Hell Is Other People (who know you play in a band)
dmccombe7 replied to Monkey Steve's topic in General Discussion
Let us know how you kill time between gigs. I find it the hardest part even a 2 or 3 gig mini tour over a weekend can be murder trying to find things to do during the day in a strange place. Not that i've done it very often to be honest. Gig diary is always great fun to read on here so please share with us and wishing you all the very best with the tour sir. Dave -
Band i was in 2 yrs ago was taking £500 for a club gig but they were regulars on the club circuit. Not sure what they took for a pub gig as i never actually played a pub with them but i know it was less. For a new band in a club i would be expecting £300 upwards from what other musicians have told me. We've just been offered £1200 at a social club for a first gig as Glam Rock covers band altho our singer has played this club solo with backing tracks for £300. The gig is also on 28th Dec so that's gonna make a big difference. This is a new band and looking to start gigging in April this year. (new keys player starts next week) The band are all pertty well known on their respective circuits and have come together to do this project as we all have a love of 70's Glam Rock. They are talking gigs £1k upwards doings clubs and theatres. Drummer ex-Glitterband (1990's era) and keys from Racey (circa 90's era) I'm really quite excited about this wee band. Great fun so far. ENT consultant years ago told me i had a deviated septum and i get a blocked nose on my right side and now that you mention flying it brought back memories of flights even as far back as 80's when plane decended my right ear got painful. If i am subjected to any noise i initially get a pain in my right ear too but no issue with my left. My hearing is above average for my age apparently as checked every 2 yrs thru my work. GP stated my ears looked fine. I recently started to snore more than i used to...........not that i ever hear it but the elbow in my ribs tells me i definitely snore. Just wondering now if the recent ringing in my ears is something similar.

Always one of my favs to play if the band is really into it. Think i had the bass tab for that somewhere and agree the bass behind the solo is nice to play. Dave -
First time i saw a Sabre bass was the bass player from King on TOTP's back in the day. The give away back then was the headstock with 3 tuners on top and one on bottom. MM were the only company doing that back then as far as i know. Dave

I think its a Musicman Sabre. He had that on a stand when i saw him in 80's altho he used the Jaydee all night if i remember right. Close up of the bass at 1:27hrs. Think i might still have the concert programme Dave

This was what he was using when i saw him with The Firm
-
First saw Tony with a band called The Firm with Jimmy page and was very impressed by him. Crackin sound back then but i'm sure he was using Jaydee basses. I've also bought albums he's played on like Blue Murder. He has a lot of demo vids on youtube too. Very talented altho he does come across as a "bit forward". Famous for his playing rock music with his fretless P basses over the years tho. Not heard this particular bass i'm afraid. Dave

SOLD*now £450*Mesa Boogie m-pulse 600
dmccombe7 replied to spencer.b's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Well done Steve. Think if Spencer had been willing to post i would have bought it months ago but i can appreciate and understand his concerns and i'm much the same to be honest with electronic gear. I was lucky that i managed to buy another one for a great price and its by far the best amp i've ever owned in 40yrs and wish i had gone down this route years ago. I can see why people remain with Mesa gear. The quality is superb and the tone is absolute heaven for me. And again many thanks for your advice and help Steve and if i need a back up i know who to contact now. Dave -
A lot of drummers used headphones back then when playing to click tracks incl Neil Peart so its not that uncommon altho these days its probably IEM that are used most. Dave
-
Came across this but sorry about the VID clip itself.
-
Sorry to read about this Bill. I'm afraid i can't helpwith the headphones question but hope some others will be able to offer a way for you to continue with a lifelong passion. Wish you all the very best and i'll be following to see how you get on. Dave

I usually get :- we can get you to play at our bike rally free of charge cause you'll be there anyway (band are not bikers at all so its gonna be a bit boring with just me playing tho) Could you play my birthday party - mates rates. .......... They get upset when i say the band doesn't know you !!! My son / daughter has just bought a bass.......any tips ? ........... Yes take professional lessons to get the basics and then simply practice a lot. To be fair most of my freinds are either bikers or musicians of some kind so the conversation is nearly always one of those topics. Dave -
Emergency Exit - a female fronted punk covers band at our Harley Rally in Aviemore this year. I'm not generally a punk music fan but these guys were so good with so much energy in the songs. Its amazing how many punk songs i remembered liking back in late 70's / 80's And i was stone cold sober too so no excuses. Dave

I met him at one of the Bass bashes when he was sitting with Chris from Overwater and he was very approachable. I have no issues with the guy at all. He's helpful when asked and i've picked up a few helpful tips from his free VID clips and he knows his stuff inside out. Dave

Mines has the active circuit (Precision deluxe model MIM) so is seperating the pick ups an option with an active circuit so that i can get that P sound Dave
-
Its certainly putting me in the mood for another P bass as i find the Fender P/J just doesn't do a proper P bass sound no matter what i do with the EQ, pan settings or Passive setting. Nothing sounds quite like a P bass and i'm a Jazz man myself so i don't know what's going on there. Dave
-
Tuner, either Korg rackmount or TC Polytune.
-
My Warwick Thumb NT is the same. Need to tune it every day i play it. Its hung on a wall hanger in bas cave with a reasonably stable house temperature whereas my Jazz bass or my Overwaters remain in tune most days. Dave

Can i live there

Are you sure Ped. ??? I reckon its the main reason i've never been a hugely successful session bassist.
