1. Put the band in a pub full of Sabbath fans after a few beers and it'll pass ok. Not the best singer but once there's a crowd and an atmosphere it might work pretty well especially if the singer has some stage presence. Lets be honest Ozzy was never the best singer either and he freely admits that in his book. What he did have to cover it on many occasions was stage presence and outrageous acts of stupidity but that's showmanship. If he's a good mate and you are all enjoying it and audiences are there to see you then all well and good. The IEM thing might just be all that's needed. Its amazing how difficult it is to sing in tune when you can't actually hear yourself. Some pros can get away with it no probs others cant. Good luck and hope it works out well for you guys. Dave
2.
Why not just buy another amp for the cab? Then split the output from your bass (with a splitter pedal) into the separate amps . You can then EQ them any way you like. Makes things much simpler.
Yep that's a lot easier. Was doing that with my Roland GT-6B into both amps until TE pre-amp started playing up. Dave
3. At moment i'm running a GK MB200 into an Orange OBC 115 cab and taking the line out signal feeding to the effect IN of a Trace GP150 head that has a pre-amp problem but power section works fine. The TE head feeds an Orange OBC210 Mini. I set up the volume for the 115 cab and then bring in the TE master volume as required to give me a slight hi-mid edge that the 115 doesn't seem to have. The 115 has a nice warm depth but lacks a little hi end mid so this set up works very well My Ampeg SVT4 Pro is currently in for repair but will be using that with its inbuilt X-over and stereo outputs to feed each cab. Many say that theoretically this set up should not work because of the air movement or air volume from each cab being different. I've tried many cab set ups over the years and a combination like this works very well for me. I also have a Bergantion cab with 1x12, 2x10's and horn with in built x-over and that also has a nice balance but as a single cab very heavy. You will need to either use a X-over and twin amps or a pre-amp into seperate power amps or as i have done taking a line out signal and feeding another amp. Dave
4. Thoroughly enjoyed. Might look at buying an album as she had more great well known songs than i first thought. She has a definite feel to her music that makes her stand out from others from that era. Dave
5. Back in early 80's i was with a Prog band that continually rehearsed but always found some kind of fault in one of the songs and therefore there was no ending in sight and i was asked to audition for a more modern 80's type pop rock originals band. I said i was interested in going to the audition and before i knew it they had one of my mates attending the rehearsals to learn how i was playing the bass parts. Did the audition and got offered the position. By time i got to the next Prog band rehearsal they said my mate was taking over the bass and they assumed i would get the part. Didn't fall out with anyone over it as they obviously assumed i would leave anyway. They were all my drinking mates at the time and nothing came between drinking buddies back then Still friends with them all to this day. Friendship is a strong bond. Not so much sacked but more a replacement waiting in the wings for me leaving. If i hadn't accepted the position i think i would have been sacked tho. Dave
6. Have you asked ebay for advice on what to do. I've found them quite helpful in disputes. Have to say i always thought that if you gave them 28days and they didn't collect then you can dispose of it. So that's a bit of a surprise to know you need to keep it for 6yrs. Mmmmm I do like the idea of selling on auction site listing all the faults and then when seller asks for his money he gets the pittance that it was sold for. Dave
7. Oooohhhhh that's DARK. Not seen one in that colour before. Good to see you finally got it tho and hope you are happy with the end result. Worth the wait i reckon. All the best Dave
8.
Why.? i rest my case.
Gonna go with this one too. Hate that song. Dave
9.
Last night's gig was a MAG do rather than a Harley only rally (I used to be regional rep for the HDRCGB, so I know what their rallies are like!) and there were till plenty of just-drunk-enough revellers to dance to everything we threw at the until half one when we called it a day (it was our second gig of the day, and we're not too strong on youthful energy any more!). Those that weren't up on their feet were either sitting around the fire outside, or dead drunk in their tents (I know my mate was, he was well gone when we arrived!). Booking the burlesque was a good move, as those girls were up and dancing like there were was no tomorrow after their own show. I'm knackered today, but at least I haven't got to ride home with a hangover!
