Your favourite multi effects.? or single pedals..?
dmccombe7 replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Singles. For the simple reason that they're easier to edit 'on the fly'. We've all been there, drummer's late so there's no time for a real soundcheck, and halfway through the first set you step on (what should be) the big box of doom/funk/wobble* and room acoustics turn what should be a mind-blowing aural assault into the sound of a peanut rattling round in an empty yoghurt pot. Times like that it's easier to fix it with individual controls than to start trying to find the correct submenu on an LCD display/3" screen... * delete as applicable. Or play them all together
I'm with Paul 5 on this one. I have the Roland GR6B and altho its a great piece of kit it is fiddly when things need changed in a live setting. I've now gone for individual pedals and currently using TC Electronics Delay and Reverb which are easy to adjust, have some presets and just give a nice unflavoured sound. Using an Aphex compressor because its a simple easy to use unit with only 2 knobs. Does a great job. Dave -
2-4-6-8 Motorway by Tom Robinson or Hold Your Head Up by Argent were probably mine back in the day. Good songs but mmmmmm. Alright Now by Free is pretty simple and could be seen to be boring except the mid section but its such a great song and great feel to it you just wanna give it your all and go for it. Dave

Do the big name acts make cock-ups like us mortals?

I remember seeing Trevor Bolder play with Uriah Heep at Glasgow and during a solo spot he tripped backwards on his lead and landed on his ass but didn't miss a beat. That's professionalism. Or was it pre-recorded ??? Naw don't waste the memory for me. To be fair you could hear the strings vibrate as he landed LOL Dave -

Damn i can't access this from work but now i'm even more desperate to leave work LOL Dave -
Up front and ask them what they are looking for. Sometimes song writers have an idea of how they want the song (and bass) to sound. Band i'm in is all originals and the guitarist has recorded all the bass parts already with some really nice runs but when i asked them what they wanted from me they said it was totally up to me but there were a few parts they needed specific bass lines to retain the feel they were looking for. Fortunately the gusy are very easy to work with and i've made it clear that if i do something they don't like then they should tell me right away and i will change to suit. Very open, up front and also very rewarding. I initially stuck to basic lines and as i became more familiar with their material and how they played and wrote each song i started to add or change things slightly. As mentioned previously add some feel to the music with light touches or aggression as and when needed. All helps and it lets them know what your capabilities are and they can then write material around what each member is capable of playing. That can only be good for the band and hopefully an audience. All the very best of luck with it. Sounds exciting. Dave

Sorry to hear this. Was a big influence on my style and sound since hearing him with Gordon Giltrap late 70's / early 80's with that sharp WAL bass sound. Sad sad news. Sympathy to his family and all who knew him. Dave

My Warwick Thumb 89 from new but my 50th birthday present from my wife is a close 2nd an Overwater 6 string custom fretless. Not my most used basses tho which would be my Jazz bass. Dave -
I always thought it was Malcolm who basically managed the band certainly within the band he had the main input. Always sad to hear this kind of news. Best wishes to him and his family as this must have been hard on everyone. Tough choice. Dave

SOLD: Bergantino AE112, with padded cover.
dmccombe7 replied to pantherairsoft's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I have 2 of these and they do cope very well with most amps. I've used mine with Genz Streamliner 600, Warwick Profet, Ampeg SVT, GK MB200, GK 1001RBii and they are loud and clear with no distortion noted in fact they sound better when driven hard. Great cabs. I also have the big Berg HT322 i bought from Karlfer as a comparison. Dave -
WHOW what a price for one of these. I tried one in a studio with my own amps and it was rich, full and clear. Was really stunned by the sound but i've more Berg cabs than i know what to do with so couldn't justify this i'm afraid. Good luck and hope it shifts soon especially at this price and condition. All the best Dave

Went to school and same bars as Doogie White vocalist ex-Rainbow and various other rock bands. Down to Earth and keeps in touch with some of his old band mates to this day. Also Davie Pentland backing vocalist / guitarist for Hue & Cry many moons ago. Then there were the River Detectives who i briefly met a few times with Davy Pentland who was a pal of theirs. Do these count ? Dave

Gorgeous basses. Had one when they first came out and Jack Bruce was using them. Fantastic range of tones and very sharp and clear across its tonal range. As you say a great bass to play. Afraid Kent a little too far for me too. Good luck with the sale - has to be one of the nicer ones i've seen for sale in a while especially at that price. Dave -
CC Music in Glasgow have one at £399. Not sure if that's cheap enough but you could call them and ask if the can give a better price. I got a good price on my Peavey. They were good at matching any other shops like GAK and Thomann. Dave

I have a few Mono straps. The first one i bought was for my Thumb bass and it stopped the slight neck dive too depending on which version you buy. I've since bought another couple to replace older straps. They are good but i think the Comfort Strap is cheaper and probably do same if not better. I did have the Bass Centre version of the comfort strap but the plastic link snapped hence buying the Mono's. The Comfort Strap original versions have metal links i believe. Have a look at Bass Direct site for some better details. They sell both and sure Mark will be able to advise more. Dave

Not able to open the link at work Badass but will have a look tonight and maybe make the effort to go just for the sake of seeing Mr Hamm live. Its not a great venue for bands as its a floor level stage so unless you are at front you generally can't see the bands. They do have large screens up around the venue tho to make sure you can still see the bands from anywhere in venue. Its quite a small venue tho. Thanks for advice. Dave

Just found that Stu Hamm is playing with a band named Carl Verheyen at a local-ish venue. Any thoughts whether it might be worth a visit. I know him as a bass soloist and thought it might be worth a viewing just for that. I might have put this in the wrong section but it was more a general question than a gig advert so wasn't too sure. ?? Dave

Loads of stuff in there that i used to listen to. Some nice reminders of better times (musically of course ) Just so i haven't lost my marbles ! Was Kim Mitchell not Max Webster or with them. I'm sure it was them that supported Rush on Hemispheres or Farewell tour ?? all good tho. Dave
