  1. First time i've heard of an amp that doesn't do 8ohm. Just checked the manual on the Mesa Mpulse 600 i just bought and manual states 2 or 4 ohm will give 600W but paragraph on it states it they add it will run at half power 300W on an 8 ohm cab. I'm running it with a Mesa 8 ohm PH212 so decided to check the back of the amp and it says minimum 4 ohm so i'm assuming 8 is ok ? Dave
  2. That's a nice looking bass. What is it ? Couldn't make the name out Dave
  3. Sold my Markbass CMD 121P Combo to Roger. Great communication. Very easy to deal with. Comes across as a very likeable guy on the phone too. Absolutely no hassle whatsoever bought the combo in the afternoon and he had it the following morning after we agreed shipping details. Pleasure dealing with you Roger and hope you enjoy the amp. All the very best and many thanks for buying. Dave
  4. That's more or less what i said in my letter to them back in 89
  5. My experience with Warwick dates back to when i bought my Thumb NT from them in 1989. Within few weeks i was getting a popping noise every now and again when playing. Bass went back to Local shop in Glasgow. They sent to Moon guitars in Glasgow but found the fault was control module which was a sealed or encapsulated unit. Bass was sent back to Warwick and they replaced the module. I made an official complaint to Warwick by letter in those days. Bass was returned via the shop but within few days a box arrived full of various goodies including a hooded sweatshirt, 3 packs of Elite strings, posters, beer mats and various other small items plus a very apologetic letter in broken English. I was quite taken aback but was hugely impressed by their service back then. Same bass again had an electronic clicking noise about 3 yrs ago. Local luthier nailed it down to the same module. Contacted warwick for replacement which arrived within 2-3 days from Germany. Luthier installed new control module and all sorted again. Great service Dave
  6. Players that impress me most come from all styles. Geddy Lee fingerstyle, Alain Caron slap and fingerstyle, Michael Manring and Steve Lawson on finger picking styles and Glenn Hughes and John Wetton pick style but there are so mnay from each style i could list. I guess i'm with others that said "If it sounds good, its good". Doesn't matter to me how they achieve that impressive bass line. I play mostly fingerstyle. I do a little slap and i use my index finger as a pick on occasion and i'll use finger picking style for fun on my own. Dave
  7. You should have asked for a van plus hire car at their cost to allow transit of gear and band. That's what your original boking was for. We have a local company that do Splitter vans in couple of sizes but they wouldn't cover your area i'm afraid. Dave
  8. I better read the manual then. What exactly do you mean. I've always assumed with everything at 12 o'clock it was flat. Am i missing something. I did quickly run thru the manual but in all fairness it was more a quick glance to see what everything was and did. Dave
  9. I may have split but not keen on posting. Where are you Roger ?
  10. Still here guys. Virtually new hardly used. Great for any gig.
  11. Great rig for a mere fraction of what you'd pay new. Full range rock rig for a mere £600.
  12. I'm not and never was that much of a fan that i'd have noticed those items. I have always thought they were a fantastic powerful live band that knew how to entertain an audience. The Live Aid gig chnaged my perception of them to be fair. I bought their greatest hits 3 CD album many years after Freddie passed away because they had some great songs but i thought they had some pretty aweful songs that i just didn't like and some of them were huge hits for the band so what do i know I'm still gonna buy the DVD when it comes out tho. For posterity of course. Dave
  13. Think you might need to change the heading on this thread to :- Not a BAD word about the Queen movie
  14. I've always done the same to be fair. On a few occasions the FOH said the bass sounded good as it was and no need for PA support and that was with a Markbass rig. Dave
  15. Agree and an audience also affects the sound of the bass too unlike a rehearsal where its just a few band members. Even the soundcheck can be an empty hall but the FOH guy will / should account for that difference. Many of the good PA hire companies retain your settings for that venue on laptop with digital desks these days. Instant recall next time you use them at that gig saves a lot of time.
  16. New amp and cab set up at home with bass slightly boosted, Mid cut back and Treble flat. I am fortunate that i can play louder at home if i want (no direct neighbours) but the bass cave is a very small room only 2.8m x 2.6m Took to 1st rehearsal in a fairly large rehearsal studio (approx 12m x 6m i think) and with master volume up just one notch ie from 9 at home to 10 o'clock at rehearsal. I had to bring bass back to flat 12 o'clock and bring the mids back up to flat as well which highlights the difference room size can make. Wouldn't say the amp or cab was being pushed a lot more but the room size did make quite a difference. Dave
  17. WOW what an interesting thread. Great find. Dave
  18. Well that was the new rigs first outing at a band rehearsal today. Left the settings as they were at home with parametric OFF, Bass at 1 o'clock, Mid at 11 o'clock and Treble at 12. Compressor just on when playing harder. Gain at 1 o'clock and Master Volume at 9 o'clock. Cab is 8ohm PH212 so amp only putting out 300W but that was far more than i needed. At rehearsal with a full band with gtr and keys playing Glam covers Master Volume up to 10 o'clock. Found the mids not cutting thru so brought that back to 12 and had to cut the bass back a touch too. Ended up everything running flat. Switched in the Parametrics and cut the 30Hz point from mid point at 12 o'clock down to 11 and WOW what a tone. The bass was full with lots of depth and my Jazz still had some nice mids altho i might add a touch more mid next time just to see how that sounds. All in all i think this is the sound i've been looking for and i came home still beaming about my tone. Tubiness warmth and depth. Not boomy but just nice and rounded. Suits the type of music i'm playing in my current band of 70's Glam covers. Able to load and unload my gear on my own altho 2 man lift on the cab is a bit easier. Got my cab cover from Hotcovers couple of days ago and its perfect. Fantastic quality at a great price. Think this will be my Gigging rig for this band. GAS has gone...........for now anyway. Dave
  19. Quite a few of my mates have seen it and they were very impressed by it. They are Queen fans and trying to emulate Freddie aint no easy task for any actor. I'll wait till the DVD comes out and watch it in comfort of my own home. Dave
  20. That's the only time i notice anything is when i have a cold or sinus issues sometimes caused by allergies. Don't know if that's classed as Tinnitus Dave
  21. Defenitely gone of thread now. Maybe we should bring it back to the original question. Dave
  22. Loving that sparkly Rik copy. That would look cool in my Glam Rock covers band.
