  1. Is the USB charging not a bit of a nuisance tho. Can you replace the batteries just in case you forget to charge them before a gig I have a mains slot on back of my amp rack so the Smooth Hound having a mains charge isn't too much of a problem. Do you get any interference on either of them ? Dave
  2. Thanks Paul Our guitarist has the G10 and he said it worked well but was very flimsy and cheaply made. At the moment i'm leaning towards the Smooth Hound as i've not seen any negatives about it anywhere. Dave
  3. I'm thinking of going wireless too and had been looking at Smooth Hound but there are a few others mentioned on here like the Boss WL20 which interest me too. Would value opinions on their own wireless systems. Quote an approx price for yours would be handy too Should i start a new thread or is the OP ok with this request included in his own thread. Dave
  4. Ha Ha only just but Croatia is a bit far to drive for a meet up i'm afraid. Sorry about that Dave
  5. BUMP for a great all round bass rig
  6. I think good reliable gear is helpful for on stage sound. I've used backlines that to me are not great but at the end of the day FOH sound was first class. Amp was DI'd. I've gone thru various gear and thought it was good. I recently took my Mesa Mpulse and PH212 cab into studio and the full band commented on how full sounding it was compared to the studio Aguilar SC500 head and 810 cab or their EBS head and 810 cab. Sound was very warm, rounded and just so nice. I find i play better and get into the songs more if my own sound is exactly what i like and want to hear. I'm more interested in having good reliable gear night after night that i don't need to worry about. That's why i soid my Ampeg SVT4 because of poor reliabilty altho i liked the tone from it.
  7. Is he quitting because of the migraines. ? or has he simply had enough of gigging or playing ? If its only because of the migraine thing it might be worth loking into what's causing them and see if its possible to reduce them. Maybe that's been done and its simply a stress thing for him I find if i don't drink enough water or i have too much coffee in one day i start getting migraines. As long as i drink at least 1 litre of water a day i'm fine. I switched to decaf coffee as well. I occasionally get them triggered when driving in bright sunlight and maybe a direct reflection from something catches my eye and just triggers the vision impairment (i see distortions around the edges of my vision) In bright sunlight i wear sunglasses when driving. It seems worse in winter sunlight for some reason. I'm retired now as well so i have no work related stress which triggered them very regularly almost weekly. Now i have one maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Dave
  8. 2 singers auditioning in a 2 hr rehearsal slot might run into probs if 1st one is a bit late and 2nd one a bit early. Be upfront with them all on how many are being auditioned. I turned up early as i always do for a bass audition. I was 4th bassist in a 3 hr slot. 1st guy was done and dusted, 2nd guy was late holding things up so he was just finishing his last song when i turned up and the 3rd guy was on before me. I was asked to wait in the kitchen, gave me a chance to hear the competition. I took the best bits from them and combined with what i was planning to do so i knew exactly what would work. I got offered the job after about 2 weeks. Had it been 2 singers in 3 hr slot i would have said ok. Normally its word of mouth for me these days but most auditions i've done over the years i've been the bassist for the full rehearsal and asked to learn 3 or 4 songs. I always learn few more and we run thru them. Then gives you time to relax a bit with the band and see how you get on. I'm not a fan of the half hour slot, come in set up, play, get out and we'll let you know. The example above i was last bassist that night and i ended up jamming some other songs with the band as we got on really well. I'm afraid i've never been involved in auditioning a singer so not sure if that makes a difference or not ? Dave
  9. Very nice. Like that colour. Now that Suhr has been mentioned it i recognise it as one of guitarists i know has the Suhr strat and he loves it too. Dave
  10. Glad i read this as i have never given that a thought before. I've always used either 4 or 8 ohm loads. Dave
  11. First time i've heard of an amp that doesn't do 8ohm. Just checked the manual on the Mesa Mpulse 600 i just bought and manual states 2 or 4 ohm will give 600W but paragraph on it states it they add it will run at half power 300W on an 8 ohm cab. I'm running it with a Mesa 8 ohm PH212 so decided to check the back of the amp and it says minimum 4 ohm so i'm assuming 8 is ok ? Dave
  12. That's a nice looking bass. What is it ? Couldn't make the name out Dave
  13. Sold my Markbass CMD 121P Combo to Roger. Great communication. Very easy to deal with. Comes across as a very likeable guy on the phone too. Absolutely no hassle whatsoever bought the combo in the afternoon and he had it the following morning after we agreed shipping details. Pleasure dealing with you Roger and hope you enjoy the amp. All the very best and many thanks for buying. Dave
  14. That's more or less what i said in my letter to them back in 89
  15. My experience with Warwick dates back to when i bought my Thumb NT from them in 1989. Within few weeks i was getting a popping noise every now and again when playing. Bass went back to Local shop in Glasgow. They sent to Moon guitars in Glasgow but found the fault was control module which was a sealed or encapsulated unit. Bass was sent back to Warwick and they replaced the module. I made an official complaint to Warwick by letter in those days. Bass was returned via the shop but within few days a box arrived full of various goodies including a hooded sweatshirt, 3 packs of Elite strings, posters, beer mats and various other small items plus a very apologetic letter in broken English. I was quite taken aback but was hugely impressed by their service back then. Same bass again had an electronic clicking noise about 3 yrs ago. Local luthier nailed it down to the same module. Contacted warwick for replacement which arrived within 2-3 days from Germany. Luthier installed new control module and all sorted again. Great service Dave
  16. Players that impress me most come from all styles. Geddy Lee fingerstyle, Alain Caron slap and fingerstyle, Michael Manring and Steve Lawson on finger picking styles and Glenn Hughes and John Wetton pick style but there are so mnay from each style i could list. I guess i'm with others that said "If it sounds good, its good". Doesn't matter to me how they achieve that impressive bass line. I play mostly fingerstyle. I do a little slap and i use my index finger as a pick on occasion and i'll use finger picking style for fun on my own. Dave
  17. You should have asked for a van plus hire car at their cost to allow transit of gear and band. That's what your original boking was for. We have a local company that do Splitter vans in couple of sizes but they wouldn't cover your area i'm afraid. Dave
  18. Combo now sold. Ext cab NY121 still available at £325
  19. I better read the manual then. What exactly do you mean. I've always assumed with everything at 12 o'clock it was flat. Am i missing something. I did quickly run thru the manual but in all fairness it was more a quick glance to see what everything was and did. Dave
  20. I may have split but not keen on posting. Where are you Roger ?
  21. Still here guys. Virtually new hardly used. Great for any gig.
  22. Great rig for a mere fraction of what you'd pay new. Full range rock rig for a mere £600.
  23. I'm not and never was that much of a fan that i'd have noticed those items. I have always thought they were a fantastic powerful live band that knew how to entertain an audience. The Live Aid gig chnaged my perception of them to be fair. I bought their greatest hits 3 CD album many years after Freddie passed away because they had some great songs but i thought they had some pretty aweful songs that i just didn't like and some of them were huge hits for the band so what do i know I'm still gonna buy the DVD when it comes out tho. For posterity of course. Dave
