Something you can consider if its all about creating an atmosphere is free tickets to close friends and family. I've always found that the more people you can get into the venue the better the band will play. Don't over-price your tickets either. Keep it low and just enough to cover the hire of the venue if you can and if it means taking a bit f a loss that is acceptable to all band members it will get you noticed more. Consider hiring a photographer or vids that you can use as advertising and to show other venues what you look like and how you sound.. I'm old school and we still hand out posters with band pics to any venues we play. Most put them up well before the gig and it attracts the attention of passers by in the venues who may not have heard we are playing. It all helps. Look out local Facebook gig guide pages in your area and start posting gigs there. You can also see where similar style of bands are playing that you might not have thought about. Glasgow has FB pages where you can just post your own band vids from gigs you've done. Getting your band out there can be hard work and take some time. All the best and keep us all posted on how things go. The one thing i haven't asked is "what kind of music are you playing" ? Dave

Think the Fullerton versions are the US built basses rather than the cheaper "Tribute" series basses. Fullerton is the home of G&L as far as i know. The Tribute basses are circa £300 over here whereas the Fullerton US made basses are up in £1k - £2k range if i remember right. Dave EDIT :- just saw the other posts with Fullerton info.

I remember playing in the Burns bar in mid 80's just up the road from it. I was depping in that band and because it went down so well they asked if i would stay on. Happy days. Dave

I see where the blues bit comes in now. Really great song and enjoyed it. Some talented musicians there. Nicely balanced sound. Nice bass tone there as well Daryl. Think you already said that you all go thru the PA. Liking that bass a lot too. Is it one of the Fulllerton ones ?

Really enjoyed that Daryl. Def drop the Blues part of the name as that doesn't really sound blues to me. Its got more of a Country feel. Sounds great tho. I would come see you if i was a bit closer. Dave

Romano Bridge isn't that far from me. Nice little area too. The 68 was a great road for bikes but fixed speed cameras are a nuisance these days. Did Biggar to Dover in 9hrs, 2 up and fully loaded Harley heading for France. When we left early morning glorious sunshine and warm the M74 was so quiet we just thought we would make the best of it but my wife ended up feeling queezy until we realised the bike was undulating on the road due to the speed and fully loaded almost like seasickness. Slowed down to legal limits sort of and she was fine. As soon as she stepped off the bike she was perfect so it was really weird and the only time its ever happened to her. She has fell asleep a few times on the back in all weathers including torrential rain and gusting sidewinds. These days i stick to dry sunny days on the bike. Its an age thing. PS it took me 13hrs on way home from Dover during the Kent storms and flooding mid 2000's. Dave

Dead Flowers by any chance as i saw the venue list of bands this month and November. Its one of those venues that just depresses you Stevie. Dave

To be honest when i'm heading home from East coast i never go past Newcastle depending on where i've been so i don't really know the A1 from Newcastle to Edinburgh area. When you look at the route on the map it does make sense using the 66 rather than following the coast to Edinburgh. Only thing i would say is that the road from Biggar to Edinburgh always seems to have a lot of roadworks more so in recent years so i cut across country to M8 at Bathgate and head North from there over Forth Bridge. Not a happy looking drummer there

That was the other issue last night with us. From the outset we were asked to keep the volume down. It was so low my speakers weren't really doing much and sounded a bit dead. For a punk band it just didn't feel right and few friends said it was far too low. Dave

Gotta wonder how you ended up thru Biggar heading from Hull to Kinross all on the East Coast. ? All the best with the gig tonight. Dave
-
WOW that's a bit of a drive for you Steve. Was he not playing anywhere closer to you. ? Altho my address has Biggar as main town i'm 6 miles outside Biggar on way to Lanark so maybe a little out of your way but you would always be welcome to drop in for a coffee and a chat Steve. How was the gig. ? Dave

Is there an option for you to hire a venue and self promote and take tickets at door kind of thing even if its just to get you out there. Some start up bands i've been in over the (many many) years did that and it does work. Unfortunately i don't know your local area but my Glam covers band are spread over a large area from Leadhills to Perth up here in Scotland approx 100 miles apart and myself and drummer out in sticks means we all have to travel a fair distance for even small gigs. We do try and keep gigs more central for us all. My point being that travel is just part of being in a band. We don't have a van but all travel in our own cars. If we need the full PA for larger gigs we do hire a van and myself and drummer share it but van hire comes out of the fee at end of the night.. Dave

Last night was a punk gig with Emergency Exit in Graeme Hotel in Falkirk. Not the best night i've had. With us not gigging this band as often as we used to the mistakes are creeping in and there were quite a few last night. Its very annoying for me as we previously made very few mistakes if any so rehearsals will now be booked between gigs. Did a couple of new SLF songs. Gotta Getaway went pretty well and punk fans really appreciated that one. Nobody's Hero by SLF was ok but something went a bit off around 3rd verse. Still not sure what happened but i seemed to lose my way a bit but picked it up again. Audience still thought it was good. This was only the 2nd time we've attempted it without rehearsals but we should be better. Its an odd venue. I always feel like i'm just the jukebox in the corner every time i play there. Its a footie bar and most of the audience are run overs from those watching football all afternoon so they just happen to be there rather than there for you. Singer reckoned it was like pulling teeth trying to get a reaction. Personally i would rather just avoid this venue but a gigs a gig as they say. Dave

Keep at it. Originals can be difficult in some areas but hopefully once it starts the pace will pick up for you guys. Dave

Even tho i buy lots thru Amazon i didn't even think of that Pete. Bit of a "Doh" moment there for me. Dave

No tension or drama is good. If it works, don't fix it Daryl Dave

Better have a look for some with covid on the increase. Dave
-
And use it very well i have to say. I had covid in March this year and it was no more than a runny nose. Don't even know where you get the test kits from nowadays. Dave
-
Hope it wasn't this covid revival we keep hearing about but sounds like you had a great gig there. Nice support slot with 999 too. Well done. Hope you feel better soon. Dave

My ideas are different from band members too at times but we generally discuss any suggestion or idea and take a vote on it. Its more of what do you guys think and everyone will comment and you can get the gist of what others think. We don't do the hands up if you agree thing but it is pretty easy going. With the punk band i just go with it as they've been together for 13 yrs i think and the guitarist was the original punk member from 77/78 era. And sometimes "Old School" ideas are tried and tested to work and should be open to suggestions. Different when its your job to be fair. Dave

It is my own hair but like all good bass players they have a back up in event of a bad hair day Dave

Part of my Glam rock stage gear. ............... honest.

I struggle with how that actually works Daryl. We keep each other up to date via FB private chat page. That works in both bands. We don't really socialise together because we live in different parts of the country with some working and others not. No decision is made until everyone has agreed on the FB message. During Pandemic we kept in touch via group vid linking on a 2 weekly basis. Just for a catch up chat and keep things in motion over that lockdown period. Dave

There's a distinct common theme other than the T shirt. We all have long white-ish hair. Must be an age thing Dave