Nice one Dave. Sounds like it was a great night. Afraid i'm now one of the sensible Harley owners and don't drink to excess these days. I do however enjoy watching the bands at the ralies, mainly Thunder In the Glens at Aviemore. Never seem to have the time to get to the others but maybe this year Dave
10. Although it does have similarities to the U2 thing i have to admit i really enjoyed it. Taking a step back and just listening to the song as an average punter i thought it was catchy enough to get attention. No matter who the band is there will always be something that isn't quite right. I personally struggle to criticise it and if this is the first attempt then it will surely or hopefully get even better as the band gets tighter and your writing skills are perfected to get the best out of everyone. I'd be very happy with that guys. Its always good to get an honest opinion and that's what Basschat is all about so take peoples advice and use it to your advantage for the next single or album. Wealth of knowledge here on basschat and its all good advice, everyone means well and its for your benefit and at the end of the day its free. Good luck and wish you all the best. Dave
11.
Mrs C has some friends involved in the folky / acousticy type scene here in London where nearly every pub, coffee shop, vegan peace cafe etc. Has a small stage in the corner and a promoter is paid by the venue to provide a sensitive man with a beard to sing songs complaining about stuff. Some of her friends gig most nights, all originals. Whenever I have been to these gigs I am almost always the only person who buys a beer / coffee / vegan peace biscuit, everyone else including the other acts just drinks tap water all night... whole tables of people with a pint of tap water each... I can't see the venues thinking its worth it for much longer.
Oddly enough i was in a restaurant at Loch Ness Inn few yrs ago and they had a saxaphone player doing a background set of classics during 7-9 dining spot. It was one of the best dining experiences i've ever had. Pity more restaurants don't do this. Dave
12.
64, that's cool.We play a lot of biker bars on a consistent basis. However, here are my observations; 1.There's no young bikers to be seen anywhere 2. Bikers are not the big partiers and drinkers I thought they were. At least not in my neck of the woods. Blue
Don't think bikes are as popular an image to youngsters these days. Most youngsters would prefer a car and they can pick a car up for same price as a bike these days. At the Harley bike rallies i go to there is more than enough drinking being done by all age groups but as FinnDave pointed out they are all staying overnight. There's definitely nowhere near as many rock or biker bars in Scotland as there used to be so i guess you just don't see the "younger" bikers as often. If you're talking Harley bikers then cost of the bikes usually means its middle-aged or older guys that can afford them and are "usually" more sensible and physically not able to drink as much as the 20yr olds. Who wants a 2 day hang-over at our age Dave Dave
13. Nice. Tried one in Glasgow couple months ago and they have a "big" sound. Very full, very clear and so easy to play. Problem was the shop only had reliced basses and i hate them. That is really nice and i ended up with Precision Deluxe in similar colour. If i had seen this bass i would have jumped at it for that money. GLWTS Dave
14.
I always struggle to find a lift that has Jimmy Haslip or Victor Wooten playing in it.
