  1. Happy times right enough. I used to practice approx 2-3hrs a night after work. When i had the WAL bass i wasn't really gigging much, i had decided to spend time learning jazz-rock style bass like Brand X, Bruford, Camel just to improve my playing and technique. I'm far busier gig wise nowadays at 64 yrs old than i ever was in my 20's. I had a unlined Fender P fretless before the WAL and i liked the feel of a fretless. I still have my Overwater 6 string custom fretless but very rarely play it these days. Dave
  2. Few image changes there @BigRedX. Dave
  3. Yep we've had that issue on occasion where the set was too long and we were running out of time to finish for the night. We end up debating what song is dropped. I just stand at the side awaiting a resolve altho sometimes i don't hear what song we're doing next. We now have songs marked on the set list that we will drop for whatever reason. I've already covered the issue of adding more songs to an already long setlist without dropping other songs. Its no wonder we run out of time at the end of the night. I live in hope and dream of the day we stick to 2x1hr sets. Dave
  4. Cheers @jezzaboy and hopefully i'll see you in Paisley sometime. The Cave is calling you mate. Dave
  5. For a minute there i thought i was looking at Les Holroyd from Barclay James Harvest. Dave
  6. No idea. It had a dead spot on the G string and WAL didn't want to know anything about it even tho i bought it new from them as a custom order. Put me right of WAL. Dave
  7. Circa 83/84 WAL custom lined fretless £740 with one of THE best bass heads ever produced and a custom 12" + 15" bass cab fitted with Peavey Black Widows. Both amp channels on with the top passive channel doing most of the low end and the bottom para EQ channel doing the mids. It was a very nice bass tone. With BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam band approx 2yrs ago i think. BLOCKBUSTARZ unmasked earlier this year 2024 at a photo shoot. We took this one for posterity. Back RHS being happy. With Emergency Exit Punk covers band 2023. Not the sharpest of pics i'm afraid.
  8. Same female singer but different band Daryl ? Dave
  9. Unfortunately our vids are never on Youtube so its hard to copy over to BC. Dave
  10. Excellent once again Daryl. Nice guitar work and drummers backing vocals really nice. Watched you play a few times now and what strikes me most is how relaxed and free flowing your right hand is. You play a lot of little runs or fill ins but your hand has a natural rhythmic movement much like a rhythm guitarist would have. I've seen a few pick players play like that and it makes the whole thing very natural looking. Once again the overall sound is more modern Country to me than blues and i really like it. Nice one Daryl. Dave
  11. I've lost track of your original question now but i like the idea of lights being wireless as back of drum area in our band becomes a spaghetti junction with cables for light bars each side of drummer on back wall and then side bars each side of stage and also a few other effects lights. You end up with just as many lighting cables as you do mic cables so i'm curious to see where you end up. Dave
  12. When i order XLR cables these days i get my name and length labelled on each one. I use Designacable. It means i just take out the cable length i need for each venue. Dave
  13. You all looked so at ease with it and from an audience point of view it that's what defines the great bands from the good bands. Dave
  14. Think that's the first negative thing i've heard about the modern Shure systems. Just goes to show all gear can have issues and trial and error is sometimes required. Can be an expensive road TBH. I know i may be wrong here but i always have it in my head that you get what you pay for but you've just proved me wrong there @Woodinblack Dave
  15. Nice venue and well done to you for helping the other band out too. Amazes me how band members can turn up and just play without what i regard as "proper rehearsal time" Huge respect to you @Staggering on. That's a talent all on its own. Dave
  16. So good Daryl, That was class sir. I would go see you guys. Is that a cover or original song but thoroughly enjoyed it. That little quiet bit towards the end was so nice with the build up to the end superb. I love your singers voice. Its very easy to listen to but i'd have to say its more Country than Blues to me which i prefer and please take that as a huge compliment. There's an upsurge in modern country over here at the moment and some youngsters at the gym circa early to mid 20's love exercising to the new country sound kinda Luke Bryan type of songs. You should be jumping on that bandwagon and move away from the Blues thing. Your sound suits it more IMHO of course. The bass tone is nice and deep with a nice click top end coming thru. That would make a great pic of you and the singer together for advertising the band too. Why are you guys not doing more and bigger gigs. ? Post more please. Dave
  17. Our singer / guitarist keeps trying different "bug" style wireless with the latest being a Boss unit but he is constantly having issues with them varying from loud buzzing to signal drop outs and even volume changes with some. His vocal mic is a Shure wireless system with no issues, Other singer has a Sennheiser wireless with no issues and i use the Shure GLXD16 pedal wireless system with no issues. I started with the Smooth Hound but started getting problems with it buzzing and very occasional drop outs. It was the buzzing that caused me to change to Shure. For me and it's just a personal opinion based on varying experience on stage with different musicians over past few years i can't see past the Shure gear where iits built like the proverbial brick s***house and has never wavered at any gig, so simple to set up and use plus its also my main tuner. Dave
  18. We are doing a Hot Rod and Classic car event in Aug at a holiday park with Glam band. We played the holiday park last year and by coincidence the car club just happened to be there that weekend. The holiday park originally booked us. The car club then asked us if we could play it in 2024 on same weekend but we were already booked that weekend so they moved their club event booking to suit us. Looking forward to it again this year and i might even get a look at some of the cars this time. Dave
  19. Sold Gerry my Fender P Vintera today. Amazing comms, he arrived when he said he would and even sent me a message to say he was leaving the house. Such an easy transaction, no fuss, no quibbling, paid in cash and we had a great chat about basses and how we both worked for the same company at one point altho different sites. We seem to know the same people in the local music scene too and share a passion for the same kind of music. Absolute gent and a pleasure to deal with. Wish all transactions were this good. Hope you enjoy the bass. Who knows you might even keep it longer than usual for you Gerry. All the best Dave
  20. Great PR there. You gotta applaud that. Dave
  21. Not had complimentary meals but we have had sandwiches and juice supplied in dressing room areas. TBH its not a big deal for me as i normally take a Tesco meal deal with me. I don't like anything too heavy before playing so a cheese and onion sandwich and a fruit juice is my preferred food before playing. Dave
  22. Came across this wee snippet while driving today. Had no idea who it was and thought it was possibly an early Uriah Heep. Got home and was surprised to find it was ELP.
  23. Waiting on delivery of the Trevor Bolder solo album Sail The Rivers. Came across it on Youtube by chance and had a listen. Was fair impressed by the final production. Singer is very impressive and includes drumming by Lee Kerslake on a few tracks. If you like Heep, Trevor Bolder and good classic rock music then its worth a wee listen. Dave
