  1. I like them but as mentioned they generally have a very neutral sound. Its good for many things but typically not rock music that i usually play. They will however make you a bass that will fit better with rock music with your choice of pick ups and pre-amp if that's what you want. I have a 6er fretless custom that i bought for my 50th before i started playing in bands again but i rarely use it these days. I would never dream of selling it as it has a pearl inlaid name on board and its just to nice to sell. I like occasionally playing around with it. Great for that Tony Levin Chapman stick tone tho I also have a contemporary J4 that was built at Overwaters workshop rather than at Tanglewood. Overwater name but no serial number. It was finished very well by Chris and Martin. Think it was made from the pre-production parts they used to demo for Tanglewood. Lovely bass to play but i just don't like the pick-ups or pre-amp or both. They don't have any warmth or growl but they don't talk to me in a way that my other basses do I'm thinking of changing pick ups and pre-amp at some point as its a nice bass to play otherwise. Overall i like their basses but i think a change of pre-amp or pick ups would certainly offer more for rock bassists giving a little more growl or warmth depending on what you want. Always fancied the original 4 stringers with that T-bird shape going on. Dave
  2. Glasgow SECC was always a hit or a miss for sound in my experience. I always try to sit near the sound desk at any major gig. If anywhere is gonna have the best overall sound its the sound desk. Dave
  3. No probs, "happy to help" Hope you get a quick sale. Dave
  4. What and where is FB Purity. Is it on the FB page or do i need to google and download it ?
  5. Jings you had me worried there Paul.
  6. My Walls have cavities too. sorry couldn't resist. i'll get my jacket on way out Dave
  7. what adverts ? i've never even notice any. ?
  8. Would a membership pack every year be a way to go. No idea how or what you would include in that tho. Of course many use BC as a social experience and maybe never sell or buy anything on the marketplace so its a hard call on how best to fund the site. Dave
  9. No adverts for me. Its ruining FB for me. I'm fed up reporting them. I was getting adverts every 2nd post on FB. Almost at the point of packing it in. If adverts happen on here i'll be out. Dave
  10. I'm happy with the £20. Its worth it for me cause i'm on the site every day and i get a lot of enjoyment from it..........most of the time Dave
  11. Certainly wouldn't be me buying one Seriously tho some of those amps are designed to be carted around for smaller gigs or rehearsals so i'm still a bit surprised by the Fender Rumble 100 and the Orange and Hartke gear failures. Unless you're driving them at full volume but you'd hear speakers crackling or distortion before it finally gave up the ghost and burst into flames. Usually they just stop working if over-driven, not usually a fire risk tho. Did they tell you what caused the problems or just simply refund or replace ? I'd def want to know more to let me remedy the situation Dave
  12. I went back to using my Jazz at home which has D'addario nickels and altho i liked it i have to say i now prefer the feel and tone of the La Bella low tension flats on my Sandberg. The thing i like most is the lack of fret noise when playing loud at either rehearsals or gigs. Something else i've found with the flats is that if i play to hard with them as i did with the nickel rounds i can't move as quickly however if i play both basses or strings with a lighter touch i can move my left hand a lot faster and with less strain on the flats than the rounds. Playing hard i find it easier with the rounds. Weird that. ??? In rehearsals using the flats and thru an EBS HD360 head and Ampeg 810 cab the tone was fantastic. Almost flat with character button in and a little boost on bass and a touch boost on approx 400Hz. Bright was at 12 oclock point and a touch of Drive. Gain was notched back until it stopped clipping and Compressor was just coming on with almost every note during rocky type songs but occasionally with more quiet songs. The sound had a nice click as i played the strings which i reckon was down to a treble / bright boost setting. Not as warm a tone as my Mesa rig but i might try a bit more hi end next time i use the Mesa. Maybe even up the Gain for a bit more drive. Have been considering a Tech 21 Geddy rackmount as i have a spare 1U space in my rack. Dave
  13. Didn't think i had any annoyances until i read this thread. Dave
  14. I wouldn't expect that from Fender Orange or Hartke. All companies i associate with reasonably reliable gear. Dave
  15. Might be better putting them in the Amps and Cabs for sale. Should get more views and hopefully a sale. Dave
  16. What amps are you buying that blow up or catch fire. In 40+yrs of playing i've only ever had one amp that smoked. I was using a Roland pre-am into 2off Matamp power amps. One of them started smoking while i was playing a gig. Roadie pulled the plug on it and i just carried on regardless with the other one. Both were feeding different cabs but it was only backline. That was back in 80;s. Dave
  17. Looking very "dapper" there Blue. Must have been a posh gig with you wearing a shirt.
  18. Probably a daft question but being the dafty i am i might as well ask Andy. Whats "erb" Extended Range Bass ? i just answered my own question as i was typing it. Its written and so it shall be posted Dave
  19. I quite like the idea of a sub-section in basses for sale for those outside the UK. But then again i do get to see a lot of gorgeous basses when i'm browsing. If i found the right bass (ie the Kramer DMZ 4001 i'm currently lookng for) i might buy from abroad. What puts me off is that the bass i'm looking for is from 70's / 80's and without inspecting you never really know what you are gonna get. Dave
  20. I have one of those Overwaters (fretless 6er) and that was a ridiculously low price to sell for that quality. If you want a quick sale its the only way to go. I've sold 2nd hand basses for lot less than i paid. If i've enjoyed playing it then i've had my money's worth. Think you need to check the market before listing a price and try to be realistic. If you are not in any rush to sell then you can def hold out for more but for most of us the GAS takes over and we get a little desperate. Well for me anyways Dave
  21. I bought a book of 6 Rush songs transcribed with a CD to play along with. Some of the older songs lie YYZ and Tom Sawyer, Spirit of the Radio. Went thru to check see if Show Don't Tell was in it but its not. Dave
  22. I'm too old and too wise to be taking risks buying things from outside UK @ped I know it limits my choices but i'll wait until something comes along nearer hand that i can try out. No idea what i'm gonna do if the Indy#2 goes thru up here and we build the wall again. England will be a foreign country It'll be me and a few others swapping bass stories between us.
  23. One problem i'm finding on BC at the moment is that every bass i really like seems to be from outside the UK. There seems to an awful lot of basses for sale from outside UK. I'm not brave enough to buy from outside the UK. Dave
  24. I was playing up your way in Camelon Ochiltree Social club on 28th Dec. Was a pretty good night. Dave
  25. Shame these things happen anywhere but i've had the opposite on BC where @muydeemer travelled up by train from London to pick up a bass at Glasgow. I drove into Glasgow about 50miles for me but unfortunately he was held up due to flooding at that time which was on the news. He contacted me several times with updates and fortunately i was able to wait in Glasgow, get a late lunch /early dinner with my wife until he arrived. Guy was brilliant, liked the bass handed over the cash with absolutely no issues. He jumped back on the train that was just about to leave and all done in 10mins. I've had some great deals with both BC and FB to be honest but generally i find BC deals go a bit smoother. No idea why but maybe its because most of us are all doing the same thing when it comes to GAS and we just like being treated the same way we would treat others. We are a lovely bunch of people on BC. Dave
