1. My favs are all there so nothing more to add than "damned impressive list" Great topic Dave
2. WHOW !!! What a nice technique he has. Very relaxed in what he playing. Thoroughly enjoyed. Some pretty unusual things happening but so melodic. Hope to hear more from him soon. Cheers and thanks Dave
3. Finally decided to look at another amp and went for the Hartke Kilo from Thomann at £685 approx. £100 cheaper than most places. Was also looking at the Ampeg SVT4 but the Hartke just seemed to be able to produce more of what i wanted. Once I'm happy with it i'll be looking to sell my GB 600 streamliner and GK MB200. Delivery expected Mon / Tues with Thomann's usual fast delivery service. Not often I get excited about gear or amps in particular but this one i'm very much looking forward to giving it a good blast at next rehearsal. Cheers Dave
4.
Next time he/she practices you should mimic what they play so they think they've got some delay unit plugged in somewhere. It'll drive them nuts.
5. Good review. I'm looking at Ampeg SVT4 and hadn't considered the SVT7. After this review it sounds like a viable option. I have also been looking at Hartke Kilo but not sure on Hartke. Need more research before diving in. Thanks Dave
6. Oooh that's a nice rig and a fantastic price for Mesa cabs. Afraid I already have more Berg cabs than I need and don't think the boss would approve of me adding these to the collection. All the very best with the sale tho. Nice basses too. Dave
7. Great price for this. Good luck. Little too far away for me i think. How old is it. ? Dave
8. Would this help clean up my sound ?
9. Seconds Out is up there with Floyds Dark Side of the Moon in my book. 2 of my fav albums from that era. Saw them on the Duke tour and have met them all - even had coffee with Mr Collins who is an absolute gentleman and very friendly. An album I think sometimes gets a bit over-looked is "Then there were Three" which has some great tracks on it. I'm pretty sure I have a live tape from around 82 could have been Wembley but off hand not sure. Great band and I like various songs from all Genesis eras but Trick, 2nds Out and Ttw3 are the highlights for me. Dave
10. Tickets to Waterfalls was from Jacks solo album if I remember right "Themes from an Imaginery Theme" (think that was the title) I have that on vinyl. Cosy Powell albums also had the fantastic Mr Neil Murray doing some of the bass lines altho Jack's punchy mid sound from his Aria SB just seemed to stand out far better. That was a great period for session albums from quite a few musicians. I'll check my old tapes in the loft to see if I might have anything from that era. Pretty sure I have some live tapes from Tommy Vance but cant remember which ones. Dave
11. Agree. I bought one earlier this year and they are great value for money - even new so this is a steal at this price. Dave
12. Very nice. Really like that sound, technique is great and very impressive. Seems so natural.
13.
You have just nailed my exact same sentiments!!!!!!!! Could not agree more - his Fender/Sansamp combination over the last few years leaves me cold.
Agree - preferred his earlier sound even when he used the Jazz.
14.
What do you mean by " helped boost the ratings" exactly? Surely you're not suggesting that large numbers of people went to see that tour because of who was playing bass?
