1. Not sure if this is your model but i found it from doing a google search. Hope this helps. Dave
2. My pre-amp from my 89 Thumb bass faile and i was unable to get the direct EMG replacement from Warwick as no longer manufatcured. They supplied the MEC equivelant. It was fitted by McIntyre Guitars in Edinburgh. I had the same fault as you have described along with a popping type noise on occasions. I checked all the usual things like cleaning the pots and checking the jack socket connection with a jack inserted. I know how to solder and how to check soldering and it was def a problem with the pre-amp. The crackling could have been down to a poor connection or maybe just the pots needing cleaned. If i remember right the Warwick website or even try the Warwick forum for a schematic for yours. I managed to get one for my Thumb quite easily. That should tell you where the wires should be attached. Dave
3. Why is this still here at that price it should have been snapped up by now. The 115 cab sounds far better than the 410 IMO. These are great sounding deep cabs and they still retain the top end clarity. Built like a tank and really solid. Its not that heavy that you can't lift on your own altho 2 person lift is always best for a good sturdy cab. I paid a third more for mine 2nd hand and its the black one which usually isn't the most popular choic for Orange gear.. I'm really surprised. GLWTS bumpity bump Dave
4.
Tim if you have an issue like this again, drop me a PM via BC or FB. I have a good stock of spares in my bits box, which has been running since 1978, so there would be a fair chance of me having a suitable part. Also comes with tea/coffee, chocolate biscuits, and the opportunity to try out kit!
I don't need any parts but coffee and chocolate biscuits sounds good Nice offer. well done sir. That's proper customer service. Dave
5. Love my Ampeg tone but reliability of the SVT4 Pro is so bad i now only use it in our own rehearsals studio. Would never use it live. Not had to use their CS either. Worst CS i've had was Hartke. No response at all from emails or returned calls. Best I've had probably Warwick back in 89 when i had a prob with the new Thumb bass i bought. They took the bass back to Germany, repaired the electronic capsule and sent me a box of goodies including an apology letter, sweatshirt, 3 sets of Elites strings, various posters and few other smaller items like pen, keyring etc. Dave
6.
MB200? Rumble 200?
Another +1 for the GK MB200. I have it and its pretty impressive for its size. Very small, lightweight and also has an AUX input that is quite handy.
7.
You know the rule - if you haven't met one - it's you!
Brilliant. Feck me i haven't met any ................damn !!!!! Dave
8.
I've found that its essential to be very detailed in your post on what you are and aren't looking for. A lot of posters on jmb barely write a sentence. When I formed my current band; my post covered the genres we'd be playing, where, when and how often we'd be rehearsing, average number of gigs per month, no divas need apply, experience level, the rule that songs are to be learned at home, so that we are all ready to play them at rehearsals - to name but a few things. The band has come together well and, touch wood; heading into our 2nd year with some great gig bookings.
Think that's a good point. If more info is supplied upfront without being overkill then it saves having to get in touch and going thru the motions to find out that half the band only want to rehearse or just play 2 gigs a year and only for charity. If its stated up front the guys that are looking to make money won't bother. I have found that most function bands adverts i've looked at do give a fair bit of detail. Maybe that's because they are already organised and know exactly what is required. ? Dave
9. Cheers guys. I used the schallers mainly because my Thumb bass had them fitted but they have a proper imbedded bolt screw rather than a wood screw attachment and thought i would keep them all the same. I think i have some Dunlop ones so might change my 2 Fenders to them. I use the same strap for both Fenders but my Thumb bass strap is shorter in length due to the top horn button being higher up. Dave
10. Anyone else have a problem with their strap button screw coming loose quite often. ? It tightens up again ok but eventually loosens off again after a few months. I'm using the schaller strap lock system. Don't think its the same problem as the screw not retightening so just wondered if anyone has a simple solution Dave
11. Not my usual kind of rock or metal but thought you played it very well and the band sounded very tight. Not a fan of that croaking vocal thing tho but singer sounds like he has a good range. Can hear the similarities to early Maiden as mentioned earlier. Originally listened to it direct from laptop and thought it was a little weak in depth and tone. Put headphones on for a 2nd listen and WOW there it was. The full depth and tone was bang on for that kind of music. The overall tone really did quite impress me. Again the band sounded very tight and all seemed to work very well together. Think the VID clip is a good showcase for the band so all the very best in the future guys. Well done. Dave
12. Just watched their trailer and they sound pretty impressive. I've never managed to catch their gigs yet but maybe next year. Dave
13.
