Those Sandberg basses are pretty impressive and at that price i'm really surprised its not gone Karl. If you had been closer i might have considered it but a little bit bass maxed out at the moment. In between bands too so can't even justify it for a new project either Karl is a top notch guy and hasa great feedback on BC so buy with absolute confidence and knowledge he only buys good playable gear. GLWTS Dave

Found it Jacko. That's an impressive bass set up you're using. Alembic bass with Mesa rig. Nice. Dave
-
Sorry Jacko i think its a guy from Carluke that was playing The Stonehouse. What's your bands name ? Dave
Good luck Dave and let us know once you start gigging. Always happy to support local bands (and hopefully find new venues into the process). Graeme
Oddly enough Graeme the guitarist lives in Forth I only know his 1st name tho as Dave or more commonly in Forth "Dov" I'll keep you posted although you might see it on FB as i follow your band too. Meant to get to your Hamilton gig Stonehouse but something came up and couldn't make it so keep me posted and here's hoping. Dave

What would you do- a hypothetical quandary?
dmccombe7 replied to yorks5stringer's topic in General Discussion
May be some confusion on this one. Is the OP not asking what we all do when selling. ? I'm not sure he's asking what we would do in his specific situation. Or is he asking for advice on both ? Dave -

If i agreed to sell to someone and we agreed a meet for sale then i def wouldn't sell to anyone else unless they never showed. Any delaying tactics i would look at the next offer. I think you need to use some common sense and allow the buyer some time to make arrangements. Dave -
Rubber bungs on her heels? I use bright green cables and a smooth hound wireless setup. It seems it's not popular to have coloured cables but it helps at break down time especially when you have a band member with a 'bad memory' for which cables are theirs. All my black speaker and mic cables have yellow cable ties at both ends for the same reason.
My own gear cables go in my own bag. I set up and dismantle my own gear to ensure no confusion over what's mine. I paid a lot for good quality leads especially my OBBM ones and don't want some dim witted guitarist who unlike us professional bassists on BC just don't give a sh*t about such things and would unwittingly put in his own bag if left unattended. I believe all guitarists should therefore be tethered before, during and immediately after the gig until the bass equipment is securely locked away from sight thus rendering their stupidity inconsequential. PA cables all goes into one box rather than individuals having their own mic cables. Most bands i've been in the PA belonged to one person usually the guitarist for some odd reason but maybe i've just been lucky I guess if everyone has their own colour coded cables it makes a lot of sense. I kinda like that idea even if its only coloured tape at each end or as you say coloured cable ties each end. Dave

Not knowing your band set up here's a few questions How often do you change pedal settings during a set ? Do you only make changes between songs or during a song ? Is it possible to have your pedals towards the front and at the side of the drumkit where its accessible while playing yet out of the way from singer. Failing that long cables round the edge of the stage altho i do like the idea of rugs over the cables. Dave

Who plays the Heaviest Bass in the business? Why?
My Musicman Sabre weighs about 12 1/2 lbs. (Just to put that in perspective, I weigh about 140lbs...so what's that ? A leg ?)
Brilliant -
Have to say i've liked them since they were first released. Nothing to far out in design but enough so that its not a Fender clone. Loving the finish on yours Dave. Very nice. How does it feel compared to your T bass. Does the neck feel similar ? Would have to try one before i bought one as i've never played a Gibson bass. Dave

My Overwater 6 string fretless and my Warwick Thunb both a bit too heavy to gig with but could never get rid of them. Overwater i had built for my 50th and my warwick i've had since new in 89. Dave -
2 hours before I need to leave I begin to get ready - shower, shave, get changed, cook and eat dinner, sit down with a coffee then I finish off with whatever music I'm loving at the minute. I hate rushing about so if I take my time preparing I am totally relaxed for the gig. I don't think about playing until I am on stage - after 30 years that just happens by itself About to have dinner now and watch this:
Cheers for that wee VID clip. Not seen that one before. I like to be relaxed and that means enough time to set up, sound check and then some time to relax before playing. I'm usually driving so no alcohol but bite to eat and a coffee or a juice of some kind. Dave
Back to all valve and an amp I've listed over for years. Fantastic combination. Love it in my doom band after one rehearsal so far:
Is it just the light hitting the front panel or is the front face bent a little ? Beast of a set up. Would love to hear it live. Dave

SE Bass Bash 2017 - with Steve Lawson and Davey Rimmer
A fantastic day - so many great people and instruments/gear. I've always said that bassists are the greatest musicians to be around - No airs and graces - just nice people and this was proven tenfold on Saturday! As said before - big thanks to Nik, Colin, Ped, Mrs Hamster and all involved in organising the day and keeping it running smoothly. Big ups to Davey, Lee and Steve for their great talks too Same time next year?!
With your background in Rock and fair collection of basses it would have been nice to hear you give a talk even if it was just on the tribute side of the music. You must have some great stories of gigs too. You've played a few first class one Gary. Dave -
Unfortunately, even a very cheap second hand AD200 is out of my price range at the moment. Having enquired today with PMT as to what they'd give me for my AG500 as a trade in (not generally the way to get the best deal obviously anyway) I'd still have to save up for a couple of months before I could manage even the OB1 300! Oh the joys of paying for bringing up 3 kids!
Trade the kids in for the AD200b. Should get a good deal on them. Dave

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Bass sounds good and the Entwistle sound was excellent. Nice touch. Realy liking the band. Amp sounds good too. What cab you using ? Dave
-
ACS for me. Not the cheapest but for me the most suitable option. Dave
-
Started with 4 and after a few ventures into 6 stringers then went for few 5 stringers for a Prog project i am now back to my simple Fender Jazz bass cause it just seems to fit most of the styles i play. Dave
-
+1 for the tiny GK MB200 with any decent lightweight cab. So small it almost fits in your pocket. You could check out the Markbass combo. Seen a few 2nd hand ones around for circa £400. I use mine at home and if you add the extension cab its more than capable of coping with decent sized gigs without PA support. Dave

What's the signal chain for your core tone?
dmccombe7 replied to Painy's topic in General Discussion
Preffered :- Fender Jazz into Ampeg SVT4 Pro into either Berg HT322 or Orange OBC 115 & 210 Mostly used as Ampeg unreliable is my GK 1001RBii head with Berg cab. I like a touch of compressor too. Ampeg has built in comp. Opto comp with GK head. Depending on style of music i may use my Fender PJ deluxe. Dave -
I'm impressed Jim. Being an owner and a fan of Bergantino cabs its nice to know the man himself is listening to customers concerns. Excellent. Dave

So I gave a band member both barrels..............
dmccombe7 replied to police squad's topic in General Discussion
Bit of an odd one. I'd expect everyone to keep their own calender but also expect some kind of communication between all the band members and whats coming up in future. In my opinion i think the full band are at fault as you are not the only one that can remind the drummer of gigs. You've taken it on yourself to tell everyone. Why did the other members not remind him. Full band share this. Drummer really should be more organised. No excuse for that. Is this a regular occurence with him. If so time to move on i would think. If its a one off its maybe a bit extreme to hurl abusive language at him specifically. Dave -
