  1. Don't think FB take anything to do with it. That's always been my impression and why i always take additional precautions before buying. Cash is king too and a bit of research on the item and the person selling is always a good idea. Never buy without seeing or trying unless you know the person. I quite fancied the idea of owning an Alembic but they are out of my price range even at this low price. Dave
  2. Its not something we do in our bands. Drummer owns the PA and majority of the lights. If we need to use the full PA with subs we need to hire a van and probably a sound guy but at the moment we use our backline with only vocals and bass drum thru the PA. In some venues with a supplied PA we all go thru it. My bass rig is loud enough to do most venues to be honest but i do find we get a bigger sound thru a PA. Not so much louder but more evenly spread around the venue. Lot of people have commented that we sound like how they remembered bands back in the late 60's early 70's so we're keen to try and keep it sounding like that. Not sure if that's down to us using backline rather than thru PA or its just "our sound". The full PA 2 off each cabs 2-way 12's, 3-way 15's and 18" subs all QSC with Allan & Heath digital desks. Dave
  3. Now i'm curious what the absurd ideas were Dave
  4. Altho i've posted the more odd ones earlier here are a few other reasons from my younger days :- Guitarist didn't turn up for our first gig. No phone call beforehand. Over-indulgence in whacky backy by singer and drummer at rehearsals causing guitarist to get pissed off and pack it in after 1st gig which was a great success. Bit of a shame that one. Great band too. Guitarist making more money doing PA hire during the Rave peak era and band fell away. I did help with PA hire and it was good money LOL More inexperienced guitarist in the band decided to take a gig in his village but wanted to change the full set from classic rock to pop rock with only a couple of months to go. I said i would do the gig but was leaving directly afterwards as i wasn't prepared to change full sets to suit different venues. I only agreed to join because they were doing classic rock covers. Guitarist didn't want to gig. Only found out after about a year of rehearsals and our one and only gig. Guitarist / songwriter in a Prog originals band didn't want to gig altho we did do a few studio rehearsals but he came out with it after about 6mths. Another Prog originals band we just couldn't find other musicians to play the songs. The songwriter just wanted to play the songs with his weird noises thru it rather than some of the excellent vocal tracks he had written. Eventually i left too. WOW its amazing how many i can remember Dave
  5. First time in Shotts Bon Accord Club last night with Glam covers band. 175 tickets sold. Decent sized venue with a large stage that was quite high at chest height. No chance of fans clambering onto the stage to tear of my clothes. To be fair that doesn't happen at gigs without stages but its nice to dream of younger days. Dancers from about the 2nd song in, lots of phones taking vids, lots of ladies in Glam gear which is always nice to see. Bus load came over from another club we played and told us they would be following us around the local gigs we do which was fantastic news. We had a wonderful female singer doing a support slot for us and we invited her up for our last song, an extended version of Shang-a-Lang with a bit of Scottish themed intro to the BCR bass and drums. Always fills the floor and gets a fantastic reception as our encore. Committee guy at the end said the feedback was some of the best he'd had about any act in the club so that was good as at times they weren't the most enthusiastic sounding audience we've had but whenever the singers ask if we are doing alright so far it was a rapturous applause and cheering. Weird. They're looking to get us re-booked possibly around Xmas but we only have one free night available so here's hoping. No pics as yet. Dave
  6. Our guitarist aways uses a V. Ex-Royal Marine instructor so he might have a weapon hidden away somewhere just in case war breaks out. Dave
  7. I'm with you on that Daryl. I think my current band has lasted so long because we aren't mates as such. We all get along really well and we keep in touch thru FB but we only meet up for gigs and rehearsals and we have a great laugh. Now going on 6 years with the Glam band. Not sure if its down to being less volatile with the coming of age or the fact we all live quite far apart from each other and socialising isn't really practical. Dave
  8. Definitely a theme going on. Guitarists, drummers and singers mostly to blame with occasional keys player but never the bass players at fault. I guess that's because bass players are always the nice people in a band. Dave
