Having tried Ashdown amps few years back and not taking to them i had always ruled them out as a viable option when buying amps. Last night in Rehearsals the studio had an Ashdown 550 head into a Behringer 8x10. To be honest i wasn't looking forward to this. Plugged in and with the amp flat i was really taken aback. It had a nice tube warm sound with plenty of depth and i didn't even need to adjust the EQ at all. During a break tho i experimented a little with the EQ and found it had very little effect on the tone. No real prob as i was using an active PJ if needed. Have to say its kind of left me wondering about Ashdown amps again. Every days a school day i guess and its always wise to try everything you can and never rule out an amp until you try it. Dave

Smoking, drinking, eating, watching TV etc.while on stage?
dmccombe7 replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Used to have a band rule no more than one beer before playing the gig and only one beer on stage while playing a 2 hr set. These days i prefer a bottle of water as i'm usually driving and i just prefer a clear head. If i'm not driving i might have a beer or a wee whisky afterwards but not really that fussed. Dave -
I have to admit to laughing at that i'm afraid. Kind of taking things to the extreme. Men will always look at good looking women and women will always look at good looking men. That's life and that's how we generally meet our partners or wives in life usually because you are attracted to them. And i have to admit to thinking similar thoughts to you but you beat me to the comment. It wasn't offensive in my opinion. Dave NB How do you get the name tabs highlighted on your post. ?

What a fantastic memory to have documented for yourself WoT. Only one close up of the bass player tho. That's simply not good enough. Looks like its been a great show all round and to get a glimpse of behind the scenes and now the actual concert pics is just over-whelming. So glad you shared all this. Its made for a fantastic thread. One of the best i've read. Thanks Dave

Nice basses. What are they as i don't recognise them.

Fantastic playing with the legendary Trevor Horn. He's done just about everything from vocals, bass, songwriting, production, management. I saw him with YES many years ago and was totally taken aback how well he did and how good a singer / bassist he is live. And that song is an absolute classic. Think everyone recognises it even to this day. Dave

Sorry to hear that as i had been to a few of them and they seemed very well organised. I did miss last year due to other commitments and noticed there were no signs of one this year. Dave

Been to a few of the local Moffat Bass Bash organised by Alan from ACG and its just like minded bassists bringing along their gear for others to try. Its not too loud that everyone is fighting volume against each other and many had headphone amps to keep the noise down. They sometimes have a jam session and usually have a guest speaker. I've seen Steve Williams, Steve Lawson and there's obviously a Steve thing going on there. There's tea and coffee with some home baked cake as well. What's not to like. Dave

Chas & Dave. Not sure which one plays bass tho. Greg Lake, Jack Bruce, others i know have already been listed. Unfortunately not me..........for the moment but you never actually know. Dave

I'm a big fan of Les Paul guitars altho i don't play guitar at all. I just love the look and sound from them. Its what i regard as the rock guitar. If i was a guitarist its the guitar i would want. However i believe Gibson have priced themselves out of the market and much like Fender their quality does not match the price they charge for an instrument. Many other bass companies have overtaken these two giants of guitar with regards quality. Dave

Usually they ask for your favourite No1. Never ask for your fav No2.

I try not to play anything that might look like showing off as i personally hate to hear guys doing that when i'm in looking. Usually some scales across the neck, few quick licks with some harmonics or unusual style thrown in depending on how i'm feeling that day and never play too loud unless i'm testing an amp or cab where i want to check at a reasonable volume. On that i don't think i've ever actually upset anyone. Have even been asked to join bands while testing out basses. Dave

That's great. I'll see how the band gets on before shelling out for an expensive custom costume. Dave

The leather was more Sweet's heavier rock image tho. I kinda always associate with the later US Glam rock bands. Its an option tho but certainly not real leather as too hot (temperature wise that is) for stage gear. Have looked at leather look materials tho but thinking more on this kinda stuff.

Come on .......even i don't watch that Think this might be hi-jacking this thread so i'll stop now. Sorry Dave -
I've just joined a 70's Glam Rock band altho at very early stages of deciding set list and what type of functions the band wants to do. First meet and greet kind of thing next week. The guys are all well experienced from tribute bands and played some fair size gigs with their respective tribute's. This was a side project for us all. The singer has been doing it as a solo act with backing tracks for a few yrs now and decided he's like to do it as a full band. This will be the full outfits to match very much like a tribute band. Are there any other bassists on here that play 70's Glam Rock covers and if so where did you buy your stage gear from. Any suggestions welcome .......within reason of course and keep it clean please. Dave
