  1. Saw them a few yrs back supporting Deep Purple i think it was. Great band and didn't even know they were still going. Dave
  2. Oh yes you are a cool dude on stage Daryl. Sure i've mentioned it to you over the years plus i hope i look that good at your age. Nice one Dave
  3. Loving the outfits there guys. That's more like my style of Glam outfit. Nice one. Dave
  4. I think we are in very similar situation with our bands Daryl altho i wasn't to begin with when i started on BC but how things change Once you get used to the income its harder to walk away from it. Dave
  5. You didn't mention the money side of it but we would price appropriately. We always quote 2 x 1hr sets as our typical show but we are always prepared to accommodate the venue. If venue is ok with it we will do 2.5hr show with one 15-20min break. Dave
  6. Hopefully not a permanent thing and you can get back to full gigging fitness again. If not do what i did when i had a temporary shoulder/back issue i bought a Gruvgear duo strap. Worked pretty well and once shoulder was ok i used the main part as a single strap. Still using it several yrs later. Dave
  7. I'd be ok with it if i was getting the 3 extended breaks but it does become a long day especially when you add travel time and gear set / dismantle time but yes i'd do it. Dave
  8. When i joined BC playing in bands was purely a hobby for me. That was quite a few yrs back. Since retiring early i started playing more seriously with the bands i was part off. When i finally got the Glam covers band going i was kinda hooked into playing both for enjoyment and the income was certainly useful. Now i'm quite annoyed if the fee isn't what i'm used to. The number of gigs i'm doing in a year doubled in 2023 and has tripled for this year but it still feels more like a busy hobby for me and i'm happy with that. I have a lot more respect for musicians like Daryl @Bluewine who earn a living from playing. Its not an easy job to take on making sure the gigs are there every weekend. I can see it being quite stressful in that respect so all credit to all the guys earning a fulltime living from gigging. My respect to you all. Dave
  9. Oddly enough the pick ups can be put into serial or parallel mode. In parallel mode the pick ups are def louder and deeper almost boomy with a lack of hi-mid clarity IMO. To be fair i haven't experimented with that position. At the last gig i used series mode and couldn't hear the top end too well and this is the surprising part that wehn i put it into P position only the top end and depth was there. That did surprise me but i have to admit that P pick up is pretty impressive. Dave
  10. Just bought a passive Godin Shifter bass and i love it but i've noticed the pick-ups are very hot even compared to my active basses. Compared with my other passive basses with amp at exact same settings and bass volumes at max i find with the Godin volume i need to turn the volume on the bass down to less than half the pot range. Its not a major issue by any means but i'm now curious. What causes a pick up to be this hot ? Is it the number of windings in the coils ? Is it just the resistance of the coil wire V's coil windings etc ? I'm just curious TBH. Dave
  11. Sad news, had several conversations with him over the years. Condolences to his family. Our thoughts are with them. Dave
  12. Still impressive tho. Dave
  13. @Steve_M that's an impressive workload. Are you full time at this not that it matters its still quite an achievement. Well done sir. Dave
  14. How far was the run to Brighton for you @Clarky ? Playing is still a hobby for me too and i've played gigs and it cost me money but i'm trying to avoid that nowadays. Need to at least break even. The gigs where i took a loss were when fuel prices were ridiculous but we had already agreed a price with the venue. Dave
  15. Punk gig with Emergency Exit last night 6-9pm so able to get a kebab on way home Fairly busy but not packed. Few dancers throughout the evening. Used the Godin Shifter Classic for its first gig. Took me a while to get a sound i enjoyed altho others said it sounded deep and more full sounding than my MarloweDK. I think my problem was where i was standing directly in front of the amp it was just hard to hear an accurate sound. Some vids appeared late last night and the bass sounds really nice so i think its a keeper. Great neck and very easy to play. Pick-ups are very hot on the Godin and i had to drop the compression level and gain quite a bit to stop peaking which is always my starting point for any new bass and then i start bringing the gain back up to get that little bit of overdrive. New Pinegove strap i got from @walshy worked a treat with no shoulder aches at all. Ampeg SVT7 and Mesa cabs Great night with enthusiastic audience. Dave
  16. What's the band called @WalMan. I'm a big fan of Prog and love hearing covers of classic prog songs. Dave
  17. My days of spending that kind of money on a bass to lie in the house as an ornament are long gone. Happier buying basses i can gig with and that fit the band image. Afraid an alembic doesn't really fit with Glam and punk band images. How shallow am i Dave
  18. Sad for city centre venues and for a lot of bands that just can't afford to play there these days. Lot of venues in Glasgow will be feeling it. Glasgow also has certain roads only for buses during day time hrs but open up after 6pm to all traffic. Its not exactly clear when you're trying to navigate traffic and pedestrians just wandering across roads as and wherever they like so its easy to miss a road sign. Too many traffic lights and road signs in one area can cause people to miss something. Its brain overload at times. Every time i go into Glasgow they've changed the road layout and traffic management system. One night after a Glasgow rehearsal 1-12pm they had closed off the slip road onto the motorway and the diversion was in thru the town centre. What happens if your car is not ULEZ compliant but you have no option. Dave
  19. Whimp. Its embarrassing to watch. Maybe he was a professional footballer when he was younger Dave
  20. Our band is same, all from different areas so a single vehicle just doesn't work for us. If we need a van for our larger PA we hire one as a band but its only myself as the nominated driver and the drummer who lives 30mins drive from me. I ended up the nominated van getter and driver because i was retired and not working so pick up and drop off was easier for me. Obviously you guys have a lot more gear for the size of the venues you play. I know a few tribute bands that just turn up with their own backline and hire a PA and lighting either thru the theatres or a local reputable company. Dave
  21. You could add it to the fee i guess but pretty sure the venues wouldn't be too pleased. What you guys need is a single 7.5t truck. All the gear in one vehicle. Dave
  22. Sorry to hear you're having to give up one of your main hobbies Dave. Fully understand your thinking and i'll do the same when the time comes one way or another. Cracking bass too. I'm guessing its the wider neck. Pretty sure it won't last long here GLWTS. Take care. Dave
  23. Cracking venue Daryl. Well done sir. Dave
  24. Doesn't help when you get charged for the day up to midnight and again after midnight rather than just one charge for a single event. Not sure if you can get a permit that allows you one charge for both days ? Probably not. Glasgow council finances are in a poor state. Dave
