1. Love this post. I did that for years just playing the stuff i enjoy listening to. Nothing beats it but at tender age of 50 i decided i wanted to be in a band and gig again. I'm now in a band with typical age group 65-70. I'm the youngest at 56 The music is not my usual style but its great to play in a band that just wants to play what they enjoy and want to play. Majority of them also play in club / pub / function bands too. Its a compromise for me to get people i like with absolutely no hassle against music i enjoy playing but would not have been my 1st choice. Don't sell the gear as pretty sure something will pop up out the blue or you'll miss the gigging and band thing and start looking on various sites. I also live in country and travel 40 miles each way for a reahearsal every week and any gigs but i'm enjoying it so much that its not an issue for me. I even enjoy the rehearsals as a mates get together for a laugh. Dave
 2.
SansAmp RBI and RPM (parallel) to the Peavey IPR1600 power amp. image url upload
Just curious how your rig is wired up with the 2 pre-amps and what cabs do you use. Is the power amp bridge for mono output. It just sounds like a really interesting set up. Cheers Dave
 3. +1 for the Fishman. I was very impressed by this pedal when i heard it on youtube. Dave
 4. Nice and bet it feels a lot lighter on the shoulder than the Warwicks too. Enjoy the new bass. Dave
 5. Preferred sound is cross between Geddy Lee and Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple era) with fingerstyle (no plectrum tho) Current sound for covers band is somewhere between or like these using a Fender PJ. http://youtu.be/jP2EvSNHqh0 Dave
 6. I use to play fingerstyle very aggressively in various rock and prog bands over the years. I used to find that when i started playing with a new band after few mths off my fingers on right hand would tighten and cramp up. I've been at rehearsals where my left hand cramped that much i was almost at stage i couldn't loosen my grip on the neck. I had to do something if i wanted to keep playing and took advice from fellow basschatters and turned the volume up and played lighter. It worked a treat and an unforseen bonus for me was i found i could play faster and more accurately. I didn't lose the aggressive style completely but i no longer got aches or cramps. If you are changing your style of playing maybe do it in small stages at a time. Dave
 7. As mentioned see GP to be absolutely sure and that you aren't making things worse. Sounds like you've over-done it a bit. At 32 its unlikely to be athritis or similar. After you described what you've been doing with your fretting etc i would say its more than likely a strain of some kind. I would def see your GP tho. Dave
 8. What age group are you. ? Is it just the one knuckle ? Athritis usually happens on both hands i was told. Its rare to get just one knuckle. Does the joint feel warm to touch compared with other joints in other hand. ? Any swelling or lumps of the knuckle area, ? Have you overdone your playing technique by holding down too hard ? Have you been doing anything else that would possibly cause a joint injury ? (won't go into detail there ) If worrying you that much go see your GP. He will check the hand joints and take blood sample which should confirm either way. Hope this helps but would def suggest GP visit to confirm Dave
 9. Went for a WAL in 80's but this was my 2nd choice. Gorgeous looking and they had fantastic reviews too. GLWTS Dave
 10. Highest for me would be Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane Lowest would be anything after Station to Station (with the odd single exception) up to The Next Day and Blackstar (and again not all tracks were brilliant on these 2 albums). Afraid i just couldn't get into that weird metal sound he was into for few years. Loved all his early stuff incl Uncle Arthur, Laughing Gnome thru Space Oddity and Ziggy periods. Think i liked every track from his early years but i just struggled to like a full album after Station to Station. Dave
 11. Done - good luck and all the very best with it. Dave
 12.
It was on shop well for less. Interestingly, the Duracells they used were branded, 'Simply Duracell'. I recon that they are a cheaper, less powerful, Duracell than the usual ones and if they'd used power plus of ultra power then the results may well have been a bit different.
Think this was my original query. What makes the "Simply Duracell" batteries any different than "Power Plus". They will both still show 9.6V off load. What in the manufacturing process gives you a battery that lasts longer ? I can find a data sheet for the Professional 9V battery but nothing on the standard Duracell 9V battery that would allow a decent comparison. Dave
 13.
How do the Lidl ones compare to Duracells price wise?
From memory when i bought Aerocell batteries from Lidl i think they were at least half the price of Duracell. My only worry is that one failed within few days in smoke alarm. That might just be a rare duffer. Dave
 14.
I had to change a battery mid gig 2 weekends ago. No sweat I thought as the bass had on of those tilting battery compartments so it's 5 seconds of a job if that. I had an RS branded battery in my pocket (as I always do just in case). However once the RS battery was inserted the battery compartment wouldn't quite shut properly. Still no problem switched the bass to passive and off we went. When I got home I had the chance to investigate further. It turns out that the RS branded item that I had taken out of a pedal was about 1mm taller than the Duracells I routinely use. Needless to say these have been removed from my spares box.
