Group hug.
I like that play on words "group" hug Basschat has cheered me up no end over the few years i've been on here. Dave
thats a very decent thing to say Dave.
Its just nice to be nice and sounds like things are pretty low for Bubinga5 at the moment. Bubinga5 has posted some great stuff on here and he's offered some good advice and help to me over the few years i've been here. Life is better when friends can be helped even if its just a few words of support. Dave

Yep pretty sure we've all done something daft after a few beers. Not many are man enough to come back and admit it so well done Bubinga5 and well done Blue for doing the decent thing too. Hope things pick up soon for Bubinga5. Sounds like its not a good place to be. At the end of the day we are all here to support each other. I have a Peavey 5er or Epi Thunderbird Bubinga5 could have if it helps. I don't use them to be honest. All the very best Dave

Guitar Guitar Glasgow - New Bass Department is Great!
dmccombe7 replied to Crawford13's topic in General Discussion
Was in shop few weeks back before its official opening mainly wasting time while wife was shopping and was hugely impressed with both by the availabilty of some great gear and staff that don't try to show off their slapping skills (which i absolutely hate in bass shops) and just pleasant and helpful guys. I was trying out a Fender precision deluxe altho wasn't buying. Still the staff were helpful wehn i told them and offered up other possible choices like Sanberg which were nice. Yep i would have to agree this is a pleasant surprise and somewhere for me to hide on those occasional shopping day in Glasgow. Dave -
Kiss/O2 over egging the pudding somewhat!
dmccombe7 replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
I was a fan in 70's / early 80's and think that was their best period of rock music. Kiss are about putting on a show. That's what they've always aimed for. To entertain rather than just stand on stage with guitars they give you a lot more to watch. No-one else had ever done that kind of thing or taken it to that level so i think they deserve the credit for taking rock concerts a step further. They are getting on a bit but they also keep themselves fit and before and during a tour they employ personal trainers to ensure they keep fit enough to maintain their show. I wish i had gone years ago when it was the original band because they are the ones i grew up liking and i've been put off because its not the same guys anymore on gtr and drums. Don't get me wrong i think Paul and Gene were the main focus of the show but wouldn't feel the same for me seeing them now. All credit to them for what they've achieved over the years. Dave -

Crack Converters Pitsea Yamaha BB1100S £250?
dmccombe7 replied to Paul S's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Buy it for me then. I'll be happy with that. Dave -
My 5 string NG2 is the nicest 5 string neck i've played altho current band don't need a 5 string. Wouldn't part with it tho. Dave
I don't need a motorbike. My other hobby is driving trains for a heritage railway. 266 Litre diesel engine this weekend
Now i'm jealous. That sounds like great fun. Dave
Have you ever been down to my town Bridgnorth? the Severn Valley Railway is fantastic, mostly steam but does have a few diesels, and my local is The Railwayman's Arms which is on the platform of Bridgnorth station and is quite unique as it has never closed since it first opened in 1861. I'm the youngest in our band at 57 and like most people have a few health issues altho nothing i can't work around. I was playing with a Glam Rock covers band and when i retired at 56 i thought this would help take up some of my free time. I've never played in a band that gigs 2-3 times a week and found it too demanding on my free time. I gave that up and now play with a group of guys that range from me at 57 to guitarist at 70. They nearly all play in at least 1 -2 other bands and show no signs of slowing up. We intend gigging maybe once a month or thereabouts so no pressure at all. I'm lovin it. Bands are and always have been a hobby for me and never a job and when it feels like a job then its time to change things. I now have my free time to spend on other hobbies and keeping myself a little fit without going daft ie cycling, exercise training and walking all dependant on weather. During summer i am out in garden pottering around. Don't give up. Try and find like minde musicians in your area and even just go along for a jam session. Dave

