  1. Yes saw it a while back and wasn't impressed by the way the staff were treated. No honesty and if they treat their staff like that then how are they gonna treat their customers when things go wrong. Dave
  2. Have to say that is tight. Accent doesn't come across at all altho i'm Scottish too. Playing is first class from all the band. Can't fault it anywhere at all. Only Tribute band Promotion i know is Shock City in Glasgow who might be worthwhile contacting. They put on various shows with differing styles across the board. I'm not really a Level 42 fan either but you guys would be good to watch just for the bass alone. Think the slap is fine when its not just showing off doing constant bass solos. Mark King does it well during the songs. Wish you all the best guys Dave
  3. Worst (funniest) audition i had was for a Celtic Rock band where i was one of about 6 players being auditioned in one of the bands (large) house. Line up was drummer, guitarist, singer / fiddle player with female fiddle player and a 2nd female vocalist. I went in late afternoon, saw the previous guy leave and was there dead on my allocated time. I had prepared the songs they asked which were mainly covers with a couple of originals thrown in. I set my gear up (all lightweight kit) and as i was setting up the 2 girls confirmed to all in the room that the previous guy was perfect and ideal for the band. I carried on and altho not my usual style of music i think i did ok. I didn't get the job which was fine altho i was a bit annoyed at the girls adoration for the previous guy but never said anything. Thanked them for the audition and left it at that. A year later i got a call asking if i was still interested. The bass player had now moved on. At that point i told them i wasn't happy with the girls comments while i was there and found it inappropriate during an audition and not sure i could accept their lack of respect. That and i was now with another band. I have to admit that i did take some enjoyment from the conversation. That is the one and only audition i've failed. I guess i must have been 2nd choice then. Dave
  4. Even back then in the very eraly days of Rush Geddy's playing was exceptional for a rock bassist. Dave
  5. Drink coffee and talk bass a lot but at least you would both get along cause bass players are all nice people. You could try covering these 2 guys.
  6. Nice bass you've built and amazed at how little it cost you. Not being a huge fan of punk movement but my recollection of Bruce Foxton was with a Ric bass but i have seen occasional pics with the P bass. No matter what that bass sounds very nice and put me in the mood for a P bass or maybe a nice Ric but that's another topic Dave
  7. Nice really enjoyed that. Like the singers voice, its kinda lazy but very catchy. Band sound nice and tight altho i'm guessing its a mime for the VID here. VID clip made me laugh a bit too. Overall i'd be very happy with that song guys. As for the bass it sounds good and we need more details if its just been built ? Thanks for sharing Dave
  8. There are other brands that do it better in my opinion. Sandberg and Yamaha being the ones that come to my mind. Dave
  9. I'd seen some short clips of the St Catherine's gig but the one i posted is the full concert and it sounds good altho you can hear a lot of fret noise from Geddy. Just makes it real from back in the day. Dave
  10. I was of course joking altho i do the FB search if its available usually to check out any band VID clips
  11. Think that's why i might go down the route of a decent P bass and sell my P Deluxe bass.
  12. If anything like me they'll have done a FB search to see who you were and what you are up to. Then i'll youtube any bands you've been in. From there i'll google you to see if there's anything shady about you. Then i'll speak to friends in local Police Force and get all the dirt i can on to force you to play in my band. Simples really Dave
  13. Now that's really not nice at all and i would have done the same as you under those circumstances. I don't even get why they would do that in the first place. Some people are just weird sods. Dave
  14. Anyone ever heard this. Came across it by accident on Youtube. Its an early recording of Rush from 1974 in Ohio just one month after Neil Peart joined. This is Rush doing what they do best. Some amazing bass going on back then when they were early 20's. https://youtu.be/tbiOJ2fiqNM
  15. Better they told you sooner rather than later when you had learned the set for them. I'd try to stay amicable if you can. You never know what's gonna happen in the future and keeping amicable contacts is the way to go. If things change for them they can still call on you and you'll have the option of being the better person. You can either accept the position or simply say you are already with another band and you come out looking good with everyone. They could pass your details onto other bands that might be looking for a bass player. On the other hand you could give them abuse and that might follow you around the local circuit. Best stay amicable and just accept they wanted their mate. Nothing to do with you or your ability. Hopefully you'll get something else quickly and just move on. Dave
  16. Brilliant idea. I'm really looking forward to see how this project develops. Again i'm no luthier so can't help you i'm afraid but def hope you get a reply Dave
  17. Sure @karlfer might be able to help here. Think he's had a couple of the passive PJ versions. Mine is active and even with passive mode the P on its own just doesn't have that P tone. My Sandberg VM4 is the same altho its closer to a P than my P deluxe when solo'd on P pick up on passive mode. I therefore have a fancy for a standard P bass (curently looking at Vintera range) GAS is so hurtful. Dave
  18. Yes i can remember seeing him a lot on here. Did he not go down the route of solo bass shows ? Pretty sure i watched some of his VID clips on here Dave
  19. Sorted. !!! Well done Sylvia "Holmes" Dave
  20. Sibob, Sheponbass and Pantherairsoft. How confused am i then. There is a Simon Poulton bassist on FB uses twin Markbass heads with 2off Barefaced cabs but no idea which one of the above he is. Dave
  21. And a couple of weight lifting roadies to help
  22. That is exactly what i was just about to suggest.
  23. WOW that's bright and jumps off the page at you.
  24. Oddly enough the rehearsal studios i use have about 12 or 13 rooms all have Ampeg 810 with usually an EBS HD360 head. Depending on room i've noted differences in tone from the cabs with amp settings remaining same. Room sizes vary a little but not much.. I've always suspected that some speakers have been replaced but no idea wheteher the good cabs have the originals speakers or replacements ? Maybe they are different age cabs ? The good ones sound fuller and warmer yet still retain a sharpness when playing faster passages. Others are more woolly sounding where definition isn't so good. Rooms are all laid out in same manner with Marshall guitar amp one side of drums and bass cab on other side (snare side). That to me does suggest that different speakers in same cabs will sound different. Again its probably just me that notices it as no-one else has said anything. They probably don't listen to the bass anyway. They have commented on guitarists sound tho. Dave