That's worth noting as my Fender has a tilting battery box that also has a cover over the bottom of battery. I noted they were a good fit but 1mm taller battery just wouln't fit in there. Dave
 15.
The ones I have now are from Lidl and are called 'aerocell' 6lp3146. The only manufacturer lidted on them reads Lidl Stiftung & Co, Stiftsbergstr.1, D-74167 Neckarsulm. They are in my bass, smoke detectors etc. AA batteries I use rechargeable Imedion, very long shelf-life and reportedly 15000 recharge cycles.
I bought 2 off them for my smoke detectors and one failed within days. Checked the voltage and it was 9.4V off load. Put a Duracell in and its been fine. As soon as i put any load on this battery it dies instantly. Maybe just a dodgy one as the other has been fine but has put me off buying the Aerocell ones. Dave
 16.
I use lidl/aldi 9v batteries. Last more than a year. I typically Change batteries and strings in one go, if they need changing or not. Never one fail on me. Someone told me most 9v batteries roll out of the same factory, with different branding on the outside.
Our local Aldi or Lidl have different manufacturers - what ones are you using ??? The battery comparison on morning TV showed that Lidl batteries outlasted even the duracells. Just can't remember the manufacturer. Dave
 17.
I could be wrong but I think the only difference is that they come in bulk packs in plain (ish) packaging as opposed to fancy single blister packs. They are cheaper as well.
Surely its not as basic as that but it wouldn't surprise me. Dave
 18.
Can't answer 1 or 2 but I use Duracell rechargeables in my basses and a block power supply if I am using pedals, there may or may not be batteries still inside, I can't remember!
How long do they last before charge needed. ?
 19. Went to change batteries in my recently bought Fender and it had Duracell Professional 9V batteries fitted. I've never seen these before. I normally use Duracell 9V batteries but i now have some question marks about batteries in general 1. what is the most suitable Duracell battery to use in my bass for long life and why ? 2. what are the differences between Duracell standard, power plus and now professional batteries ? 3. what batteries are you using in your bass ? 4. what batteries are you using in effects pedals ? Dave
 20.
Things have taken an upturn here. One evening last week at 6 pm, I got a phone call from a keys player I used to play with: "Our bassist has left. We're rehearsing tonight, gig in 5 weeks. Can you help?" Quick meal, jump in the car and 90 minutes later I'm standing in their rehearsal room. I was OK with songs I knew, but hopeless with ones I didn't know, with the guitarist saying "I'll play barre chords so you can read my fingers" Errr, no, I can't do that on the hoof. Sorry. I was gobsmacked when they asked me to join! They're an established functions band playing to a good standard. The other people in the band have played together for ages, and I played with the keys player for 2 years, so maybe all the "singing off different hymn sheets" issues have been flushed out. I'm learning the setlist as fast as I can. Playing the songs I already know, plus the easy new ones, gives me 16. Only 15 more to go, but they're all new to me. YouTube's going to get some hammer over the next few weeks. So, onwards and upwards. First proper rehearsal tomorrow night.
Just never give up. There's always a silver lining just around the corner. Well done and hope the gig goes well as i'm sure it will. Make some crib notes and keep them nearby during the gig. Keep us all posted on how it goes. Good luck altho you won't need luck. Skill and commitment to success is all you need.........and being able to play of course. Dave
 21.
So, I guess if I had a roady, a bass tech and a driver I'd be all good again. Blue
So how much will you be paying for that roadie, bass tech, driver position. I could be enticed you know I do believe the daily commute to your gigs might be an issue Blue. Dave
 22.
Yup. Hiram's band isn't bad from what I've seen of the promo material either. I'd pay to see either band in the flesh. The only time I saw Bowie live was at Slane Castle on the Glass Spider tour in 1987.
Saw him at Sunderland on that tour. It was OK Peter Frampton on guitar was a surprise. Dave
 23.
The name of our band is ChangesTwoBowie (www.changestwobowie.co.uk) This is our singer on Stars In Their Eyes.... ....and this is a track from one of our recent gigs.... http://soundcloud.co...nners-final-mix There are other tracks in the same SoundCloud stream.
Any gigs in Scotland. ? If not there are a few around. Lanark Memorial Hall Motherwell Concert or Theatre hall Dave
 24. Those EICH amps look really nice. Review up soon i hope. Enjoy and have fun. Dave
 25. Aalways just use signal path. Not sure advantage of effects lop unless its rack mounted effects and can all be done in the rack kind of thing. I'm def no expert in effects tho. Dave
