mine was returned under warranty via Mark at Bass Direct to Fender UK who were exceptionally fast at returning to me within a few days. I was very impressed both with Mark and Fender UK. Mines was blue led had failed. No issue with sound at all. Great little amp. Dave

Considered the VT pedal but I've tried the Roland GR6B settings for Ampeg sound but just not the same. I'm pretty happy with my GK after fiddling with it to get more of what I want. Think some misunderstanding of the contour and it tone settings just wasn't giving me the sound I thought I should have with it. Seems to be far better with contour off completely tho. What are you running at the moment JTUK. ?

I understand most of the 4x10 / 1x15 theoretical arguments and how that relates to PA set ups but having used 4x10, 1x15 set up albeit few yrs back I know from experience how you can balance your sound of each cab. Obviously the max volumes to each cab aren't really ever gonna be reached and therefore its a trade off to get the balance between the cabs, What has changed over the yrs and it is the part I had not taken into consideration was the improvements made to frequency response on each size off cab speaker. What is coming across is that sticking with the 4x10cabs might be the better option. Its therefore down to different types of 4x10 cabs which I think would be better tried somewhere to get a feel for their differences. Still it has created some stimulating debate. thanks guys for the advice. My GK amp with Berg cab actually sounded pretty damned good at rehearsals on Sun. All it took was a little fine tuning and understanding the effects of each tone contour etc. Gonna hold off for a bit to see how I get on with my existing kit but I have definite GAS for the Ampeg sound. ordered from Soundslive too. Had been checking on ebay and decided to check on BC for advice on best options and saw your post. Coincidence or what. Thanks Dave

ok guys you've lost me a bit with the roll off and F3 Any enlightenment would be appreciated. Sorry if I'm a bit slow on the theory. Can see the theory behind PA type set up but surely the 15 will have a different low end sound to the 4x10. Taking the volume out of the equation just to simplify things then with the x-over on the amp you can in theory direct more volume to the 15 than the 10's and boost the lower end with just enough clarity from the 10's cab. I appreciate in theory that when it comes to PA you would have more bass bins than mid as demonstrated earlier by Bill. But its not about volume its more about getting the balance between your low and mid end cabs. Surely if you direct more of the low end frequencies to the 15 and high end to 10's it should provide a cleaner sound overall. It always seemed to work for me with bi-amping in past. Dave

thanks xgsjx. will take a run in next weekend for a look. Mesa amps / cabs also get great reviews but they are megabucks. Looked at Markbass before buying the streamliner 600 and they looked good but my gut instinct is that the class D amps lack something in a classic rock setting and I cant quite put my finger on it. Tried few amps out that sounded great on their own but in a live band setting they just didn't cut it. Not sure if it was down to amp, cabs or combination I had but feel a tried and tested amp / cab match will offer best solution for me this time around. OR its just serious GAS that wont pass (excuse the pun) Dave

That's probably the way i'll go xgsjx with the one cab and if need be look at a 2nd. The cab I tried I'm pretty sure was the HLF version and I think it would be enough to satisfy my GAS. The problem I have with theories is that in practice my own experience with cabs is that no matter what the design spec is I find 10's don't give me that low end depth and altho I've not used a 15 in few yrs they never gave me that clear mid to top end. I have a combination of Berg cabs with Neo and ceramic speakers and the NEO's don't have the depth and the HT322 altho clear doesn't seem to hold enough depth or low end. That might be down to the GK Amp I'm using at the moment but my GB Streamliner also lacked a bit of low end with it. I've not long had the GK 1001RBi amp and still experimenting with my current cabs. Sound is ok but not exactly what I was looking for hence my query on the Ampeg gear. Oddly enough in the 80's I used a TE 4x10 Combo and it was sharp, clear with plenty of depth so as you can see I'm still in a quandry over this cab thing. Problem is in Scotland we don't have access to many shops with good quality gear especially Ampeg ? Its GAS at the moment but will see how it develops. I have a full gear rehearsal on Sun with my GK 1001RBi and Berg HT322 cab which will probably be the decider as to whether I will look more seriously at change. Dave

