  1. I'll hold off my order for a couple of weeks to make sure i get the full package all at once. Dave
  2. I've just read the full thread and there are some great ideas for attaching to strap that i'm going to buy as well Dave
  3. I would have thought it was less hassle with a wireless. I'll be looking at mounting the receiver in my rack somehow but will experiment with it to see what works best. The TX i'll mount on my strap somehow so its just a matter of plugging into whatever bass i'm using. Dave
  4. Really appreciate the offer Dave but with it being a Xmas pressie from my wife to me i'd rather go for a new one. She was struggling what to get me and this was going to make a good option for her. Any other time of the year i would probably have taken you up on it. Pretty sure it will sel easily on BC. Dave
  5. This is all interesting info and will help me decide which to go for so please keep sharing your own thoughts. Dave
  6. In reality do you notice any delay at all. I can't personally imagine hearing 8ms delay to be honest
  7. So the latency thing would be same as me walking out 10-15 feet with a lead and hearing a delay. I've done that with cables and i haven't really noticed anything. My cables are 4m from bass to pedals (Aphex compressor and polytune OR Roland GT6B and back to amp with another 4m cable. I normally move from front of amp to approx 2-3m out depending on style of band i'm in. I've just bought a Mesa head with in-built comp and i have a Korg rack tuner so wireless means no cables and no requirement for pedals with my new set up. The Smooth Hound i think has a 5ms option you can select ? would need to confirm that. I'm guessing that would reduce range. Dave
  8. Looking into wireless for Xmas and Smooth Hound comes out one of the better ones altho other threads have mentioned the 8ms latency being noticable compared to other units. I haven't read the full thread but the first page Chris from Smooth Hound provided a great explanation on it. Think the other wireless i'm looking at is the new Boss WL20 but i'm not sure i like the USB charging thing to be honest. I also like the various very positive comments on Customer Service from Smooth Hound Dave
  9. Just came across another BC thread from 2015 where Dood was revieing the Smooth Hound and Chris from Smooth Hound said the latency of 8ms was no worse than standing 8 feet away from your cab. Here is the exact reply :- "Well, the exact latency is 7.68ms so 8ms is a little bit conservative! A quick point about latency, sound travels in air at around 1 foot per millisecond so adding 8ms latency is the same as standing 8 feet farther away from your amplifier. Whether you're playing bass or lead doesn't really make any difference, it's all about the attack. I appreciate the latency figure is not the lowest around and as EBS freak says, if you need to add a lot of additional latency (eg chain a bunch of digital effects and monitor through a digital desk) you could get to the point that it is noticeable. All the comments we've had so far on latency though have been positive. People keep saying things like "No latency" which isn't strictly true! Here's the link to the full thread :-
  10. I can't imagine noticing that, even at 8ms. I ned to find out a lot more about this latency issue as i never gave that a thought to be honest. I'll maybe ask our guitarist to bring his Line G30 in to try it at rehearsals
  11. When you talk about latency its the time delay between hitting the note and hearing it i'm guessing here. That being the case does that get worse the further away you are from the receiver or is it a fixed figure. Is it that noticeable at even 8ms Dave
  12. Its such a gorgeous bass its gotta be worth the repair cost. It will come back like new so well worth it IMO Its one of those basses i'd never sell. A keeper. Dave
  13. Great news. Hopefully things are picking up for you now and with Xmas coming it can only get better. All the very best sir. Dave
  14. Is the USB charging not a bit of a nuisance tho. Can you replace the batteries just in case you forget to charge them before a gig I have a mains slot on back of my amp rack so the Smooth Hound having a mains charge isn't too much of a problem. Do you get any interference on either of them ? Dave
  15. Thanks Paul Our guitarist has the G10 and he said it worked well but was very flimsy and cheaply made. At the moment i'm leaning towards the Smooth Hound as i've not seen any negatives about it anywhere. Dave
  16. I'm thinking of going wireless too and had been looking at Smooth Hound but there are a few others mentioned on here like the Boss WL20 which interest me too. Would value opinions on their own wireless systems. Quote an approx price for yours would be handy too Should i start a new thread or is the OP ok with this request included in his own thread. Dave
  17. Ha Ha only just but Croatia is a bit far to drive for a meet up i'm afraid. Sorry about that Dave
  18. I think good reliable gear is helpful for on stage sound. I've used backlines that to me are not great but at the end of the day FOH sound was first class. Amp was DI'd. I've gone thru various gear and thought it was good. I recently took my Mesa Mpulse and PH212 cab into studio and the full band commented on how full sounding it was compared to the studio Aguilar SC500 head and 810 cab or their EBS head and 810 cab. Sound was very warm, rounded and just so nice. I find i play better and get into the songs more if my own sound is exactly what i like and want to hear. I'm more interested in having good reliable gear night after night that i don't need to worry about. That's why i soid my Ampeg SVT4 because of poor reliabilty altho i liked the tone from it.
  19. Is he quitting because of the migraines. ? or has he simply had enough of gigging or playing ? If its only because of the migraine thing it might be worth loking into what's causing them and see if its possible to reduce them. Maybe that's been done and its simply a stress thing for him I find if i don't drink enough water or i have too much coffee in one day i start getting migraines. As long as i drink at least 1 litre of water a day i'm fine. I switched to decaf coffee as well. I occasionally get them triggered when driving in bright sunlight and maybe a direct reflection from something catches my eye and just triggers the vision impairment (i see distortions around the edges of my vision) In bright sunlight i wear sunglasses when driving. It seems worse in winter sunlight for some reason. I'm retired now as well so i have no work related stress which triggered them very regularly almost weekly. Now i have one maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Dave
  20. 2 singers auditioning in a 2 hr rehearsal slot might run into probs if 1st one is a bit late and 2nd one a bit early. Be upfront with them all on how many are being auditioned. I turned up early as i always do for a bass audition. I was 4th bassist in a 3 hr slot. 1st guy was done and dusted, 2nd guy was late holding things up so he was just finishing his last song when i turned up and the 3rd guy was on before me. I was asked to wait in the kitchen, gave me a chance to hear the competition. I took the best bits from them and combined with what i was planning to do so i knew exactly what would work. I got offered the job after about 2 weeks. Had it been 2 singers in 3 hr slot i would have said ok. Normally its word of mouth for me these days but most auditions i've done over the years i've been the bassist for the full rehearsal and asked to learn 3 or 4 songs. I always learn few more and we run thru them. Then gives you time to relax a bit with the band and see how you get on. I'm not a fan of the half hour slot, come in set up, play, get out and we'll let you know. The example above i was last bassist that night and i ended up jamming some other songs with the band as we got on really well. I'm afraid i've never been involved in auditioning a singer so not sure if that makes a difference or not ? Dave
  21. Very nice. Like that colour. Now that Suhr has been mentioned it i recognise it as one of guitarists i know has the Suhr strat and he loves it too. Dave
  22. Glad i read this as i have never given that a thought before. I've always used either 4 or 8 ohm loads. Dave
