  1. Think it should be ok provided you have isolated power supplies like the Trex or something similar. Don't daisy chain as that can cause problems with several pedals. Dave
  2. You also have the Festival circuit over the Summer months Peteb altho its maybe a little late to get on the listings this year but you should give that a try. They usually have some cancellations at festivals. Check what's near you. Dave
  3. Most up and coming tributes tend to team up with another tribute band to put on a show. Not specifically main and support act. Its just 2 or 3 tribute bands playing the one show. Worth thinking about. Once the band is confirmed on the circuit you could go it alone as i think a Magnum tribute will be very popular. A lot more than you think. I wish you every success and hope to see you somewhere. Dave
  4. From what i've found its the combination P/J basses that seem to get lost in the mix. Take a Jazz bass on its own and its quite punchy in the mix. A P bass sits lower frequency but also seems to find its own niche in the mix. With a P bass i usually don't need to adjust the EQ too much whereas with my Jazz i sometimes have to tweak things more. Have to say that since getting the Mesa rig the Jazz seems to have a lot more depth to it than with any other amp i've tried. I stopped using my J bass at rehearsals because it lacked a bit of depth, not bass or Low end just depth. The Mesa seems to provide that. The tone just seems to surround you on stage. I've still to try my PJ with my Mesa rig. With my Fender P/J i just find the blend is either both pickups or one or the other. There's no gradual fade between them that i can hear or if it is its extremely minimal. Pretty sure the new Sandberg will be fine tho. Better quality pre-amp and pick ups. Dave
  5. I think the latter. The keyboard player asked if this was the new bass i had just bought. I said no i've been using this same bass for the past since band formed. Our guitarist (who also plays bass in his other band) has mentioned that he prefers the PJ to my Jazz bass as it has more depth. I agree with him altho using my Jazz thru my Mesa rig it has more than enough depth. Must just be the relationship between some basses with certain amps. Dave
  6. I had a really nice tone at rehearsals today with my Fender PJ with everything mid-point. Pick-up balance in centre and EQ off or in centre position. Aguilar AG500 head all flat EQ although the preselect buttons were in. Was really getting into it. I could have done with a little mid range added but didn't want to change anything cause i was having such great fun today. Only difference was i had lowered the volume and was playing harder with my right plucking hand. I now have sore fingertips tho and won't be doing that again.
  7. Out of curiosity what strings do Sandberg basses come supplied with ? Dave
  8. I'm getting more and more GAS for a J style Sandberg as well. Big birthday next year so i reckon that's what i'll be persuading my wife to buy me. Dave
  9. Cheers Ian i'd buy a copy of that. Sounds like the kind of books i enjoy. Amazon don't have any actual copies tho ? PM replied. Dave
  10. Really appreciate the offer to try them but London a bit of a stretch but very nice of you to offer. Much appreciated. That's what BC is all about. A great bunch of guys happy to share experiences and gear to help you out. Doesn't get much better than this. Dave
  11. Reverse neck on the white one is a nice touch. And the pick ups are more like the Fender J with 8-pole instead of 4 pole delano style i normally see. Dave
  12. I remeber looking at an Elite P in Bass Direct few yrs back and thinkng that must sound pretty awesome. Dave
  13. NOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!!! That's how it started with me. Its too late for you now. You will now need to buy a Sandberg. You have been hooked. Dave
  14. Yep Mark made me a great offer on the Sandberg and was very helpful. The other option was Thomann but i'd prefer to buy from UK. Had a few issues with Thomann couple yrs ago and you end up getting charges on your card when dealing abroad altho that may have changed these days as they do Paypal. Dave
  15. Out of curiosity post a wee pic or even better post one of a normal size. Dave
  16. It does have a blend in active and passive and listening to various Youtube reviews i could hear the change as the belnd was adjusted slowly between each pick up. A lot more than i can on my current Fender PJ. Dave
  17. I never actually noticed the headstock looking like a can opener but that's handy. Cheers Cuzzie i know you are a big fan and your PM's certainly had a helping hand in what i was looking for. Much appreciated sir. Having already tried them i know i'm gonna love it. Dave
  18. That just sounds disgusting and i'll never buy a bass from you now.
  19. This is the shop pic. Should be delivered next week tho.
  20. Have to say i've listened to a lot of the Sandberg VM4 bass clips and they sound great to me with the pick up blend in centre point. Also noticed that with the Sandberg basses you can fade or blend the pick ups and still hear the changes wheras my Fender PJ it seems to be one or the other pick up or both Dave
  21. That's where i'm heading Sandberg VM4 on order today. My choice was actually a P bass even tho i don't have one of them And my fav bass to play is my Jazz but tonally not as competent as a P bass. IMHO of course. Dave
  22. I married one A guy i know soaks his fingertips in vinegar the day of a gig. Also saves getting vinegar on his after-gig chips i reckon. I used to get similar when i first started playing bass because i played so hard with my plucking fingers and even had blood coming from my finger on one occasion. Turn up the amp and lighten your touch. You may also need to adjust your EQ as a lighter touch with more gain i find has more low end and i usually pull the bass back a little to compensate. I use moisturiser on my finger tips both hands. I have an issue with my index finger on fretting hand due to digging in with certain basses that have higher frets. I occassionally put some Voltarol on my index finger but only if i have any jagging pain. I don't get it with any other fingers and i never get it when playing my Jazz bass. Its usually my PJ with the taller frets. Dave
