1.
I'd just send him the measurements. If that's not good enough look for another buyer. This guy sounds picky enough to be trouble in the future.
Dave
2. Hi Michael, I'm no expert in GK sound but this one only has a GAIN control with no master volume so no real way to overdrive. It has a very distinct sound tho but its pretty clean and sharp in comparison to my Genz. I know Karlfer on here uses a MB500 and he swears by it. Might be better putting the question on the general page and get more feedback from the forum. I've only ever used this one at home as a bi-amp with my genz. It gives me the clean sharp edge with GK and the warm tube sound with the genz. Dave
3. I would have thought you would hear some kind of distortion of sound if you had been using sub-bass frequencies even by mistake. Its not normal for a speaker to just suddenly stop working under normal operation within its own spec. They may question the fact that your amp fires out higher wattage than speaker rated and therefore if speaker was being sub-basses in any way then you could see a failure but again I would have thought you would have heard something. Eminence speakers are meant to be pretty good quality so its a surprise one would fail but not impossible. Agree with sharing your amp frequency shelving provided it is within the spec of the speaker otherwise you could be shooting yourself in the foot. Also agree that if your debate with them isn't resolved amicably then cheaper to repair than legal costs and independent examinations. Sympathy for you. Dave
4. Great little amp. Not much bigger than a CD. Very sharp clean sound. Good luck with the Ampeg sale Dave
5. Price reduction £150 incl postage to UK type of bump. Dave
6.
Add a Genz Benz GBE 750 to the statistics. (Excited as Hull: ordered yesterday, paid today, and should be with me within two weeks.)
Ah ha so you went for GBE750 - nice one Basstractor. Definitely considered that one myself but have a severe hankering for GK 2001RB or Ampeg SVT4 altho i'm not 100% sure why. Good luck. Dave
7. Well guys Thomann came thru again with their usual high standard of Customer Service. Full refund issued no quibble. Amp had been held at routine customs check and as soon as they opened it up and checked all in order they emailed me that refund had been issued. Brings back my faith in some suppliers out there who are doing above and beyond to make sure customer is satisfied. Agree things can go a bit wrong at times but its how the shop deals with that issue that makes the difference. Dave
8. I used to set mine up with the GB into my Neo cabs and a Warwick amp into my ceramic cab and that gave me the perfect overall range of tones but a little on the heavy side for me tho. Worth experimenting if you can. My GB into my ceramic Berg cab gave me a typical classic rock sound similar to Rainbow Rising sound which was exactly what I was looking for. The Neo cabs I found were a bit more modern and suited jazz style better. Little less bottom end thud and more a lo-mid punch if that helps. Few GK Neo cabs for sale on here worth a look. Dave
9. Good to hear Garry. they are impressive amps and i'm still in 2 minds as to whether or not I should just keep it as a back up. All the very best with it. I tended to run mine almost flat with mid boosted on mid select frequency up to 2 o'clock. Seemed to give me that mid sound that cut the mix. I have found that different cabs make a huge difference too. My ceramic Berg cab has a more rounded low end whereas my Neo Berg cabs have a much more defined mid sound. Dave
10.
I don't think it's really 1600w. http://www.tcelectro..._management.pdf
That made for some interesting reading - thanks wateroftyne. Always amazes me how mfr twist their statements to make their gear look better than it sometimes is. Cheers Dave
11. Yep happy with what you've done. Seems ok to me. I normally tell a buyer that I can't make it to post office until Saturday mornings if a large parcel. Not so bad if its small where local PO will accept almost anywhere. I've never had anything but positive great comms comments on my feedback. Communication is the key. Shame that someone has to complain about few days altho give them some credit that they were waiting anxiously with a degree of excitement and that's why they got impatient - LOL Dave
12. Thanks guys - Thomann have told me today that they have finally received the amp and will issue the refund once unit has been checked over by technician. Not exactly sure why the refund is being issued after the tech checks it but to be fair they have kept me reasonably well informed. I guess every country has issues with Customs who are a law unto themselves. I'm pretty pleased that it ahs turned out good as I have always had a good opinion of Thomann who I have bought from over past few yrs without any major issue. Nice to have a reasonably happy ending to one of my so sad stories. Thanks again for the advice and all going well should be finally refunded soon Dave
13. I've just returned a Hartke Kilo which was faulty. After 2 weeks where the return parcel got held in German customs I have been told my refund will be issued once technicians check the unit. Not sure what they are checking for as they have a 30 day return if you don't like policy anyway. Return postage was free and their customer service is pretty damned impressive with me being emailed updates regularly. I've not really had much trouble over past few yrs having but a fair bit of gear from them. They are a very genuine upfront company to deal with and I wont hesitate to use them again in future unlike Hartke (sore point and couldn't resist another dig at them for poor gear and sloppy customer service) Thomann are an excellent company to deal with and if not sure about something give them a call. Very helpful on phone. Dave