Historically I always bi-amped into 2 cabs to give me that low end and clear mids to high and with the Ampeg you have that built into one amp. It allows me to balance levels between cabs and just allows a little more flex. I'm aware of the mis-match theory but this set up is used in many professionals set up with 4x10 and 1x15 cabs. My own experience with cabs over many years with combinations of 10's, 12's and 15's I've never came across any issues. I've spent a small fortune over the years trying to get that perfect sound and balance and maybe its just GAS but on reflection I compare to a sound I have in my head (que Ampeg advert) and that is normally what Ampeg provide and I'm at a point where if that's what I'm comparing to then why do I not just buy that actual kit instead of trying everything else in an attempt to emulate which I have come very close with Genz Benz streamliner but not exact. Hope that explains my reasoning for query on different cabs. I haven't decided for certain and it may be that the HLF cab on its own might be all I need. I did try an Ampeg 4x10 cab in a studio once and it was pretty awesome sound from a Warwick Profet amp. The cab had amazing depth compared to my Bergs but still retained clarity. Problem is I cant remember whether it was HE or HLF cab.

Roland GR6B effects or BBE comp both have DI outs. Also carry my tiny GK MB200 which for its size is quite an amazing little piece of kit. Dave

I'm looking at one of these compared to HLF version and think its what I might be lacking with my Berg cabs is that low end depth you mention. Cheers Dave

Have you tried Mark at Bass Direct. ? I used the flat 19" rack tray for mine when I had the 600 streamliner. Dave

I'm thinking of going all Ampeg using an SVT4 Pro but not sure about the cabs. I'm looking at 4x10 and 1x15 using the amp x-over. Does anyone have actual hands on experience of the different cabs. Is there much diff between the HLF series and the HE series. They have slightly different freq ranges certainly at lower end. Any recommendations ? Its a classic heavy rock covers band. (if that helps ?) Cheers Dave

Berkley Studios in Glasgow are pretty good. Prices are very competitive and they are used by several famous bands and artists. circa £30/3hrs. They have lounges, vending machines and even toilets are clean. Pretty good selection of amps on hand incl Ampeg, Ashdown, EBS, Aguilar all with 8x10 cabs of some description usually ampeg. Dave

Only just managed to get a listen to your VID when I got home and bass doesn't sound too bad to me. Wonder if maybe a little compression on the bass would even the volume out a little altho it sounds pretty good the way it is. Tone wise it seems to fit well. I'm no expert in this kind of music but I'm really enjoying the song. Think the Auralex pad will help with what you are experiencing. Good luck and let us know how you get on Dave

i find on occasion that my jazz bass drops out a little on certain notes with certain settings both on bass and on amp and depending on rehearsal room or venue. As pointed out before i tend to either drop the bass a touch and boost the low mids and cut the high end a touch. Other option with the jazz is roll back the neck pick-up a touch and give the bridge pup that nice sharp, clear punch. The Auralex does make a fair differance in certain venues and always worth a try. Either try borrowing one or make your own. I use Bergantino cabs which have a pretty even sound quality over their frequency range. What i have noticed with my new GK amp is that with the contour on it drops out certain notes on the bass A string mainly. I now run with the contour OFF and boosted slightly on the low mids with everything else virtually flat. Also agree that adding a 2nd cab might benefit the overall presence of your sound within the mix. Lot more experienced guys have already covered with some excellent advice that i will be trying myself. Good luck Dave
Not the best pictures, taken with my phone, it looks so much better when you have it in your hands What do you think?
That's bloody impressive. I've got one of these and thought about removing the scratch plate for effect but this is out and out stunning. I use the schaller strap locks too and they are best i've tried. Found other types tended to loosen themselves regularly and put it down to length of lock from the bass body. Had to check them almost every time i used the bass. Since using Schallers i've never had to touch them. Dave -
I had been using the editor toggle altho i wasn't exactly sure what it was but it worked. Still didn't get the quotes to work but its all sorted now altho i'm typing from work at moment (just finished so its allowed) and its not a problem. Chrome def works 100% for me. Modern technology ....... what can you do ......eh !!!! thanks for the excellent replies and sorting it all out for me guys. Very much appreciated. Dave
