Have you considered the SVT4x10 cab rather than 8x10.I have an SVT4 Pro with Berg HT322 and it is a great sound however I find my Little Markbass stack cuts the mix far better and seems to be pretty nice comparison to the Ampeg sound. Obviously not identical but acceptable to me.Also have the GK 1001RBi amp but its quite a clean sound.

I bought a Dingwall NG2 last month and found it so easy to play. Someone stated somewhere that its the type of bass that makes you want to keep playing it. I compared against Combustion but preferred the more mid punch the NG2 produced aall from the slightly different pick up position. (using it on passive mode you can hear the diff) I also compared on the day i bought it with few other basses incl Sandberg & Spector but the Dingwall just seemed to be the natural feel of a bass. The neck and set up was spot on perfect. I've changed nothing which is odd for me because i like tweaking to be honest. As mentioned before string tone and tension is very even across all 5 strings. I keep the bass tone flat and use "in series" mode and it just sounds amazing. I've used it thru Markbass combo, Ampeg SVT4 or GK 1001RBi with Berg HT322 cab and it sounds fantastic with them all. At £1200 its incredible value for money and i've got everything from Custom Overwaters to Warwick Thumb to Fender and Jaydee. This bass beats them all fro feel. You will not be disappointed with a Dingwall. Fan-fret as mentioned before is seriously not an isue and if you don't think about it you won't even notice. I have the sunburst version and changed the strap buttons to stop neck dive completely. Other than that its pretty good value for the money altho i only paid £100 for it 2nd hand. I have a mate with the neck thru white version and if yours is same its pretty impressive for the money. All the best with your new bass. Dave -
I recently drove 300miles down to Bass Direct and the young lad I believe is Marcus was very helpful. Mark knew I was coming down that day however he was tied up on a phone conversation when I walked in. Marcus asked me roughly what I was looking for and brought down every bass I suggested and laid them out on stands for me. Plugged in a headphone set and left me to it. After a while he came back thru and asked how I was getting on. Gave me his experience and views on the basses I was looking at. Seemed surprised when I said I didn't like the Spector bass. We talked a little more and he left me to it again. I eventually narrowed it down to either Dingwall Combustion or NG2. Marcus talked over what he thought were the main differences and uses for each and we more or less agreed on that. He asked me what type of music I was playing and he thought the NG2 would suit better. At that point Mark came thru and was as nice as nine-pence. You couldn't get a better host. We talked a while and he more or less repeated Marcus view on the 2 basses and we then plugged into a Vanderkley amp and cab for the final decision. I made my mind up that the NG2 was more what I was looking for altho playability was even on both. We talked a bit about the other basses in stock and all in all I would have to say and excellent experience. I enjoyed their company for couple of hrs and left with my NG2. Another 300 mile drive home and I would have to say I would do it again. Very helpful without being over-powering. I did also discuss various amps I was using and Mark voiced some opinions that I was already aware of about amp voicing. He obviously prefers the clean hi-fi amps but fully understood my choice of either Markbass Combo or Ampeg SVT4 with Berg HT322 cab. I would have to say that everyone should visit Bass Direct once in their life. Great experience just to look around even if not buying. Dave
What hardware and OS are you using..? What (if any...) messages do you see..? I'm using Win 10 and Chrome on a PC, always using the 'Full Editor' and have no problems whatsoever. The following is my 'standard' response to pic problems ... I bought one early 80's and cost £740 Flame Sycamore lined fretless. Loved the playability, tone and the look. Down side was it had a dead spot on G string around the Eb and the response i got from them was it couldn't be their issue and weren't overly keen to sort it out. That's when they were hugely popular so maybe i wasn't important enough for them to take it seriously. Sold it within a year and bought a Fender Jazz. Would have to admit i've always thought they had a unique clean mid punch sound that i've always liked but just wouldn't buy another now. Think there are many just as good if not better basses on market now like my Overwater and al a lot cheaper too. Dave

This by UK has always impressed the hell outa me. Amazing bass sound from Mr Wetton. https://youtu.be/kRkkJKf-hnA And this tone from Mr Lee is by far one of the finest sounds i've ever heard from a bass https://youtu.be/KGsQ5n9Qu0A Dave

