1.
interesting thread. Im very tempted to get the Q2N, it looks ideal, but with 4 GoPros in the house, and 3 DSLR's its a bit overkill.
Looks like there's a new version of mine. I have the Q2 HD and the new version i think is the Q2N HD. I find the Q2 HD so simple to just put somewhere with half decent view of the band and it has an auto volume control and all just works dead easy. Does run thru batteries right enough. Typically 2 hrs out of 2 duracell AA's Dave
 2. Just heard the passing of John Wetton. Such a tragic loss. He has been a huge influence to me. Sorely missed by so many Dave
 3. EDITED :- just found mine was the Q2 HD and not the newer version Q2N HD Zoom Q2 HD for me and it does ok. It has a zoom function too. Does have a limited angle of view tho but otherwise it does a pretty good job of "on the spot" recording. Youtube provides enhancements if required when uploaded. Dave
 4. New band Big Change by Peter Green. Old band - Burn by Deep Purple. I like the idea of a knock em dead first song. New band a bit more relaxed style of music. Dave
 5. Cheaper with a tiny spot of nail varnish. Don't drown it tho as you might need to adjust string height at some point. If that fails i would move onto a tiny spot of Loctite. Dave
 6.
Different gauges available Dave but I am using 50 - 100 on my FSR 60'S Classic Burgundy Mist Jazz. Quite an unusual set but currently doing 50's/60's and Elvis stuff, these strings work well for a double bass approximation, wit a touch of SUB on my RM Ashdown.

I've just put a set of 45-100 Chromes on the jazz, as I had them lying around. If I get on with them and like the sound I may invest in a heavier set, I usually use 50-105 rounds on everything. I've got nickel 45-105 on new Fender i got but i find the tension a bit tight. Will wear them out before going down to 40-100 again. The bass i tried last night was flatwound but he was playing older style rock / blues / pop material like early stones material and it suited the music. Might try a cheaper set on my jazz just to see how they sound. They def felt nice on the fingers. Dave
7. Nice basses. I kinda yearn for a fretted 6er too. Easier for playing chords than the fretless i have. Did try one of these few yrs back but found the string spacing quite narrow. How are you finding it. ? Good luck and all the best with new bass. Dave
 8.
I rather like these Dave, work very well on my jazz http://www.ebay.co.u...WwAAOSwgApXBPVr
Cheers Karl Tried a set of flats on a Gibson SG bass last night and they did feel good. On the link it says gauge is 40-105 but on the pack it says 45-105 What were you using out of curiosity Dave
 9.
I don't suppose you used an iPhone for the picture, did you? I think that they may not put some info into the photos, as I've had it happen of late when I've uploaded photos to tinypic. I've found the answer is to open it on your PC (in my case a Mac mini) and save it as-is; it then uploads fine. Oh, and nice bass, btw.
I used a camera and saved the photo to PC then rotated it to get right way up. Saved correct way up on my PC but when i then loaded to BC it turned again. Looks like it copied over the original file rather than the rotated one. Dave
 10. Liking that colour. Very nice. Have fun. Karl a top guy who also suffers badly from GAS. Dave
 11. 1st gig with new band last night and decided to give the Deluxe a wee trial run. Not rehearsed with it in a band situation yet. Also going thru someone else's bass rig of Hartke LH500 and 2off 15" Hartke cabs. Sound was deep but enough mid to just hear the bass thru the mix. Think the 15" are a little too muddy for me. Would have preferred 12's or 10's but bass adapted quite well. Stage was a bit cramped as it was guitarists birthday party and there were 3 bands playing that night. All in all bass did feel good and tonal range was there to bring in the jazz pick up as and when i needed a little more punch. Mostly ran the bass and amp flat and when needed just erred towards the J pick up a touch or a little boost on the mid control. Several good comments on the bass sound and how much they enjoyed the band. All seems to have been a good night and i'm pretty chuffed with the way the bass behaved. Needs a little fine tuning to get right but that will happen over next few weeks as i get more used to it. Here's a wee pic from the night. Dave
 12.
You're not an Elvis fan are you? Because I've got some bad news.

My internet is a bit slow !@@
Absolutely brilliant guys. Couldn't stop laughing at those comments. Dave
 13.
Welcome to the Mex P/J club Dave. Although mine are passive, every one of this Mex Deluxe Series I've had, has been a great workhorse bass. Enjoy
Cheers Karl To be honest i'm kinda liking it in the passive mode altho there's no tone control in passive mode on this one. Nice feel to it. Need to make a few little adjustments tomorrow. Finding the P pick up needs tweaked as the E and G string are a little quiet with slight tone change from A and D strings. Sorts itself when you press the pick up down a bit to even the response. Also some of the frets i'm gonna smooth the ends off a little. Not too bad but i hate feeling fret ends on a bass even if its very slight. Other than that the tonal changes available are unreal. Why did i not do this before Made me think about changing pick ups on my Jazz to get more depth. I believe there are pick ups out there that are wound same way as a Precision but in a row to fit Jazz basses. Might as well change the pots to Vol, Pan, Tone on my Jazz too. Dave
 14.
