  1. Happy belated birthday Graham. Hope you had a great day.
  2. Oddly enough i do see it as a plus and never a negative. Not sure my wife shares my opinion as we normally go out for dinner but as you say .......never on your wife's birthday Dave
  3. Rehearsals tonight 9-12pm .......on my birthday. Is that not dedication for you. Anyone else shown extreme dedication to their band. Lets hear your stories. Dave
  4. Me twa. and bl**min great reads too. plus its nice to support a fellow BC'er in his other projects. Dave
  5. NO, NO, NO, NO, NO you don't ........come on you need to tell us all whats going on. No secrets on BC please. You've got us all curious now. Well me anyway cause i'm basically a nosey auld git with nothing better to do with my time Dave
  6. I'm not one for taking risks especially when its a lot of money involved. I usually keep the expensive basses i buy unless i have absolutely no use for it. Dave
  7. Not sure as i don't know who he is. Not keen on a signature bass unless i'm a fan of the person. but i'd certainly have a look.
  8. By the time i add on shipping at over £200 and then 20% tax etc it would take over my budget and for a bass i've never had any experience with i just think is too much of a risk for me. At the end of the day i can get access to the Fender range quite easily and locally. Same with Sandberg range at Guitar Guitar. Dave
  9. Sandberg basses i've tried and was really impressed with build quality and feel so i would def consider one but i do like the Fender i posted above.
  10. What do you add on for import tax etc. I'd hate to import one and find i don't like it.
  11. Not really looked at G&L basses and you never see them up here in Scotland so its hard to comment on their quality and playability. Dave
  12. Yep Steve mentioned it earlier but i'm not keen on colour. I've got a thing for the white with maple neck.
  13. had a wee look Steve but not so keen on the colour..
  14. Oddly enough its the A string on my Precision deluxe that's weaker in volume when on full P pick up. It balances out more when its set 50:50. I've had to tilt the A string side of the pick up down a bit compared to the E or even the D%G string sides. Also wasn't aware the 70's basses with maple necks were only black and natural. That's interesting wee fact as well. I have a notion for the white with maple neck and there are modern versions in their range i think they are the American original 50's like this and this is the bass i'l hopefully try first. I'll take the finger rest off as it will get in my way but that's a trivial issue. Have to say i really like the look of this but will depend on how it feels and sounds. I'll make sure i check that out on any i try tho. Good point to remember.
  15. I've seen quite a lot of people mention Limelight basses so might give them another look. Dave
  16. and me
  17. Out of curiosity what does the FSR stand for ? Like that bass, very nice. Dave
  18. Mates son works in GAK so i always get a great deal on their gear but i'm never able to try the specific bass out. Not a fan of the reliced or roadworn basses. Paying that amount of money i want the bass to look new. Dave
  19. Quite liking that.
  20. Tried a Lakland few yrs back and thought the neck didn't quite feel right. It was a J version but the neck felt rigid and heavy feel to it. It was well built and couldn't fault the quality just not for me. No idea if they have differences in quality tho ? I've tried a few Sandberg basses and quite liked them but they were combinations of J or P pick ups with MM humbucker at bridge. Dave
  21. I do like my slim Geddy neck and my fav basses all have a slightly slimmer neck profile. I do have a few basses with thicker necks that i'm comfortable playing but there's something about a slim neck that i feel makes me lay better. I had a P bass in 80's and don't recall the meck being an issue. The only bass i've ever played and thought the neck was too wide was a Stingray bass back in 80's which is odd as i believe they were similar to the P basses at that time ?? Dave
  22. Its things like getting the correct neck to fit the body to ensure the string height is still ok. The soldering isn't a rob for me (i'm an electrical / instrument engineer) Then there's getting it painted and lacquered ? It all just seems like a bit of a risk to get right first time. Maybe if i had tried it a couple of times and knew exactly what the pitfalls were i might give it a go but i don't have enough confidence to go down that route. Dave
  23. Any decent estate car you might be able to fit a hard case in. The Mondeo mentioned above would be a good bet tho as i had the saloon and the boot was bloomin huge so i'm guessing the estate version must be bigger. I also use gig bags for rehearsals but always a hard case at gigs as there's more risk of damage at the gig itself. I also never leave my bass in the car no matter where i am. I have a Toyota pick up mainly because of where i live but i tend to put my bass on the back seat rather than in the covered rear cabin. Dave
