  1. Thanks, now sorted altho i am very close to my basses. Dave
  2. If you post on here i get a notification that its done. Its sometimes a gentle reminder to try new things. Dave
  3. All this talk of 5 & 6 stringers put me right in the mood for playing my Overwater custom fretless 6er. Its an odd thing but the string balance always sounds better and more balanced tonally thru a modern style of amp like my EBS Reidmar 750 compared to my Mesa Mpulse. The upper strings appear to sing better. Clearer. Have to say i thoroughly enjoyed my wee spell with it. I need to play it more often to get the benefit of fretless again. Dave
  4. Just ordered that album. I have a couple of her other studio albums. I bought I Am The Phoenix in 1981 when it came out and few yrs back i bought Moon on a Mirrorball Best of album. Wish i had seen her live back in 80's. Dave
  5. We've just booked our first studio rehearsal in Glasgow for 26th July. We have a gig beginning of October but still have no idea whether it will go ahead. If it does i just wonder how many people will actually turn up or buy tickets. Dave
  6. All of my fav live albums have already been mentioned. Special spot for Judie Tzuke tho. I had no idea that was the same bassist with Quo. Not sure why i never knew that. She has such a wonderful voice. I need to buy that live album now. Dave
  7. I love an open E string so best i stick with 4's. Dave
  8. It offers an insight into your character, how you behave, react and treat others. The person behind the bass. It allows others to judge you and your bass playing technique, your style, your levels of aggression, your depth of tone, your use of phrasing and of course how you stand on stage. And of course i am talking TOSH. As long as the bass player is competent and doing a good job. That's really all i'm interested in from any musician. 👍
  9. I prefer playing 4 stringers but i have fav players that use 4, 5 and 6. Many situations where that low B string helps the feel of a song and gives it a bit more depth. On the other hand i enjoy listening to some guys using a high C string on a 6er when playing chords. I wouldn't say there's been a commensurate jump in music but more a development.. Dave
  10. Like that. My kind of rock music. Dave
  11. If you haven't heard of Budgie might be worth doing a quick Google read on them. Its claimed they were the start of heavy metal and many bands including Iron Maiden state Budgie as one of their main influences. Apologies if you already know about them. Dave
  12. Or who's got the lead
  13. My older brother was into them and altho i liked some of their songs in 70's i wasn't a huge fan but as i got into Rush i started to listen more to them and bought more of their albums. Some i bought again on CD. I really like his melodic songs. An amazing voice instantly recognisable IMO. Shame they were never more famous or successful. Dave
  14. Left you a wee request se what you think Thanks for doing all of this. Its such a great idea and good we can dip in and pick something new to learn. Dave
  15. Website is excellent @Bilbo Just opened up and reading thru it all.
  16. Brilliant band. Never really noticed that Shirley Bassey likeness but get it now. Dave
  17. I quite like that. Am i weird or mentally disturbed. Guess i've always liked Shergolds since owning this monster 4&8
  18. Sounds like you are a great Dad and focusing on the important things for now, as you should. I commend you for that. @NJE Something i picked up on from @miles'tone post was getting a new bass every few months. Have you considered maybe picking up a cheap bass and doing it up as and when you have time and then selling on for a small profit. Might give you some motivation and you can dip in and out as and when you can. I personally think you are doing the right thing for now. You don't want to dump the kids on your wife while you take time out for hobbies and fun. I get that especially with your wife being a nurse which must be really hectic for her. Hopefully all of this will settle down in a bit and maybe then you'l find an hour here and there to enjoy bass playing again. Dave
  19. But you probably have a better insight than most of us.
  20. Its also the "In Case of Emergency" contact details on your mobile. But i'll go with the ice in my whisky
  21. For some people it just comes naturally and they don't stress about it. Others like me i struggled with 2 bands so dropped it to one but both were start up bands so learning 2 different sets at same time was too much for me and took away the enjoyment. I did go back to 2 bands again after the first full set was sorted with my main band but it fell away when Covid started and don't see it going ahead. Not too fussed tho. I know for a fact if i had a young family i'd be more focused on them and bass playing might fade away for me. Its just a hobby. Kids are for life so enjoy them.............while they still want to hang around you. Once teens you'll be too old for them Dave
  22. Sadness rather than depression is what i thought. Maybe the OP can tell us what he thinks. I've no real experience of depression so its not something i can genuinely comment on. Sadness on the other hand i think we've all gone thru periods like that. Dave
  23. Kind of obvious now that i see it. Bit of a "DOH !!!!!" moment there Bet you all laughed at me Dave
  24. Must admit that when i read the OP i took from it that other commitments like young family and new job / work commitments meant he was struggling to find the time to play bass and it made him sad that he wasn't able to do what he used to and from his own description of bass being his identity. Other things were pulling him away from who he thought he was and he was sad for that. Maybe i've misread it ? Sometimes other commitments become more important in life. That's just facts of life. We can go along with it but if it makes us sad maybe we should step back and look at what's more important in our own life. I guess that's what i did after a long break from playing. I'm not sure its anything deeper than that. Sometimes we just need to put our hobbies to one side to be successful in life. By being successful i mean being a good father and husband for his family and being committed to your career. Dave
  25. Sorry to say i don't know. Tried googling but came up with Bang & Olefson power amp company ? Any chance you could explain for us older idiots like me. Dave
