  1. OP asked what fellow BC'ers do. The 6hr session was simply a reply to his question. Each band has to decide what suits them best. The 6 hr sessions that i prefer doesn't suit others in the band but because of the travel involved and the parking issues around Glasgow studios these days it simply made sense for us. Agree the issues need to be resolved first. Dave
  2. Think i've been in that one and its rooms are quite small and the gear isn't very good plus some of the mains sockets looked a bit suspect to me. Is that the one near the station. Dave
  3. Berkeley in Glasgow. It has good studio gear and not too expensive. Car Park is a bit small and with the sunday parking charges now it means you need to get in early. Singer from Boness, Keys from Ratho, drummer from Wanlockhead, Guitarist from Glasgow so he's got it easy and me from Thankerton. Ideally Allister from MacFloyds studio in Cumbernauld would have been perfect and more central but alas they had to close down because of council rates going thru the roof after first few years. Dave
  4. Not progressing fast enough. My absolute time limit for a start up band is 1 year and if not gigging seriously or no sign of gigging then its time to move on. Unsuited personalities within a band. For me we need to get along and be able to openly discuss any issues. Choice of music. I need to enjoy what i'm playing. Been in bands that started of doing what i enjoyed which is usually Classic Rock and over time the set changed more to heavy metal or the other extreme playing pop songs. Too boring for me if i'm not enjoying the songs. Time to move on again. People not putting in the effort. Worst was when i was learning the bass parts and driving 45miles over country roads during winter months to a bands local rehearsal room to find out "they hadn't bothered" and that was a quote. If that happens once i'll accept it but not on a regular basis. As i was the new guy it lasted about 6mths did a couple of gigs and needed to refresh the set with new songs to replace ones that didn't work so well and that was what i got when i arrived. Not good at all. Think that's it for me really. Dave
  5. We would normally rehearse every week 3hrs but with hols and other band commitments and no gigs until Dec its about every 3 weeks altho we do a 6hr session. I prefer the 6 hr sessions as they seem a bit more relaxed and we can spend time sorting things out in a 34 song set. We have a few new songs to add for the Xmas festivities as well. My personal preferance would be every fortnight doing 6hr sessions and that reduces the travel costs as opposed to weekly. We are all quite well scattered and i'm 40+ miles to the rehearsal studios. Drummer is further altho its mostly motorway driving. Dave
  6. Brilliant album. Saw them supporting Rush on either the Farewell to Kings or Hemispheres tour. Still enjoy playing it. Dave
  7. That was so good. Shame we couldn't see the bass player much. Curious what bass that is. Sounded great. Love playing that song. Thanks for posting Dave

  9. I've tried the DR strings altho can't remember which ones but they didn't feel much different to the D'addario nickels i was using and didn't last any longer either. Went back to the cheaper D'addario nickels. Have to say i'm quite liking the Sandberg Stainless. Not as sore on my wee dainty fingers as i thought they might be. Dave
  10. Not a prob if you don't have the kit. I'll maybe google the La Bella strings see what clips they have. Is the lower tension quite noticeable and what gauge do you use. ? I'm still on the hunt for the perfect string. Currently its D'addario nickels or Sandberg stainless on my VM4 Dave
  11. In my earlier bands we always tuned to the keys player for some strange reason. In those days he couldn't adjust his tuning easily. Was very rare for my bass to go out of tune at a gig as i always had them sitting in the room temperature to settle before tuning. I can remember the cassette thing too and before that lifting the stylus back on a record. Tapes certainly made it easier. Dave
  12. A wee sound clip if you can. I like the idea of lower tension without losing the depth altho i do prefer roundwound strings but i could be tempted. Dave
  13. Just checked and mine was actually a Korg
  14. I learned to tune with pitch pipes and harmonics 40+ yrs ago but changed to a tuner as soon as i realised they were available and had a Boss tuner to start. Tuners can be picked up for a few quid these days. Tuner makes life easier so why not. ? Altho i prefer my Jazz basses I've always thought of P basses for reggae for some reason but its a style i don't play or listen to very often so i'm in no way an expert on Reggae. What about :- Tokai Puncher, Yamaha BB434 or similar range (don't know their full range) Aria did a nice P style bass as well that i remember quite a few talking about. Dave
  15. Someone posted this guy doing Crazy Train earlier today and been having a wee listen to how incredible this guys voice is. Really liked this one in particular.
  16. Not heard that band in a long time. I remember meeting Dave Greenslade and Tony Reeves at a Burns demo in a local hotel back in late 70's. Some great basslines in Greenslade by Mr Reeves. Bought the album mainly for the basslines. Dave
  17. Good choice. I'd be happy with them 3 as well
  18. There's definitely a pattern forming with you Cuzzie. Have you got shares in Sandberg. Top man. Dave
  19. I love my Mpulse 600 Its been the best amp i've ever bought. Dave
  20. That's quite a lot of gear i quite fancied trying so thanks for that Out of curiosity what are you using now ? Dave
  21. Have a chat with Mark from Classic and Cool Guitars / Limelight Customs as i think they use Allparts for either bodies or necks and might be able to help you out. He knows his stuff and is very god to deal with. I bought my Sandberg from https://classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/limelight-custom-gallery/ Dave
  22. That is truly stunning. Very very nice but i already have a Geddy Jazz i'm afraid otherwise i'd be very tempted by that. GLWTS Dave