I played Xylophone in the Royal Albert Hall about 20 years ago. There's not much call for it. I play bass now
What was the event ? just curious Dave
14. I had a PA hire with a band called Galliano (keyboard player was ex-Style Council) back in 80's and their bass player was held up altho his gear was set up by the stage crew. We needed to complete a quick sound check of the band and they asked if i could do his sound check. It was a standard Fender bass but the action was so high it has stuck in my mind ever since. Must have been around 5mm on E string. The band were all pretty seasoned musicians too. When the bassist finally arrived i mentioned it to him and he said he liked it that way to do slap bass which seemed to be his favoured technique. All in all they were an amazing band, exceptional musicians. I couldn't have gigged with his bass with an action that high. Currently my Jazz is 2mm on E. My P/J is slightly higher at 2.5mm. I do feel the difference when switching between them. The Jazz has been tweaked over the years to get to that point whereas the PJ i only bought this year and still working on it to get it just right. Dave Dave
15. I'm not usually a fan of all out slap but i found this reasonably entertaining. Not the best playing but a nice wee bass duel. What i did like was the 4 string V 6 string solo. About 4 or 5 mins is all i could probably listen to before getting bored tho. Dave
16. I tend to look at Bandmix first and regularly see the same bands advert on JMB or even Gumtree. To me that shows they are taking it a little more seriously. Bandmix has a fee if you want to contact someone tho. Beware the auto renewal function that is ticked automatically. I recently paid the monthly charge to contact a band i was interested in and the following month they deducted another monthly fee. When i queried it they said it was auto renewal and i needed to go to my settings to un-tick the box. To be fair they refunded the charge. Think you just have to keep at it with any site to get the band you are looking for. I've had same lack of response from all the sites over the years. If anyone contacts me i always reply even if its to say i'm now with a band or i don't have the time available to help. A little courtesy and common decency goes a long way in my book but i'm afraid it's not the norm on any of the sites. Keep at it and eventually someone will either get in touch with you or you'll find the right band. Dave
17.
I play the bass which gives me the sound I prefer. Currently I think that my Jazz sounds better than my Precision, so that's what I'm playing on all my gigs. I was happy with the situation, but I recently did a gig with a drummer who is also a bass player and he said the J and P sounded more similar than different to him! That was a puzzle, because I don't hear them as sounding the same, at all. . . . and then someone recorded a couple of songs on a gig and the J and P do sound very similar to each other! How do I manage to do that?
Magic fingers Dave
18. Don't have a solo pic of my Jaydee Roadie fretless. Bought 2nd hand from Bass Direct few yrs back. Dave
19. Have a look at the Sandberg range maybe 2nd hand. I was very impressed with them Dave
20.
Was looking on Reverb for used Americans - seem to be around a grand though, a bit OTT for second-hand in my opinion. Came across this - will this give a good aggressive P tone?
Only if it floats your boat
21. I'll occasionally look to see who's on and if anyone interesting i'll record it so i can jump oast all the other crap. The show is usually a waste of TV space. Jools has lost the plot with some of the material he puts on the show. There are far more well known and popular genres of music out there that don't get TV time. Why not put on some modern rock or Prog bands for a change. Doesn't need to be every band just an occasional one.
22. Mines are perfect mate. Tested every 2 yrs. I've just never associated any Carbon fibre bass as woody or organic. That's why i was asking. When i think of Carbon basses i think clean but warm tone with no distinct edge to it that would stand out in a mix. (Status and Steinberger) On the other hand the Vigier has a sharpness to it that i find quite different to other carbon basses. Woody and Organic just doesn't sound right to me.
23. I've only heard good things about the new range of Fender amps. Need to try one out i think. Dave
24.
It's a bit like Tina Weymouth's Frog Dance when the big lad lets loose and spanks his plank whilst leaping about the stage. Not sure who is the sexier of the two though.
Not seen that one but i'm now curious.