  9. Jings Steve you lead an exciting lifestyle, living on the edge with murderers. Anything else you haven't told us about that we should know. Dave
  10. If anyone had done that in my house or car they would be attending their own funeral. Disgusting a**h**e. Hanging too good for people like that, string them up by their bits. I'm stunned that someone thought that was ok to do. Dave
  11. IS there much difference between the 4003 & 4003s other than the neck inlays and the stereo output. Do they feel the same to play ? Dave
  12. WOW no way i can compete with the above reasons. Mine was guitarist and keys player coming to blows at a rehearsal. I packed up, walked out and left them to it. They all lived in a very rough area of Glasgow. Was a great band too doing "Friends of Deep Purple" covering anything DP or linked to DP incl Rainbow, Glenn Hughes, Sabbath, Whitesnake. Was really enjoying it up to that point but i could see it developing at rehearsals. For the life of me i can't even remember what it was all about. Another was guitarist/singer broke the band up because he was jealous that i was getting more attention from female fans than he was. That was an odd one as i was always quite shy on stage and not someone that took front of stage easily let alone centre stage. Afraid that's the best i have to offer. Dave
  13. No different from me seeing an advert in England. I would always go try a bass before buying, especially at that kind of price. Dave
  14. Looks like an amazing price for one of these. http://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/925847782316867/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_top_picks&referral_story_type=top_picks
  15. Positive attitude. That's the way to go. Dave
  16. I've ended up with Elixir nickels and now have them on 4 of my basses. First set i tried lasted 7 mths before i noticed they were starting to fade a bit in tone but i reckon i could have managed another month. The bass is the one i use the most and has had a lot of sweaty glam rock nights since fitting. I had Elixirs on my Warwick Thumb and they've been on that bass since 2010 and they still sound ok but that bass is rarely used and never leaves the house these days except for the odd studio visit. At the moment i'm quite happy with them and they don't seem to have the higher tension i remembered from their early days when they first appeared. At £50 quid a set they do last well and at 7 mths i would be on my 3rd set of D'addario nickels ready to go for my 4th set soon. Dave
  17. Good quality cable too but cable damage can happen to the best of them. I'm still hoping its a simple fix for you. All the best Dave
  18. Oooohhhhh you've convinced me. I want one too. Dave
  19. Out of curiosity what speaker cables are you using ? If the speaker cable is ok and its still happening it could be the jack socket in the cab. Does it have a double jack socket on the cab. If still happening try the other jack socket see if its ok. Failing that its down to the speakers i reckon. My next step would be remove the speakers or if you have access to them from the back of the cab to check the soldered connections on the speakers themselves. If all that is checked and seems ok then you may have to take the cab to a repair shop to do some in proper checks of the cab. Dave
  20. Ah sorry my mistook. Could be worth opening the jack to see if cables are all securely attached and soldered joints are ok. Failing that maybe the jack socket on the cab has dodgy contacts ? Just throwing ideas into the pot see what comes out 👍 Dave
  21. Open up the speakon connectors and tighten up the terminal screws. I've had this with PA speakon leads. A loose connection screw on a cable could open circuit with vibration. I know we should all routinely check our cables but we don't Let us know what you find. Curious now. Dave
  22. Out of curiosity what actually happened with the amp/cab when it failed. What were the symptoms. Might help us BC'ers to advise where to look. I bought the tester from Amazon yrs ago. Works off a 9V battery but the battery lasts for well over a year as its not something you will use much until a cable fails. Here's the new version of mine with added computer cable testing by looks of it at £61. 23. I find cables are usually the first port of call when things happen or don't happen 👍 Hopefully that will be the issue. I bought a cable tester few yrs back where you plug both ends in and it detects the fault for you. Does jack, xlr and speakon. Handy bit of kit. To be honest i have an electronics / electrical background and happy with my trusty old multi-meter. Dave
