I have a mixture that i pick and choose depending on type of band i'm playing with. Have the Roland GT-6B mfx. that i tend to use for compressor, tuner and different bass amp tones. I have main channel as dry with only the comp used. Next channel up from that set to sound Ampeg valve tone with a Rik so it has that high end click and slight distortion on the 15" cab emulator. Like to think its my early Glenn Hughes Deep Purple era sound. Comp on this too. Other channels i have set up specifically for my own enjoyment are echo, reverb, for fretless use. Like some of the other channels but very rarely use for more than above items. On the other hand i have a Polytune, Aphex comp, that i nearly always have with me and on occasion add TC Echo a7 TC Reverb as required. Current band is blues base funk / rock so tuner and comp really all i use. Dave

I auditioned for a Glam Rock covers band and was given the job and asked to learn a set list of 34 songs in 3weeks for first 2 gigs on the Fr & Sat. The plan was to have a couple of rehearsals but unfortunately singer Dad passed away and we just couldn't fit it in. He still wanted to go ahead with his commitments and we did the gigs no rehearsals. We talked thru the songs after first week on phone and found they were playing in different keys from actual songs. Had to relearn several songs in their key. Gigs went really well and i was complimented both by the band and audience and organisers both as a bassist and band. All great i thought. Then the following week he decided to change the set list and wanted me to learn another 20 songs for 10days time for another gig. I had to apologize but this was a bit too much for me and couldn't keep this level of commitment. We parted on very good terms but it did explain why they had been thru 17 bassists in their history. The 2 gigs i did play with them fealt more like a basic jam session than being part of a band. They had been together for approx 8-10 yrs. They had the attitude that because they play every week and usually 2 gigs every week they didn't need to rehearse which was ok for them as they already knew all the songs. I had never played any of the songs before. Current band rehearse every week altho its more for fun and social gathering of mates than anything else. They don't want to play every week either. Dave

Depends on gig, stage size etc. I like to have a spare bass but failing that a spare battery and set of strings will do fine. I'm a great believer in not wasting time between songs. Its a vibe killer when you have agood rockin band but they doodle, tune every stop or talk between every song and usually a load of crap that means nothing and the audience don't care anyways. Dave

Some bands that don't appear to be very well known or popular in UK Canadian band SAGA have been following since late 70's and still playing world tours. Bassist was main songwriter and original member. Have to say i kinda like that Gibson bass and if priced circa £800 i'd certainly give it a try if looking at basses in that style. You could say there were better basses with same shape but then again why do people by Fenders when there are so many other "better" basses of that shape. The Gibson name is still a good selling point. Of course if it fealt like a plank of wood and sounded crap then that's a different story. On looks alone i would certainly put it on my list of maybe's and one worth a try. Dave

I have looke at them over past few years but always seemd to go in another direction. Not really sure why. Would have to say i've never seen a bad word for them. Seen them used by many well known session bassists at some very large venues. Dave

I just don't get it at all. If i want a new bass i want it to look like a new bass and as you say few yrs down the line i don't want to have to take to luthier to have it resprayed properly. Complete waste of some very nice basses in my opinion. Dave

I'm same here as i bought Kilo when they came out around 2012 i think and it didn't work straight out the box. Full refund by Thomann no quibble at all. Had no response from Hartke at all. No response from Larry H either when i contacted him by email provided by Talkbass Forum guys. Would never buy anything from Hartke. Have to say that i played thru a Hartke LH500 & 2 off 1x15 XL cabs at a gig few weeks ago and it was an impressive sound with my Fender PJ Deluxe but i still wouldn't buy a Hartke because of the reliabilty and lack of customer service. Sorry to burst the bubble a bit here but back in 2012 our guitarist bought 2 off these for our Deep Purple tribute band and both failed in same way. Lost the volume after a lot of weird crackling od noises. They both went within a few weeks of each other while being used in rehearsal studios. We weren't too impressed with them altho the tone from them was pretty impressive for such a cheap amp. He sent them back, got full refund and then bought himself a 2nd hand Marshall head of some model i can't really remember now. Hope yours is a lot better. Certainly looks good with the chilli cab and from your feedback sounds good too. I'm looking forward to updates on it. Dave

yep same here. Great portable rig and competes well with bigger Ampeg SVT i have both in volume and tone. I find it also cuts thru the mix far better. Have fun. Dave

I have the 121p combo with ext cab and its as loud as my Ampeg SVT4 Pro. Used it in larger venues circa 150-200 without PA. I was depping and when i turned the amp on and not even at high volumes the sound guy said it sounded great on its own and no need to DI. My wife also said the sound out front was excellent and could hear the bass very clearly (Jazz bass). Compare that to using my other main rig at that time of Ampeg SVT4 Pro and Berg HT322 and my back loves me now. Tonally i found you could get a "similar" tone from the Markbass rig. Dave

Recently tried the Orange with a Hartke 8x10 cab and it was probably my ideal tone. Deep warm lows with nice mid punch. The feeling of depth was quite amazing. However i did find that changing the EQ didn't have a huge effect on tone. It was a very old Orange amp tho and appeared to have a frequency control and a boost/cut rather than the standard AD200b model so not sure what model it was. ? I have to say i love that Orange tone and have since bought the OBC115 cab with view to finally get the amp and a 10 or 12 cab but depend on cost at the time. Had Matamp power amps years ago and they had similar tones. Afraid i've never even heard of the others you mentione. Dave

I take that back. Just watched the 1972 live version and its a Gibson EB3 (twin pick up) and its exactly that sound so my apologies. Jack Bruce did have that same sound to be honest. Dave

Kinda sounds more like his Fender to me but still overdriven thru amp. He did play his basses quite hard and that helped with the attack. Dave