Its why I bought the Video. I saw a clip of him playing and bought it - i was never a huge fan until i heard this live vid. I did say helped boost the ratings. I just think for me it added a bit more excitement. Whether it did actually sell more tickets i'm not sure but i would have made the effort to see that tour rather than the later tours where the sound became dull IMO and again its simply down to personal preference. NO I don't think GP makes Pink Floyd but as a bassist myself i like and appreciate a good bassist with an aire of style and entertainment - not a bassist who does overkill tho and i think GP hit it spot on with the DSoT tour. I haven't bought another Floyd live album since to be honest .If you put same question to people who suggested Tony Levin would have been a better choice would TL fans have gone just because TL was playing. I would think probably some but as mentioned probably not a lot. This was the first time i had heard GP and i was fairly impressed enough to buy the album and VID. Maybe it was just my excitement of posting a comment on BC about a tour i just really liked and enjoyed ???. Dave
15. DSoM is still my fav followed by Animals and then love DSoT live tour simply because I think that the band and sound they had gave Floyd that added excitement for a live gig. Would agree that RW original bass lines are by far the best and most suited for the original songs but you have to admit that GP helped boost the ratings on the live tour with his dynamic style rather than basic solid bass lines. All down to personal preference at the end of the day. I found that Guys sound on following tours was much more subdued and plain with no bass definition and more a dull thud to me and that is similar to how Gilmour likes the bass on his solo albums. It begins to sound like a digital bass sound which i'm not a big fan off and the main reason I cant really get into Gilmours solo material. No matter what Floyd - they are all great versions. Dave
16. Guy was brilliant on the Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour and gave Floyd that additional lift they needed at that time. not sure what the bass sounds like but will have a listen when i get home. Have you tried googling or Youtube it out of curiousity. Might come up with something. Dave
17. Got asked to supply a PA and do a few support numbers for friends band at Rosyth Naval base Officers Club once in early 90's. We were long haired jeans and T's but decided for a laugh we would wear suits just before going on. Our mates were stunned to say the least and they went on with jeans etc. We got asked back and they didn't so it worked for us but it was all tongue in cheek. We didn't actually go back. Too much hassle getting in and out for us. It may be they want you to dress accordingly while not on stage but dress as you would normally when playing. ??? Dave
18. This could turn into a BC evening by sound of it. Sad to say I'm down Lanark / Biggar way so wont manage. Curious about the buttery thing. Is that the same as a soda scone or is it of a lighter composition. ?? I'm a Scot and well travelled all over our wee country including Aberdeen City and some of the surrounding areas and haven't heard of it. Post a photo. Hope the gig goes down well guys. They are usually a good crowd in that area and up for a good night out so should be a night to remember. All the very best Dave
19. Great stuff. Real feel good factor coming from your post. Well done. Dave
20. my Jazz (Geddy sig) - my goto bass my Warwick Thumb NT with EMG's - bought new in 89 my Overwater 6 stringer fretless i bought a few yrs ago. WAL custom - had a fretless one & sold it in 80's - would love another cause they have a distinct clean sound. either a Rik or Prec but not sure which. Dave
21. I've just picked up an Epi T'bird for £100. Has a few knocks but feels and plays pretty good. Moved the strap button to the neck heel as suggested and what a differance. I quite fancy trying the Gibson out now. I guess as people have pointed out its nice having the genuine article and yes its a bit of bass snobbery but then again isnt that we are all about. People buy Fenders rather than Squiers because they want people to know they have a Fender and not a copy so whats the big deal. Vanity plays a big part in being a bass player so enjoy it and go for what makes you happy. Now where's my wife's purse to see if i can borrow some money for a Gibson T'bird. Mmmmm Dave
22. Nice looking amp but we don't see many Carvin amps over here especially in Scotland. Difficult to judge an amp when you've never really seen one in the flesh. Not sure how they would support the amp over here if you experienced a fault ? Shame cause their gear does look pretty smart. Dave
23. I'm using 2off AE112 cabs with horns. I tend to turn the lower cab horn back to 9 o'clock position and the top cab at 12. I'm running them from a Genz 600 Streamliner and the sound is quite deceiving. If you stand in front of them at a gig you dont appreciate how full sounding they come across. Move forward into the room and all of a sudden you get full bodied Jazz bass sounds - Lovely. The full band has now stated that it is the best sounding bass they have ever come across. We are all 50 ish with lots of band experience across all styles of music. Quite a compliment. Sound wise it has a nice warm feel from the tube pre-amp. No harsh top end or thudding bottom end - just nice well defined and nicely rounded bass sounds. Cant go wrong with Berg cabs IMHO. Dave
24. Agree I bought one for my Berg HT322 cab and its a great fit. They hadn't done one for a Berg cab before but they double checked my sizes against manufacturer and i got exactly what i was looking for. No fuss just good down to earth service. And at pretty reasonable prices too. Well done. Dave
