips from over the years. I just remember when they came out and really liking them Some of the clips of other bands posted on the thread have been quite laughable. Dave

Same for me with Seconds Out. Managed to get the music book for the album signed by the full band incl manager and some wives too.

I was annoyed especially when the later version was in a different key and lacked the thing that made the song famous in Neil's bass line. It was the one song i was really looking forward to playing. I think the guitarist struggled with the original as it had a cleaner guitar sound than the metal version. As a band we did struggle with Whitesnake songs from that era. It wasn't that we couldn't play the right notes but the band back then had a specific feel to it. It wasn't just a David Coverdale metal band. We just couldn't capture that bluesy rock feel for some reason and therefore couldn't pull off a decent reproduction of the songs. Neil's bass lines were by far the better ones to play. Dave

Trick of the Tail to Duke was my fav era and Duke was probably the last album i fully enjoyed from Genesis. Met them on the Duke tour at Edinburgh and Glasgow gigs. I was a big fan back then. Seconds Out being one of my fav albums. Dave

I'll have another look but i used to have the music sheet / tab for the original back in 2012. Couldn't find it last time i looked but worth a try in the morning again. If i find it i'll scan and post. Its what i used to learn the original part. Took me a little while to get the ad-lib bits but it was worth it. Then the Deep Purple & friends tribute decided they wanted to do the later version in A. I was furious after spending so much time on it. Later version was pretty much a skoosh Dave

Even Neil admits it was ad-lib on many occasions altho i think he tried to emulate the original as much as possible. Saw a live version on youtube with Neil playing it with his Kramer and the tone was to die for plus he was really on his game that day. Looked like an open air festival gig as it was daylight or early evening maybe. Never managed to find it again. Dave

Hearing good things (excuse the pun) about those Flair Audio Calmers reducing the effects of tinnitus. At £20 might be worth a punt @Dad3353. My tinnitus isn't bad enough to worry about at the moment. Dave

Has to be the best rock bass line ever written. So good to play and that tone is to die for in rock music. Dave

Had a band zoom meet Fri evening and we've agreed to cancel our Oct Gig. The venue hasn't announced its opening and its a regular venue for a few of the band and they know the owner really well. Main reason for cancelling is that being a 70's Glam Rock covers band our main audience are not teenager early 20's age group and fall into the more cautious age group and we don't feel confident enough that they will want to attend a gig 2 weeks after the rules change allowing limited audience gigs with social distancing. The venue is a proper rock venue with mostly standing room so table service isn't really an option. We are now thinking of holding off until 2021 before looking for gigs unless something comes along at Xmas that can offer safety in all respects. We will still keep at our rehearsals as we enjoy them plus we have a new member to the band who will need to settle in. Dave