Think you should voice your opinion before leaving. Won't do any harm. There might be a simple reason for it as mentioned "vocal range" but that should be made clear from the singer that the songs he has picked are ones he can sing. If not then maybe time to move on and find people who respect everyone in the band. I've been in bands like yours where bass and drums are backing bands as far as guitarist / vocalist thought. Doesn't work, won't last. I've also been in bands where members didn't speak up when discussing choice of songs and after spending several weeks rehearsing them decided they didn't like them. Again didn't last. I like a leader in a band and by that i mean everyone has an opinion but one person has a final say and everyone is happy with that idea. It provides direction of sorts. Current 4 piece Prog band works that way. Every aspect of what is done is talked abbout either at rehearsal or via the usual FB or txt and if any doubt the leader who in this band writes majority of material will have a final decision if no-one else can decide. This works really well for me. Hope it works out either way for you but i guess that's just bands for you. ATB Dave

I think the new album is the best since the first one. The other albums I found a bit boring and couldn't really get into. -

Playing in a Prog band at moment and the lower B string just gives some parts of the songs a bit more depth. Not using it all the time but when you do it just vibrates the venue. I've been a big fan of 4 strings for yrs and have 5 & 6 string basses but for different reasons. My 6 fretless i bought to improve my overall technique. Couldn't get used to the 5 or 6 strings in a band situation but having bought myself a Dingwall 5er last week i'm finding it far easier to get into it mainly because the neck feels right compared to others i've tried. No reason why can't use 4 or 5 tho apart from cost that is. I would suggest trying lots of 5 stringers before changing tho. Dave

What an amazing bass solo ... or maybe not

Nice bass tho. Dave -
The biggest surprise to me was just how easy this bass is to play. Not specifically the fan-fret thing but just the feel of the bass and the neck itself suits me more than any other 5 or 6 string bass i've tried. I have tried other 5 string basses but always seemed to get lost on them with my right and left hand going out of sync and missing strings with my plucking hand. For some odd reason i've not experienced that issue with this bass. Probably down to fact the spacing is 18mm same as my other basses. I have a Peavey 5er but spacing is 16.5mm and that throws me every time. Dave

will no more as soon as i can get rehearsal done - ill health within the band has put on hold at moment. With regards the Darkglass pre-amp it does have a tone diff from standard but even on passive the pick-up config had similar effect on tone. The DG gave it that bit more edge / drive. Think it might be a personal preference tho and it just suits me. As Amnesia mentioned earlier "I just like it" sums it up for me and the bass does make you want to play it more and more like an addiction if you like. It just has a nice feel to it. Dave
Thanx ,thats what i thought you were going to say,id love one but a bit out of my price range, enjoy mate
About the same price as a good Fender bass but far better quality and value for money. This was probably top of my budget for a new bass but 2nd hand could probably have got a bit cheaper. If you are thinking of changing then give it some serious thought as they are outstanding IMO.
The NG-2 is a seriously nice bass. I love mine. I don't change the settings at all - volume full, pre-amp on, pickups series and tone controls centred. Fed through a B3K into big box of valves and its mega. I'm currently having a '93 Warwick Streamer LX refinished, and the Darkglass Tone Capsule preamp is going in that too. I'm in the Collective!! http://www.dingwallg...all-collective/
Nice write up in the collective. Impressive set of Dingwalls you have there.
Are the new combustion 5s any good?i know they might not be as good as than thn ng2 but are they close? Thanx
I was down to either the combustion or NG2. As far as playability and feel they are identical in every way. The pick up positioning means the NG2 has more mid punch whereas the combustion felt more even toned and probably more suited to covering all styles if you were in a covers band. The NG2 is more targeted for cutting thru a mix was what i felt after playing both. The NG2 also has the Darkglass pre-amp which gives it more edge and bite. With both basses on passive tho the NG2 still had more mid-range punch with the combustion more even across the tonal range possibly leaning towards a mid scoop smiley face tone. There really wasn't a lot in it and both basses would have suited me if i'm honest. The NG2 just edged ahead for my tastes. Dave

Keeps coming up with an error message and won't let me load pics i'm afraid. Will try again later. Will look into the Steller unit just in case an upgrade might be in order. Agree 100% with your fan fret description too. It really did surprise me how quickly you adapt and adapt is a strong word to use as it simpy feels natural. Dave
