  1. Been to a few of the local Moffat Bass Bash organised by Alan from ACG and its just like minded bassists bringing along their gear for others to try. Its not too loud that everyone is fighting volume against each other and many had headphone amps to keep the noise down. They sometimes have a jam session and usually have a guest speaker. I've seen Steve Williams, Steve Lawson and there's obviously a Steve thing going on there. There's tea and coffee with some home baked cake as well. What's not to like. Dave
  2. Chas & Dave. Not sure which one plays bass tho. Greg Lake, Jack Bruce, others i know have already been listed. Unfortunately not me..........for the moment but you never actually know. Dave
  3. I'm a big fan of Les Paul guitars altho i don't play guitar at all. I just love the look and sound from them. Its what i regard as the rock guitar. If i was a guitarist its the guitar i would want. However i believe Gibson have priced themselves out of the market and much like Fender their quality does not match the price they charge for an instrument. Many other bass companies have overtaken these two giants of guitar with regards quality. Dave
  4. This is the mainstay of my portable rig along with the extension cab. Lightweight yet probably more powerful than many larger amps. No matter where you gig you always get a good sound from these rigs. They just never seem to disappoint their owners. GLWTS Dave
  5. Usually they ask for your favourite No1. Never ask for your fav No2.
  6. I try not to play anything that might look like showing off as i personally hate to hear guys doing that when i'm in looking. Usually some scales across the neck, few quick licks with some harmonics or unusual style thrown in depending on how i'm feeling that day and never play too loud unless i'm testing an amp or cab where i want to check at a reasonable volume. On that i don't think i've ever actually upset anyone. Have even been asked to join bands while testing out basses. Dave
  7. That's great. I'll see how the band gets on before shelling out for an expensive custom costume. Dave
  8. The leather was more Sweet's heavier rock image tho. I kinda always associate with the later US Glam rock bands. Its an option tho but certainly not real leather as too hot (temperature wise that is) for stage gear. Have looked at leather look materials tho but thinking more on this kinda stuff.
  9. Come on .......even i don't watch that Think this might be hi-jacking this thread so i'll stop now. Sorry Dave
  10. I've just joined a 70's Glam Rock band altho at very early stages of deciding set list and what type of functions the band wants to do. First meet and greet kind of thing next week. The guys are all well experienced from tribute bands and played some fair size gigs with their respective tribute's. This was a side project for us all. The singer has been doing it as a solo act with backing tracks for a few yrs now and decided he's like to do it as a full band. This will be the full outfits to match very much like a tribute band. Are there any other bassists on here that play 70's Glam Rock covers and if so where did you buy your stage gear from. Any suggestions welcome .......within reason of course and keep it clean please. Dave
  11. I'm a Scotsman so not up on cricket but was trying to give England some credit for designing the first so called Baseball caps If i see cricket on TV its time to change channel for me i'm afraid. Like watching paint dry. Sorry Dave
  12. Mine is ordered and have already cleared a space in the bass cave amongst my basses. Once framed and hung i shall of course post a pic. Thanks Grassie for all your work. Dave
  13. Think i might try and work on that a bit. If its short spells i'm comfortable with it or if its varying notes. I just seem to have a problem when playing 16ths or triplets on same note for long periods at a time. Maybe i just loose focus and concentration because i find those songs a bit boring. I've used my thumb and first 2 fingers quite a lot but again shorter spells. Dave
  14. That isolated bass track sounds good. I can hear the bass a lot clearer and he's not playing as many notes as i first thought. Think that double bass drum covers it a fair bit. Thanks everyone. Always helps when you ask other BC'ers. Dave
  15. I regularly use my thumb as a pick but it doesn't have the same feel as the index or mid finger. Dave
  16. Thanks for that. It should help. I did pick up on the double bass drum making it sound fuller but still have to do a little work on it. The isolated bass should be a huge help. Thanks again Dave
  17. I was suffering from a bad back up near my left shoulder thru working in garden and decided on one of the Gruv Straps. Fantastic piece of kit altho you need to make sure you get the right length of strap as they don't have a great range and more suited to players that have their bass higher up than traditional rock players. They do make an extended version tho but when i bought mine they weren't available in UK yet. I lengthened mine by using a good quality leather belt and punched the correct size holes in it. My shoulder is now good and i only use the one strap now and its still the best strap i've ever used. I know other companies have similar things Check out Bass Direct that's where i got mine. Dave
  18. So where are you with this. I don't see an actual price Grassie. How do i place an order with you. I'm still very interested. Dave
  19. If you have Hot For Teacher that would be appreciated. Got some from Ultimate Guitar but the bass fills in verses don't seem right. Watched a few Youtube VIDS too and the guys are def not playing what's on the bass tab. I'll keep at it and will eventually get it or as near as poss. I did notice that one guy was using his middle finger like a pick playing the same notes with skin side then the nail side. He was quite good at it. Dave
  20. From what i've read he's a genuine nice guy too. Looks like Eddie wanted all his family as the band tho. Most of VH songs i can do relatively easy but this one is verging on Steve Harris feel. Very fast 16ths with few wee runs thrown in. Doesn't help when double bass runs over it all as trying tow ork out the runs is more difficult but i'll get there. Dave
