  1. I have to say that although i used get well oiled in my early 20's i only ever drank a few beers while playing just once and i made too many minor mistakes i never did it again. I have no regrets about what i did back then as i look at it as an adventure in life where we learn how to cope with various situations. Yes i was offered a few possible options towards fame but i enjoyed my job at the time and it paid better. Its always been a hobby and was always gonna take a back seat to my real job. Of course i could probably have climbed the career ladder a bit earlier but in hindsight i had a great time when i was younger and when i took work more seriously i managed to get to a pretty good management job that paid well enough to retire early. So all in all i really have no regrets except getting rid of some of my bass gear
  2. I shall gather my thoughts and move on regardless as demonstrated in chapter 3
  3. Book sounds as tho it could be a good read. Keep us informed when and where we can buy. Dave
  4. We went from standard recognised breaks to working as required thru lunch time and then on to eating lunch at my desk until 2 of us moved into the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Managers roles where we introduced a large mahogany dining table to the library section of the office. That was our lunch table and everyone working in the office would stop at 12:30 - 13:15 hrs every day unless a breakdown occurred. It was one of the best things we ever did in the office to return to a time when breaks were set and it removed you from the workplace. We agreed no talking shop at lunchtime either. To be fair there were only 6-10 staff left at this point. It broke the working day up and helped relieve stress of work a little. We still took our coffee at desk most of the time thru the day. Dave
  5. I bet there are some that do. Would have to say no tho. Would only drink water on stage these days. Dave
  6. Is it. Must be my age Sorry about that. If its still there when i sell my own gear i'll certainly be interested tho. Hopefully get mine advertised this week. Dave
  7. Tell you what Jacko you Forth guys like your Mesa gear as McNach is also a Mesa guy and he's just up the road from you in Wilsontown i think it is Considering how rare Mesa gear is over here its coincidence to have know 2 bassists in same area using Mesa.
  8. Appreciated Jacko as my guitarist is from Forth. I really would need to sell some of my other gear as i just don't have the space in my cave at the moment Originally i was looking at the subway series once i had moved some of my other gear on but your cab being a 2x12 suits my taste more. I'm in no rush to buy at the moment and will wait till i've moved some on. Thanks for the invite tho. GLWTS pretty sure it will go soon. Dave
  9. Ooooh that's nice and great price too. Been looking at Mesa gear but would need to sell some of my own gear first. And i'm only 15 miles from you as well. Possible trades ??? Dave
  10. I quite like that. Bit relaxing. Dave
  11. Having tried Ashdown amps few years back and not taking to them i had always ruled them out as a viable option when buying amps. Last night in Rehearsals the studio had an Ashdown 550 head into a Behringer 8x10. To be honest i wasn't looking forward to this. Plugged in and with the amp flat i was really taken aback. It had a nice tube warm sound with plenty of depth and i didn't even need to adjust the EQ at all. During a break tho i experimented a little with the EQ and found it had very little effect on the tone. No real prob as i was using an active PJ if needed. Have to say its kind of left me wondering about Ashdown amps again. Every days a school day i guess and its always wise to try everything you can and never rule out an amp until you try it. Dave
  12. Tried that and it does look as tho its doing something but waited a full 2mins and still nothing appeared so just gonna give that a miss. Cheers Dave
  13. Used to have a band rule no more than one beer before playing the gig and only one beer on stage while playing a 2 hr set. These days i prefer a bottle of water as i'm usually driving and i just prefer a clear head. If i'm not driving i might have a beer or a wee whisky afterwards but not really that fussed. Dave
  14. I have to admit to laughing at that i'm afraid. Kind of taking things to the extreme. Men will always look at good looking women and women will always look at good looking men. That's life and that's how we generally meet our partners or wives in life usually because you are attracted to them. And i have to admit to thinking similar thoughts to you but you beat me to the comment. It wasn't offensive in my opinion. Dave NB How do you get the name tabs highlighted on your post. ?
  15. Think i would be happy to stand behind them on stage for a few hours too.............listening to them sing of course.
  16. These would be my choice too. Excellent selection if i don't mind saying so myself. Dave
  17. Have to say WoT you look very relaxed in any of the pics. Is that a true reflection or are you hiding it well No matter its still kool. Dave
  18. What a fantastic memory to have documented for yourself WoT. Only one close up of the bass player tho. That's simply not good enough. Looks like its been a great show all round and to get a glimpse of behind the scenes and now the actual concert pics is just over-whelming. So glad you shared all this. Its made for a fantastic thread. One of the best i've read. Thanks Dave
  19. Nice basses. What are they as i don't recognise them.
  20. Fantastic playing with the legendary Trevor Horn. He's done just about everything from vocals, bass, songwriting, production, management. I saw him with YES many years ago and was totally taken aback how well he did and how good a singer / bassist he is live. And that song is an absolute classic. Think everyone recognises it even to this day. Dave
  21. Sorry to hear that as i had been to a few of them and they seemed very well organised. I did miss last year due to other commitments and noticed there were no signs of one this year. Dave
  22. This has been one of the best if not THE best thread i've read on Basschat. Fantastic. Thanks for sharing Dave
