  1. My friends were also fans of Stevie Winwood. Just for you Pete
  2. Wasn't at the gig myself but my friends were at the Glasgow gig and said Stevie Winwood was really good too.
  3. They were rehearsing in the studio next door to us 2 weeks ago before playing Glasgow mid week. Studio corridors were littered with large flight cases. Guitar techs setting up guitars in the rest areas of the corridors. That was worth watching. One flightcase had several guitars and only one bass. The case next to it when opened was a work area with a PC screen attached to the underside of the lid so when opened he had tuning and set up software on it when we walked past. He was in process of restringing a guitar. Was a bit odd having all these American accents in the area. Not used to hearing that in the studios. Dave
  4. I've still got to work the detail on it but the basics are relatively easy and just nice to play. Played alng with it a couple of times so far but that's it at the moment. Maybe this week i'll sort out the wee runs during the chorus. Dave
  5. We've decided to add Waterloo to our 70's Glam Rock covers band set. Great to play.
  6. Think many professions have gone down that route. You don't get car mechanics now ........vehicle technicians Labourers........site operative Fitter ......... mechanical technician or engineer Electrician (industrial) ......electrical technician or engineer Production / Plant operative...............production / Plant engineer even routine jobs like boiler servicing / repairs or home alarm systems you get Service Engineer. Years back an engineer was someone who had achieved degree status at college or University and was generally hired for his theoretical knowledge rather than hands on. All change these days Dave
  7. He phoned me direct and i shared on FB with the world. You have been warned. Hippie Dave's take no prisoners.
  8. I was once told that dreams usually mean the opposite. No idea who or where it came from and i can't validate its authenticity. So you'll buy what you think is a fantastic Custom bass at a ridiculous price only to find out its a cheap foreign import and you'll need to pay substantial import tax after March Dave
  9. When i bought my Jazz bass quite a few yrs ago it came with Fender strings and i started putting on the Fender nickel 7250's. Few yrs ago i decided to try others and ended up with the D'addario EXL190's I've been using Daddario EXL190 Nickel or variations around that gauge but nearly always come back to the 190's. Thought i would go back to the 7250's as i had heard D'addario were making them (if that's true ?). Put them on today and found the feel was actually smoother than the EXL190's but the twang wasn't quite as noticeable with the Fenders. They feel god to play tho and at £12.99 from GAK they are a lot cheaper. I did notice that the G & D strings are slightly more noticeable than the EXL190's Not sure if its a volume thing or just the string tone makes it sound more upfront. Its not a lot and only something i would notice at home but not at a gig. Again its not really obvious across the 4 fender strings but just compared to the D'addarios. Curious to see how long they'll last as the EXL190's were on for 3mths altho i wasn't using that particular bass in the band and just at home. My Precision has had EXL190's on for 2mths now and they still sound OK and just starting to go slightly dull. The P bass is the one i use most in my current band. If they last a minimum of 2mths on my jazz i'll maybe start using them across my basses again. I do like the D'addarios but when a string is 2/3 the price then its a no brainer for me. Dave
  10. On some songs i've done where bassline changes every chorus i'll just play the same chorus notes each time unless its a specific stand out bassline but that's not normal in most songs. I'll write the full song out note for note anyway but as you say it's remembering what chorus has what bassline. Most people don't or won't notice. Just pick the best of the chorus bass lines and if its a tricky line then do that one. You'll enjoy playing it more and if the audience does pick up on it they'll see that you learned the harder part. Sneakiness is my forte Dave
  11. And i'm still waiting on you posting it to me Kevin. Dave
  12. Don't feel bad. If its a genuine reason then there's not a lot anyone can do and everyone in the band would or should accept that even if you were the dep. Deps get sick too you know. Dave
  13. I would never let someone down in those circumstances. Simple as that. Altho not a depping thing majority of our band play with one or two other bands and its a case of 1st in diary gets the gig. If a bigger or better paid gig comes in later then too bad unless everyone involved agrees and accepts that something is too good an opportunity for them. Under those circumstances the person would need to contact the venue to cancel or ask for gig to be rescheduled. We don't use deps in any of the bands. Pretty bad thing to do for any musician. What comes around goes around as they say in the business. Dave
  14. On long journeys someone told me to try listening to book being read out on CD or the modern equivelant. He said it was very relaxing but i never have got round to it. Dave
  15. Come on give it some wellie. Looks and sounds like my old Grannie pulling away there. Bet that sounds impressive when its really getting some throttle. Dave
  16. Mine was ordered on 20th Dec arriving 2 days ago
  17. we don't have the option in Scotland. Our only options are :- 1. a fine 2. a fine and a ban 3. a fine a ban and goto jail 4. DON'T SPEED Dave
  18. Always found this one a little tricky timing plus keeping this riff for 4-5mins strained my fret hand muscles a lot.
  19. My order was placed mid December and arrived 2 days ago.
