  1. There was a fair bit of messaging and discussion before and after i agreed on the sale and he seemed genuinely keen to sell. Obviously relaxing on holiday allowed him to come to his senses and decide to keep the bass and on hindsight i can understand why. I've calmed down a lot now and can fully appreciate why he wants to keep the bass. As pointed out poor communication has caused me to take the wrong approach in this matter. Had things been done differently i would have been more understanding and simply walked away on reasonably good terms. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. On a positive note we have had some good, friendly debate without the aggression and anger often seen on forums and i guess that's why we all enjoy being here on BC. Things happening outwith our control are more readily accepted in my opinion krispn. Dave
  2. Rehearsal studio we use is 40 miles from me. Suggest you rehearse every for fortnight for 6hrs rather than every week for 3 hrs. Cuts the mileage travelled, saves time on the set up and take down of gear at rehearsals, its more relaxed and you seem to get thru more and of course every Sunday isn't tied up with rehearsals if its a Sunday you rehearse of course. The other thing in Glasgow you need to pay to park on Sundays now so that's an additional cost on rehearsals and at £4 / 3hrs max stay 4 hrs.which will cause an issue for lng rehearsals of 6hrs unless you can get into the small studio car park
  3. I have some basses that have sentimental value ie presents from my wife and i won't sell them. Others i have bought as GAS and maybe for specific projects / bands. Again some of them i really enjoy and altho not sentimental value i just like having them. My Fender Jazz Geddy Signature being one i just like having. Its a great bass to play. My Sandberg VM4 is same. My Overwater J4 and my Fender P deluxe MIM are basses i would sell on without 2nd thought. They are ok basses but not great basses. All in all i tend to keep basses i really enjoy playing or need for a specific band. Dave
  4. I guess frustration is a good way to describe how i feel about it.
  5. If the seller had suggested he had doubts from the outset i may have decided to go for the other bass. I'll never know. No point in dwelling on it. Its done and dusted and i'll move on.
  6. Not quite. The point Cuzzie was making is that i missed out on another bass that i was interested in and because of the withdrawal i missed out on both basses.
  7. Lets be honest here. Its mainly disappointment in not getting the bass. There is an element of disappointment in someone not going thru with an agreed sale but mainly its not getting a bass i've been considering for sometime. At the end of the day there will be other basses i can buy. If i'm that desperate i can buy a new one. In future i'll refrain from stating my own personal opinions on how i expect people to behave.
  8. Couple of things i can answer there. I was offered an amp at a price which i agreed then the seller said he'd seen the amp at a lower price and suggested the lower price. I told him i would pay what we agreed on . Answer to your question is YES i did pay what we agreed on initially. That's morals and ethics for you. Its what makes people honest and trustworthy (possibly stupid in some peoples opinions on BC) Old fashioned decency i guess but its what defines a persons character. People on BC can joke all they like about ethics, morals, decency and honesty but i'm happy to be known as someone of good character that can be trusted to do what i say i will. Your last point is YES again. I think if the seller had approached me in a different manner i would have been disappointed but understood where he's coming from and that choice to agree on not proceeding would have been mine and i can tell you now i would have accepted that without issue. I guess that's what this is down to. Its how you present yourself. Some people can do it well while others don't have the ability.
  9. So if someone tells you they will do something and don't you are all ok with that. ? Each to their own. Its not the way i was brought up.
  10. After having a good nights sleep and on hindsight maybe i shouldn't have reacted the way i did. I have not and will not name and shame for something that appears trivial Like most that have replied we agree this is not nice no matter what the reason and its disappointing when it happens. On the other hand some people have made their point clear that i shouldn't be raising this topic for discussion. Its their right to voice their own opinions on BC whether i agree with them or not. The thread has obviously been a contentious subject and for me justifies posting it. Its created debate without aggression. I'll continue to live my life knowing that when i agree something i'll stand by it.
  11. I haven't mentioned any names and i won't but i still stand by how i do business with people. It creates trust. If i make a deal with someone then it stands and maybe its a bit old fashioned but people learn to trust me as my feedback clearly shows. I missed out on another bass because i decided on this one and because i was being helpful in waiting the other bass has now sold too so in my eyes their is harm done. If someone isn't sure about selling their gear they shouldn't advertise it. Dave
  12. Think there is a bit of that happening too The other bass was a cracker too
  13. I've always thought we had an unwritten code of ethics and just common decency on BC. Its extremely disappointing to find someone that doesn't share those ethics and honour. I'm definitely old fashioned and have respect for others. If i agree a deal then that's final for me. Pretty sure its a one off but it doesn't half p*ss you off a bit. Dave
  14. Agreed to buy a bass at sellers asking price plus courier if required from someone on BC but as they were going on holiday we agreed to wait until they return to sort out the details of courier etc. Halfway thru their holiday they withdraw the bass from the sale and send me a message to say they had decided to keep it. Has honesty, trust and word is your bond something that we don't bother with these days. If i agree to sell something to someone then that's a given for me and i can't and won't go back on that deal no matter what. Maybe i'm just old fashioned in that respect. I missed the chance of a very nice Limelight bass because i was waiting for the said bass. Obviously i am very angry and disappointed to say the least and this sounds like a rant but i always thought BC was a safe place to buy gear without issue. Seems i am wrong. Surely you don't advertise an item for sale if you aren't sure. Just me that thinks that way ??? I simply can't be bothered with people that waste my time. Maybe others have some thoughts on this kind of thing. Personally i am pretty p****d off at the moment. Dave
  15. That's a bit disappointing and annoying after we agreed to sort out when you returned from holiday.
  16. Interesting point about using just one courier. Have to say i've had parcels go amiss in UK so guess there's no guarantees with any courier.
  17. Seeing quite a few very nice basses in various European countries. Just curious to know if anyone has bought from abroad in a private sale. Were there any issues worth pointing out. Obviously Brexit may change things in future but for now did everything go according to plan. Dave
  18. its one of those venues that you can hire and take money at the door so venue generally gets a fixed fee which isn't a huge amount for centre of Glasgow. They do organise their own gigs and take door money. Dave
  19. Look forward to hearing how it goes jacko. Dave
  20. I'd be scared those top cabs on each PA column would fall off if a wave appeared from a passing boat.
  21. Not the best of kit. Think the bass amp is an ashdown combo of some kind. Never seen the actual drumkit so not able to comment on that. Any band i've been in have always taken their own backline which i would advise if you want a good sound. To be fair the sound engineer is a guy called Cammy and he's excellent and always gets a pretty good sound out front and the monitoring system is pretty good too. Staff are all good guys and gals too. Usually get access at back door in the lane around 5pm so ample time to set up and sound check before anyone allowed in at 7pm Stage is a reasonable size altho keys normally set up behind pillar and PA on stage right if standing on stage laying that is. (on the stage left if in audience) The venue is a bit dark and mmmmm but it always seems to work well. I'd say its more a guy venue than one for the girls. Many women think its a bit yuchy. Pulls in a good crowd usually with quite a few just turning up on the night looking for a good band. What's the band Jacko and what's line up in the band ie bass, guitar, drums kinda thing. ? Dave
  22. Makes me an old duffer too now as i'm jst about to buy one when guy gets back from hols end of the week. Of course i did have a fretless one when i was early 20's. That was nice. Dave
