used to be that recordings were slowed or sped up to fit a 4min radio slot but not sure that's still applicable these days. Many chart bands had that done back in the days before software and Apps could adjust it for you. Dave

Done. Only just found the page so hopefully this helps a little. Makes me feel good to be part of something like this. Well done to all our fellow Basschatters that offered some support. Dave

Metal to me meant Budgie and from there on it turned into Iron Maiden style and then morphed into Metallica altho that might be termed Thrash Metal but i've kinda lost touch with the more "modern" terminology for what would have just been Heavy Rock back in late 70's. Even very early Rush albums before 2112 i would class as Heavy Rock but that was before Heavy Metal appeared on the scene ? I would be interested in what the OP regards as Metal as he is a lot younger than me by many many years. Dave

My original Warwick Thumb 89 came with 3 sets of Elite strings. I've tried the Warwick red labels on my Jazz bass but preferred the Fender nickels altho i've sinc went to D'addarios and then DR's and now back to D'addarios again. The Warwick strings just didn't last too long for me before the tone went and i found them a bit more coarse on the fingers than other strings i had been using so i'm not really a fan. Dave

Michael Manring has to be up there at the top but Eric Czar playing Sonata i really enjoy. Just realised its Best Fretless album. Sorry but its a nice wee 2 min song.

Appreciated and fully understand where you are coming from Blue Dave

Think we've discussed this before Blue. We are in completely different scenarios. Also think there are many people on BC that the money plays an important part in being in a band. As long as i'm having fun and enjoying what i'm doing i'm happy. That's my priority in any band however if the band doesn't eventually gig i get bored very quickly because there's no end game and when you having nothing to aim for there's no challenge in it for me and i move on to another band. Eventually i'll run out of bands but at the moment i get asked quite a lot. Currently doing bass on an EP recording for a band which came out of the Blue (see what i did there ) So at the moment i'm relatively happy. I would like the band to be moving a little quicker than it is but i agreed i would accept the various time delays from the outset. Dave

Have to say i think i would have found something else many moons ago under those circumstances. No need to fall out with others over bands where each have different ideas of what they want from the band. They all need to be upfront and honest and state clearly from the outset what they want out of it. There are plenty of bands out there looking for committed bass players so get out and about and see what suits you. Its not easy meeting new bands with strangers but most are good people and just want what you want. Hopefully you'll find the right band with the right people and it will all fall into place. I must be one of the few on here that quite enjoys the rehearsal stage. My absolute limit with any band is usually a year and if not gigging by then its a waste of time. Many of the bands i've been in are guys with demanding jobs and some with young families and they have more urgent commitments. If i'm enjoying the rehearsals with obvious and continued improvements at every rehearsal then i enjoy that and that's when i'll allow up to the year but i def have to be thoroughly enjoying the band and know that they will be great live and pull an audience. I've done the band thing where i've learned full sets in 2-3 weeks. That's not an enjoyable experience for me especially if i've never played or even heard the songs before. Typically and on average i would say 6mths is about right for me with any decent band that plays to perfection before gigging. I'm not happy playing songs i don't know inside out. I need to be at the point where i'm relaxed and comfortable with the bass parts. Current band i expect to take a year as we all had other projects on the go and have been slotting in rehearsals to suit everyone's schedules. I knew that upfront but its a type of band i always wanted to be in (Glam Rock) so i'm happy with that. Dave

That was nice. Enjoyed that one.

Gino Vannelli album title track Brother to Brother featuring Jimmy Haslip on bass. Love the bass tone and the technique is phenomenal on this one. The musicianship throughout this particular album is 2nd to none. More recent bassist Sandin Wilson who also plays 6 string bass these days does a fantastic version of this song too.

Much the same here. No rehearsals since 24th June until 29th July due to other commitments but we decided to learn 4 or 5 new songs. Start up band so still putting set together. Dave

Curious as to what is in your rack and what the bottom cab is. Guessing an Ampeg cab of some kind ? Dave

Have to say i've had or seen a few unpleasant comments or exchanges on BC, but over the past couple of years its been far better and i think the Moderators have kept a far tighter control of things. The end up of that is a much more tolerant and approachable forum. Can't say i've seen anything at all in recent years. Its interesting, informative and supportive in many areas of life, not just bass related so all in all VERY WELL DONE. Dave

So you like Vigier basses then

From what i can find on Wiki Antoria was originally produced by German company Framus and later in 70's started to import guitars from Japan which were produced in same factory as Ibanez. In 80's the brand was purchased by John Lawson altho i'm not sure where they were based in 80's from then but in 2010 they were owned by Tim Gentle Music of Stockton on Tees and that's maybe why you assume they were always a UK company That's why i assumed it was a Japanese bass as i had seen them when they first appeared on the scene in late 70's. There were a number of Japanese companies producing some great Fender copies back in the late 70's / early 80's incl Tokai and Squier Dave

TBH when you mentioned Burns Bison i thought it was one too so you're not the only one that was fooled by it. Nice bass tho. Dave
-
I remember the Antoria basses now that you mention it and from memory they were regarded as one of the better of the "Jap" manufacturers at the time. Really nice basses and well made. Nice to see one again. Its a keeper so don't sell it. Dave

Need to stop following this thread. I'm starting to realize i'm getting a severe bout of GAS.

Nice. Liking that shape. How does it feel to play. Same as a Fender J or is there much of a difference.
-
Bet that sounds nice. Love those Vigier basses and the Darkglass amp sounds nice. Not heard it thru a Darkglass cab live tho
-
What's the bass ?
-
Like those Status basses. Very nice.

Cheers and not a bad wee set up for your bass cave. Like you i gave up moving South on a "maybe" chance in a rock band in 80's because i had a well paid enjoyable (at that time) job and wouldn't give up for a slight chnace of a deal which all fell thru so it was the right decision for me too And again like you i can now enjoy bass mch more than ever before. Dave

What you got sitting under the red speaker. Looks like 2 of them. Just curious. Dave