Not enough room for them
15. Think one of the big differences in our day Blue is that rock, blues & Prog was the "popular" music in its day and therefore many bars had live bands playing songs that altho popular were still what we regard as the standard pub / bar band music even to this day. Almost every bar i went to in late 70's had a rock band playing at weekends and in Glasgow you literally could see a live rock band every night of the week. My local venue had either rock blues or prog bands every night of week and as it moved into 80's that tailed off to just a Thu / Fri / Sat and eventually just a Fri / Sat Popular music has changed a lot since those days with far more varying styles now available. Bass technique has progressed to keep up with style of music being played in my opinion. We now have bands that are made up of virtuoso musicians ie Dream Theater yet most people don't appreciate their actual songs altho they appreciate the musicianship. Individually they are all excellent players but put them together it doesn't come across well for the general public. I find that a lot with many modern rock bands. I would rather hear a good melody in a song played by mediocre musicians than poor song by expert musicians. Think i'm drifting of thread a bit here. My point being that modern popular music has so many more styles now than it did in 70's. Dave
16. Roland Mfx GT-6B. It has options set up for instant tonal changes. I set it up in my chain but have never used it in majority of bands since 2012 when i was with a Friends of Deep Purple tribute band when switching between various bass styles ie Precision, Rik, Tele to cover everything used by different artists. I keep it in my chain in case i need the DI output and now as a back up tuner for my Rack mounted Korg. Other than that i get my current band sound from my Precision deluxe PJ set up so don't really need it but feels safer with it. Dave
17. We rehearse on a Monday night. As a new band we were playing the guitarists birthday and he needed to give the venue a band name. 6 in the band and members have changed quite a bit before i joined. The Monday Club is what he came up with on the spot. When he told rest of us we all liked it. Dave
18. Nice choice. GLWTS and hope you get new bass soon. Obviously we expect a bass review on it Dave
19.
Thank you very much :-) It's an amazing bass and I actually sold it a while back, regretted it and bought it back! It's time to move her on now though to fund an upgrade :-D BASS NOW ON HOLD
I'm curious to know what you would upgrade to as this is well up there among the elite basses. Are you giving away any clues Dave
20.
In my experience of forklift driving, and showing the photo to work mates, we are 100% convinced it has been caught by a fork on the forklift. It is the type of damage we see. A fork doesnT always go through packaging if there is resistence inside. The tips of the forks are slightly narrower at the tip, and looks exactly tje right size.
Absolutely brilliant and made my day. (In a good way of course) The BC Forensic science Team investigative the serious and willful damage to this poor, almost deceased cab. It doesn't get much better than this. I'm fair impressed and amazed that it was passed around the workplace as back up and support. Well done Timmo. This is what makes BC the place to be. I know this is a serious issue but i have to admit this post did have me chuckling at the length my BC friends will go to help a fellow BC'er. Dave
21. Gruv Gear Duo strap shares the load. Bass Direct do them. Other than that make sure you move around and don't stand in one position like many bassists do. Even if its just a few steps to the side or forward and back to break the posibility of back ache. I find if i stand in one position too long my back aches a bit
22. Citizens Advice might well pass you on to Trading Standards as in my area they are virtually same department. Might as well go straight to Trading Standards. They've always been very helpful for me over the years. It might be worth you informing the courier that you will be taking this up with Trading Standards due to the unsatisfactory response and settlement of your claim. The minute you make a case with Trading Standards it is registered as a complaint against that company. If they get enough complaints they automatically take action against the company. It also shows up on all statistical forums as an official complaint. Most companies try to avoid official Trading Standards complaints when possible. They might pay out at the very mention of Trading Standards. I believe Trading Standards have the power to eventually take sufficient action against companies and in worst case scenario they can stop trading. Dave
23. Excellent VID clip. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Bass sounds fantastic. Not sure why you would want to sell such a fantastic bass. GLWTS Dave
24. Any new amps or cabs i've had delivered had polystyrene or similar on each corner and in some cases sheets of polystyrene along main sides of the cab. It would then bewrapped in polythene sealed bags and place in a sturdy cardboard box. Others i've seen with same corners but the bag filled with quaver type packing to take up any space. I've also had some items where cab was also wrapped in bubble wrap with polystyrene edging along all top and bottom edges. 2nd hand cabs i've had delivered have usually been lots of tightly wrapped bubble wrap and lots of packing tape and some put additional cardboard inside the box to protect the main surface areas. No amount of packing wil protect against misuse of customers packages. To do that level of damage thru bubble wrap and cardboard its serious and not routine. Last cab i got delivered the guy literally thru it inside the hallway. My wife answered the door and he just literally lobbed it. I heard it from the other side of the house (practicing bass) and came to see what the loud thud was. He was away by that point or he would have got an earful. Dave
