  1. Seeing this quite a lot these days. Shame as you lose the feel of the band
  2. The Spirit of Bad Co & Free at Lanark Memorial Hall. Band were good. Individually all great musicians and very competent. Singer did a great Paul Rodgers too. I never got to see the original bands but what came across last night was that it was very subdued. Not sure what it was. Band sounded more like a club band doing covers if that makes sense. Not sure if it was down to a lack of energy in their individual playing or the fact they were pretty quiet. I was in 3rd row centre and i could even here the click from the guitarists pedals during songs. Good for my hearing but it just didn't come over like how i imagined the original bands. Still worth seeing if you're a Bad Co or Free fan. Majority of the band also do an Eagles tribute called Hotel California who also have a good reputation on the tribute scene. Dave
  3. I didn't list too many newer albums cause they haven't always been there. I just assumed it meant over the years since way back. I will now add IQ - Road of Bones
  4. Yep you have to admit that fellow BC'ers do offer their help whenever we need it. Makes you proud to be part of it. One big happy family.......well most of the time anyways. Dave
  5. And there's the start right there Ozzma. You're on yir way sir. Dave
  6. He's never used it in front of you but secretly and behind your back he'll be cursing you
  7. Now there's a guilt trip for you
  8. Is it possible you are spending too much of your time doing band stuff whether that be writing, recording, playing. Maybe you need a break from it. When i say a break i mean not spending every day on band stuff. Do you have any other hobbies ? Sometimes spending too much time on your hobby turns it into a chore more like work and not everyone enjoys their job. Dave
  9. Good decision. Drink never solves anything. You don't need it. Once things settle down have a small drink just to relax a little and chill out but only when you know you are in control of it and not the other way round. How sad is this but i look forward to my weekly visit to Costa coffee and sit at window and just watch the world go by for an hour.. Now that really is sad Take care. Dave
  10. Its not pathetic at all. There's nothing pathetic about depression and perhaps as mentioned earlier you should talk with your GP. I have no experience with depression at all so it would be unwise or unacceptable for me to offer any advice. I was trying to relate your age to where i was at that time. I wasn't involved in bands from age 35 to 50 but that was mainly down to work taking over my life. I can only hope things sort themselves out and you regain your enthusiasm and commitment to playing in bands again. All the very best Dave
  11. You gotta keep trying if you want a band to succeed. Never give up on a dream. Do what it takes even if its not great all the time focus on the good points. All songwriters go thru phases where they think their material isn't up to scratch. That's just how it is and once you realise that you are on the way to succeeding as a songwriter and within a band. I've been thru so many bands in past 9 yrs since getting back into playing in bands at age 50. Some were great bands but personality clashes with each other caused the band to fail, others just lacked drive and commitment but my current band i'm really enjoying. My point is that you just need to keep focused on what you want and keep the dream alive. Not sure what age you are so its a bit difficult to make comparisons as i certainly have had different views on bands thru my life from being like you around age 20yrs old where bass was my mainstay in life and its what kept me going thru to couldn't be bothered with bands or people up to present day again where its my main focus again (i'm now retired so that helps) My advice is to never give up the dream. We all need a dream. Dave
  12. Its the luck of the draw when you put something in an auction. All depends on who's there buying. Based on what's been said i would have expected the reserve to be higher. They have a lot of behind the scenes evaluators before people go on camera to sell or auction it. I once complained to the BBC but they simply fluffed a response to me with no facts or real evidence. For me BBC is simply an untrustworthy company that i do try and avoid as much as possible but sometimes there's nowt else on
  13. Jings i must have been a rich dude back then starting with a Columbas Jazz. Wonder what went wrong after that
  14. My first bass is the Columbas Jazz on left in this picture. I sanded down the Columbas name and put my own on it but made an derrière of it so my mate redid it after this pic was taken and did a great job of it. He still has the bass. The Shergold 4 & 8 string was my 2nd bass. My first amp was a Sound City amp and cab but don't have any pics of it.
  15. Watch it occassionally when nothing else on and its pissin down outside but you always take a risk at any auction. They really should have taken it to a musical equipment auction if they wanted a better price. Dave
  16. Bowie - best of albums. If i had to choose it would be either Ziggy Stardust or Alladin Sane Sweet - Any of their Greatest hits Eagles - Greatest Hits Genesis - Seconds Out or Then There Were Three Pink Floyd - DSOTM Bruford - One of a Kind Camel - Live Record Gregg Allman - I'm No Angel Gino Vannelli - Brother to Brother Peter Gabriel - Best of album that i can't remember the name ? I tend to play this when working in my garage so its on a lot. More recent album in last 10 yrs is Arjen Lucassen - Lost In the New Real Oddly enough i have all the Rush albums but not one that i constantly play. So many albums i tend to just pick one from my collection. Too many to choose from
  17. Liking that little tip. Nice one.
  18. That's a definite for me too. If you can keep your notes somewhere discreet rather than the obvious lyrics on a stand that singers do in some bands. Most of all enjoy yourself and have fun with it. Dave
  19. well done.
  20. I'm guessing its a Yamaha bass but it could be anything really. Lok forward to some pics when it arrives.
  21. When the museum was being built HOG members could buy a name plate for one of the walls if i remember right. Its like a Harley Mecca. You should visit once in your lifetime. Dave
  22. That's what i was like at work. I changed to de-caf coffee and it made a huge difference. If like me you love your coffee and its not taken purely as a stimulant to keep you awake then the de-caf option might help. Dave
  23. I've had the same problem thru my working life where i just couldn't switch off. Mostly it was work related and much of the advice mentioned in previous posts is good if not excellent. With rehearsal at night its usually excitement that keeps me awake and i need to sit and relax either watching a comedy programme on TV or read a bit of a book or even a bike mag. One bit of advice i got was to remove those red led clocks or any lit clocks from the beroom. My alarm clock only lights up when the alarm comes on. That helped and i still believe that even tho i'm now retired. I still get the occassional night where i go to bed and get back up. I know this goes against all good advice but i'll have a milky coffee and go straight to bed again. 2 things will happen. You will either fall asleep quickly or if not sleeping after 10-15mins then the caffeine will kick in and you could end up being more awake. For me i usually fall asleep within 5mins. That's not for everyone tho. I came across this little clip on how to meditate that might help based on what cheddatom said above. I tried this and found it really works quite well and it can be done anywhere even when lying in bed.
  24. I like the look of that. Dave