I've got a Mex thinline Tele which I bought c2000. To this day it remains pretty much my favourite skinny stringer I've ever played. My ex's dad had a fairly impressive collection of top end Gibsons and Fenders which we used to jam on from time to time. I wouldn't swap my mex Tele for any of them. That experience has given me complete confidence in Mexican Fender instruments, only reinforced by the mex deluxe precision special that arrived to live with me recently.
How you finding your new toy Cato. You've had it over week now. ? Dave
 15. Got one of each so i'm good but i like the title of this. Dave
 16. My new bass arrived this morning from GAK. Surf Pearl finish with rosewood neck Fender Deluxe Precision. I tried the sunburst one last week and was very impressed and decided i liked this one even better. Straight out the box and it only needed a minor tweak of the P pick up on the E string. Neck and action feel ok but was told by GAK to allow the bass time to warm up before making any adjustments to neck etc. Many thanks to Sean from GAK for all his help and advice. To be honest the action and neck feel just about right for me. I normally set up a bass to Fender set up spec anyways and tweak from there as needed. Colour and finish is pretty good and can't fault the bass at all so far. Was a bit worried about it being a MIM bass however nothing to worry about as i would say this compares well with any other Fender i have or have tried. Nothing compares to a Fender P pick up. I've tried other mfr's basses and for some odd reason a Fender just seems warmer and more depth to me. Add in a touch of that Jazz pick up and WOW this i great. Bass tone adj is pretty powerfull and don't really see me needing much on that one. Treble control has quite a light tonal adj to me but you can hear the top end roll in / out when used. Mid control has the most dramatic effect off all and can change your sound quite a bit going from boost to cut. Very nice. The controls all feel good quality pots. Nice smooth feel to them unlike my Jazz bass where the pots have always felt that little bit "loose". Will maybe do a proper review once i have played a few times and gigging it tomorrow night with my new band so that will put it thru its paces. Here's a quick pic just to let you see the colour of this. Think you either love it or hate it to be honest but i'm loving it. Not sure why pic has rotated as its saved ok on my PC. Cheers Dave
 17. Have you looked at the Vintage Basses. Some guitarists i know have bought their guitars and swear they are better than any Gibson Les Paul they've had for playability and weight. I do remember their basses getting some pretty good reviews and think they do a Jazz type bass. Maybe worth a look. Thomann circa £260 Dave
 18. I recently tried both the TM & VM versions in Guitar Guitar and didn't think there was much difference between them. Both were well made altho i'm not a fan of relic bass finishing but both sounded exceptionally full and a more modern sound than traditional Jazz or Precision. It was just a quick trial with them and perhaps i was using both Pick-ups to get the sound i liked but honestly don't think you'll be disappointed with it. Dave
 19. I've only just been introduced to the Allman material and so impressed by it i'm surprised i have never listened to them before. Such a shame to lose a key member of the Allman brothers. Dave
 20. Thanks Ian. I've tried the 4x10 ported with standard MB head and its pretty nice. Dave
 21. That was a great VID clip. The full band were pretty impressive. Bass was very crisp and clear but then again Overwater basses do tend to be that way. (I have 2) Wish i could play that good. Those vocals were damned impressive i have to say. Out of curiosity what amp was used that night ? I was sure i saw a Markbass cab behind Ian. Dave
 22.
45-105 again. Currently D'Addario Pro Steels. I put my choice down to Rotosound being the most widely available strings in the 1980s (at least in my memory!). That was their standard gauges. I tried different ones over the years but eventually just stuck to what I was comfortable with. In the early 90s I used Dean Markley Blue Steel which I seem to remember had a .47 gauge G and once tried some Superwound 40-90 but I broke them - only string breaks ever.
Superwound string was the one and only string i ever broke too. Used a superwound low B on my Overwater to brighten tone a bit with Overwater standard string gauges. Now back to full Overwater strings mainly cause i won them at bass bash raffle Dave
 23.
35-95 Elites Stainless Steel.
My Warwick came with Elites back in 89 and i used them for quite a few years. Changed mfr but still like 35-95 gauge on Warwick for some reason. Just seems to sound and feel better Think i have elixir strings on that one. Dave
 24. I've used Bahco tools but not sure about my Allen keys. Got a feeling they might be Stanley. Dave