***SOLD***ORANGE OBC210 MINI £300***SOLD***
dmccombe7 replied to eddiehoffmann's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Took delivery of one of Eddie's 2x10 cabs today and it sounds absolutely fantastic. Little deeper than my TE 2x10 but its far better built and the mids to hi-end is pretty sharp and clear using a GK1001RBii Condition is like new so if you are thinking about the other cab you won't be disappointed with the sound and the condition Eddie keeps his gear in. Great transaction and no issues. Eddie is one of the true gents on BC so buy with 110% confidence. Thanks again Eddie Dave -
Bought Orange 2x10 cab from Eddie. He agreed to split the cabs for me as i was only looking for one to match my 115 cab. Fantastic price and he went the full hog and arranged a courier for me as well. Comms was perfect and he did exactly what he said he would and cab arrived when he said it would. Took me 15mins to unpack the cab. It was so well packaged there was absolutely no risk of damage in transit. Must have cost a fortune in bubble wrap. Cab is in perfect as new condition and sounds fantastic on its own. Can highly recommend Eddie. Wish all sellers were this good. Doesn't get any better than this. Deal in absolute confidence. All the best Eddie. Hope you get the new rig you're looking for. Dave

Orange OBC115 gave me that depth of sound that's been missing from my tone for many years. Probably since using 10's and 12's on their own or lightweight cabs. OBC115 is a solid reasonably heavy but liftable proper bass cab that just does what its meant to do. Provide low down depth for a bass. Dave
So he does.Times change.I thought orange was the least popular bass gear? Damn i missed this one. Was in few weeks ago trying out a Fender Precision Deluxe PJ and guy (think it was Paul) was very friendly, helpful and chatty. Not pushy and not trying to show off with the bass i was wanting to look at which was just quite refreshing change. He set the amp up flat, plugged the bass in, tuned it for me, set the controls all flat, explained what they all did and left me to it. Came back 10-15mins later and asked what i thought started chatting and he asked if i had tried a few other manufacturers which he brought over. It was a good experience all round. Not the cheapest shop to be honest but you do get to try the bass you buy rather than on-line. All good news for Glasgow Dave

Nationwide would need to be more central rather than 400miles away in London. Its not even central for England let alone UK. I usually visit my local bash in Moffat when i can. Like the idea of Manchester as its reasonably easy to get to and a bit more central. We've discussed one up here in Scotland but somewhere more central between Glasgow, Edinburgh, Perth and Inverness but seemed to fade away like a lot of the great ideas. I guess someone really needs to have the time and effort to make it happen rather than talk about it ...........ah well maybe someday Dave

Not sure if its been suggested before and might just be too big for the forum but what about a venue list divided into either areas or types of band kinda thing. Perhaps mentioning size of venue and whether they require booking via agents etc. I hear a lot of bands asking what places to play in a specific area. Just a thought. Worthwhile or not ??? Dave

The greatest bass lines with the fewest notes?

Summer Nights - Grease Someone was gonna mention it Dave -
Altho i'm not a huge fan i'd recommend Ashdown combo of some kind. They do what they say they'll do. Maybe even a 2nd hand Trace Elliot combo. Hartke gear i'm not a fan either but they do make some good gear that many people like and swear by them. Laney gear is ok for home use too altho don't have much experience with them. Peavey is another option. You don't specify a budget or what your intention is ie home use or plan to eventually gig so difficult making a decent suggestion. Can you offer more details for others to comment on. Dave
Do all Precisions sound the same? They can do. If that's what you want, but listen to JJ Burnell and Bob Babbitt and you'll hear that Precision basses will also let you sound totally unique. If you are a "no style" amateur player, a "meat and potatoes" semi pro player or a top pro player a P bass let's you shine. That's pretty impressive for a bass that "sounds the same". The question is, is using a P bass a bad thing if the spread of tone is so limited? With many of the hit and successful records of the last 60 years being recorded on P basses, and the high percentage of touring bands out there today using P basses it seems that using a P bass was and is still a good thing. I guess all those players might be thinking they sound different to the next guy or they'd probably be playing something else.
That's a great VID comparison. I could clearly hear the diferences in basses and personal fav was the MIJ on the isolated track but when it came to the full band sound the Larkin seemed to be very slightly clearer but they all sounded pretty much the same and so difficult to tell between them. IMHO that is. Thanks for posting Dave

OK, this is a possibly weird question about gigging...
dmccombe7 replied to Telebass's topic in General Discussion
My wife goes to all gigs. She historically has played a part doing the lighting desk and effects etc in rock or Prog bands. She enjoys the same music as me and altho she has had to sit on her own during the gig she doesn't seem to mind. We do tend to do everything together even outside the band, cycling, hill walking, gardening, motorbikes and even shopping so its kind of expected from both of us and after 28yrs together we must be doing something right. Edit to add that if i was playing twice a week she might decide it was too much for her and i wouldn't object if she wanted to stay at home more. Dave
