  1. Think we've all had that brain freeze moment Pete. Hopefully no-one else noticed Dave
  2. Really quite fancy this. PM sent for more info Stevie. Dave
  3. Didn't think you would sell this one Stevie. Dave
  4. 100% Daryl, we are quite lucky that our guitarist is an ex Royal Marine instructor trained in 3-4 martial arts. To be fair he is so chilled nothing seems to phase him. I try not to get too close to drunks at the end of the night and once finished i'm usually off stage to get changed and all i want to do is get packed up and go home. Unfortunately with the Glam band we get a lot of requests to have pics taken with us but its usually women who are pretty respective about it and we've not had any issues with them but i'm always wary especially when wearing platform boots. Dave
  5. I have no sympathy for you ya drunken b*m @snorkie635 My bass tech is currently working on a fix for your mishap With regards the Entertainment Secretary i have offered your condolences to his family. Mrs Kray said her sons will be in touch with you soon. Again i offer condolences. Had a drunk climb onto the stage at the end of the night and knock over my Sandberg luckily no damage. Following gig drunk guy fell over the edge of the stage across the monitors and broke the antenna's on one of the vocal mic wireless receiver and knocked the mic stand into the face of our female singer bursting open a major gash above her eye causing a stream of blood to flow down her face. Luckily she is a trained nurse and grabbed my sweat towel (clean of course) and we managed to stem the blood flow and carry on with the show. That was all within a week right before Xmas. Happy days. Dave
  6. Its the little thank you or a comment on how well you played at the end of the night that makes you feel special that night. Not so much the drunks that slabber over you and can hardly talk but genuine folks that just appreciated the band. Those are special moments for me and i fully appreciate them. Dave
  7. Nice one. Hope it all goes well and the new guy is a good fit for you. Keep us posted. Dave
  8. I've been to a beer festival and you are spot on. People were there solely for beer and had no interest in the bands. I was there sampling beer but fancy beers isn't really my thing so didn't stay too long. Dave
  9. No matter what the event i always engage with the band when they finish every song i'll applaude. Common courtesy in my opinion. If a band is good i get more enthusiastic in my response. Dave
  10. Easy listening or background music is what you want at a winery / brewery. I'd probably go to more gigs if they were Sunday afternoons. Just a better vibe for me. Dave
  11. You're half way there .......... now go out and get a Sunday booking. Job done. When i was younger we had Sunday afternoon rock bands in some venues. Had to be hotels as pubs back then could only open 12-2 and 5-11 ish. Hotels open all day. Happy days Dave
  12. We've done a few Sun afternoon gigs finished by 5pm and home by 7 ish. The perfect gigs Dave
  13. This is the one thing that bugs the heck out of me these days as i'm always driving and don't really drink these days. I never really noticed this as an issue in my younger days for some odd reason. Maybe i was just more tolerant when i was 20. Dave
  14. Playing has always been just a hobby for me. I had opportunities to go professional in my 20's but having a well paid job that i enjoyed and it just wasn't worth the risk for me to walk away from the job. I've never wanted playing to be any more than a hobby and if it ever does i will probably give it up too. As long as i'm enjoying it i'll try to keep going. I've been retired for 8 yrs now from age 56 so i do have a lot more time on my hands than you younger guys and that makes learning sets a lot easier for me. I do appreciate that for some guys on here its their main source of income and that would definitely change things. Don't get me wrong i do enjoy making decent money with the band. These days i'm not losing money at gigs. That's a big change for me from my younger days when hiring vans and PA's used to use up all of the gig money With lightweight gear and a decent sized car i can easily carry my bass gear and our larger PA cabs (not incl the subs tho - they need a van hire) Dave
  15. I was just making the point that age is never a reason to stop playing. Family, work or health are usually the main reasons. Dave
  16. Almost 64 i have to say this is the busiest i've ever been in any band. Not gigging every week but its getting close to it. Dave
  17. Sometimes life and family have to come first. Good choice as you don't get those fun yrs back with your kids. Make the best of it now. Once they become teenagers they'll only need you to drive them to gigs with their own bands Dave
  18. Couple of nice looking Fenders there too. Dave
  19. Had a few like that myself Daryl and all of a sudden you get a full venue and whoo hoo you are back on top again. 🤩 Dave
  20. With the Glam band it varies from around 70 to 200 depending on venue size. We had a lot of sell out gigs last year too which is always nice to see posted on the venue page. On the other side of the coin the punk band plays to 10 to 70 Dave
  21. BLOCKBUSTARZ Glam covers band at Beat Generator in Dundee tonight. Only 54 advanced ticket sales but it had a lot of walk-ins. Owner said its always a quiet time for bands but we had a lot more than even he expected. Reckon around 100 in total and all up for a great party night. Audience were dancing all night, owner loved it and said the band were brilliant. FB comment already saying we have been the best band ever to play there and they will be back to see us. Have to say the audiences in Dundee always seem to be very enthusiastic for us. Pain of a load in & out as its 3 flights of stairs but PA and lights are supplied. Sound Engineer did a fantastic job on both FOH and stage sound. 1.5hr drive home but not too bad as roads were virtually empty and i managed to get parked outside the main door of the venue. Superb. All in all a good night. Sandberg VM4 into Ampeg SVT7 Pro and Mesa SW210/115 cabs. Dave
  22. Well done. You must like Dire Straits to dep on bass one week and guitar the next. Impressive. Dave
  23. I did have an active bass that didn't work in passive mode when battery was down or removed but can't remember which one it was. I change my batteries every Xmas / New Year but voltages are usually still ok typically above 9V off load. If i check a battery on my working basses and its below 9.2V i'll replace it. Typically a new battery will measure 9.6-9.7V off load. They still work down to 8.7V off load but wouldn't trust it at that level. My wireless transmitter has built in rechargeable batteries which give me approx 3 gigs before a recharge approx 12-14hrs. Dave