14. Bought a Hartke Kilo. Faulty so Thomann sent me the returns document with pre-paid postage. Returned as per their procedure. Tracking shows amp was delivered to Koln IFS on 9th Sept. Called Thomann to find out when I would be refunded. Thomann wont refund until they receive the amp. They told me amp was with their Customs and was scheduled to be delivered on Mon 16th. Last night I opened an email from Thomann asking for the tracking details (which they sent me) Still no refund. Any thoughts on how to proceed with this especially if amp has disappeared. Who is responsible for the loss. Amp was paid by VISA. Should I contact them. ? Any advice welcome. Dave
15. No probs Martthebass. If things change let me know. Good to see you are keeping busy. Dave
16. No interest ? One just sold last night on ebay for £175 + postage ?? Great back up amp. Fits in the pocket of my Genz Benz streamliner gig bag its that small and lightweight. Nice clean sharp tone with contour switch. Dave
17. No interest ? great little amp with warm tube pre-amp and lots of power. Read the reviews on BC to see what you are missing. Dave
18. Yep I went from 4 fretted to 6 string fretless and couldn't understand why I hadn't done this yrs ago. Then started in a rock band again using 4 string jazz. I then had chance to play in a "Nickelback" style band and bought a 5 stringer to hit low tuning and now back to 4 string Warwick again cause its a more Free / Bad Company type band that needs a tight mid-punch to cut thru mix. Now back to where I ended up back in 80's with my trusty Thumb bass. Nothing like a bit of variety but I did retain string spacing same for all my basses where possible. Dave
19. finally a reply from Hartke tonight after 10 days asking me if issue resolved. Answer :- YES returned with refund. Wont buy Hartke gear again. Think it was Mr Hartke himself tho rather than their C.S. Dept. Maybe worth keeping this in mind before buying Hartke. Dave
20.
Tempted even if I really don't need it! :-)
Great little amp but I have serious GAS for a GK 2001RB and for some odd reason my wife wants me to cut down on my gear levels. Huh some people - she has loads of ornaments in the house - I don't ask her to get rid of something when she buys a new ornament. LOL Dave
21.
let me see what I can do for you!
Cheers Dood but no point now. Returned to Thomann awaiting refund but just wouldn't go near Hartke again. Unreliable gear with no customer service IMO. It's not the opinion of most tho who seem to get things sorted without issue. I just don't want to have to get a new amp repaired that quickly. Noted that Lefrash also had a fault on his LH500 when he bought it. Appreciate your offer tho Many thanks Dave
22. Come on Garry. Time to wake up mate. You should know me by now. We spoke about Parcelforce last week and discussed Hartke Kilo delivery at same time you were waiting on delivery of your GB. Just to refresh your ageing memory I use mine with 2 types of Bergantino cabs depending on gig or style of music. I have a ceramic Bergantino HT322 cab (4ohm) with 1x12, 2x10's & horn and is a bit of a heavyweight with a deep rich bottom end sound to it and more a traditional sound or I have 2off Berg Neo AE112 cabs (8ohm each) with horns which are very lightweight and have a more mid to hi end clarity with a very clear range. Both sound great with the GB 600 but produce very different sounds. Had a listen to your soundcloud tracks and 2 quite different sounding songs. In my opinion the Neo lightweight cabs wont have the bottom end feel you'll need for your sound and might be better looking at traditional ceramic type cabs like your imaginary 8x10 cabs altho they are extremely heavy to cart around and might be better with 2off 4x10's. I did try an Ampeg 4x10HLF in a studio last year and was very impressed by the roundness of its tone. Very full bodied yet clear. I was using it with a Warwick amp at the time so not sure what the GB sounded like thru it. Some great cabs out there. The HT322 I bought from Karlfer on BC couple yrs ago. The AE112 cabs from Mark at Bass Direct. One new the other almost new. Good deal from both Karlfer and Mark. Hope you are getting along well with your GB now that you've had week or so to experiment. All the best Dave
23. PRICE DROP £150 incl postage. WITHDRAWN - Gonna keep it as a small practice amp. Selling my little pocket size Gallien Krueger MB200. GAS for a Gallien Krueger 2001RB This little amp puts out 200W at 4ohms, not much bigger than a CD and extremely light weight. GAIN, Treble, Hi-Mid, Lo-Mid, Bass controls with -10 PAD and contour switch. Speakon connector. Original packaging. Never been out of the house. Used as a back up to my Genz Benz amp altho I've used it Bi-amp at home. It has a very clear pure sound and the usual GK build quality and reliability. Never been used at more than 30% Gain. £150 incl postage to UK. If you are local to Lanark area and want to hear this little beauty then let me know. I have a good supply of different basses and Bergantino cabs (Neo & Ceramic)to let you try it out. Cheers Dave
