  1. I had to get the EMG pre replaced few yrs ago when it packed in. Only option Warwick could offer was the MEC one which was fitted by Luthier in Edinburgh and it sounds good. I think i preferred the EMG pre but that could be all in my head. The EMG pre was the encapsulated box version. Dave
  2. Must admit i quite enjoy looking at and trying out new amps, not so much cabs but amps interest me too. I'm always amazed at the differences in tone from different amps during a gig. TBH they all sound similar when i hear or see any vid recordings Dave
  3. Nope its always been a hobby for me. As long as people enjoyed the gigs i've played then i'm happy and successful. Always had a good paying job that i used to enjoy when i was younger so giving that up was a no brainer for me. Had the opportunities in 80's to take things up a notch but said no as it meant giving up my job and moving South to either Midlands or London areas and i kept my sensible head on. The bands that made the offers never amounted to much more than i have now. At the moment i'm where i want to be in life. Retired on my 56th birthday and enjoying both bands and getting more than enough gigs throughout the year. I get sell out gigs so must be doing something right No regrets. Dave
  4. I've used GAK for strings a few times and get next day delivery too. Dave
  5. Good job you weren't playing in Scotland as the Midges would have eaten you alive. Big teeth, tackety boots and all. Dave
  6. At the moment i'm GAS free. Since buying the Ampeg SVT7 Pro i'm a lot more settled with my bass tone. Can't think of anything specific i want. Dave
  7. The older ones are by far the better necks IMO. Did look at a 6 once but went for my Overwater custom 6er fretless. Dave
  8. Decided to dust down my old Warwick Thumb NT89 yesterday for a wee blast and i had forgotten how amazing it sounds with a nice mid cutting thru. Such a fantastic neck to play. Enjoyed it so much i had to have another go today. Still has the same elixir strings i put on 2010 and it still has a bit of zing in them even now. To be fair i very rarely play it but i've had it since 89 bought new and its a keeper for me. Dave
  9. Ooohhh that is so nice. If i had been a bit closer i might have been tempted there. GLWTS. Dave
  10. Just got the Bernie Marsden album on CD today. Got the original vinyl and had completely forgotten how good the album was and with his passing recently it brought back some great memories of music around this time. Featuring my bass heroes Jack Bruce and Neil Murray.
  11. Have to admit it wasn't easy and did take me quite a while. Dave
  12. I did that a few yrs ago purely as a test to see if i could do it. Problem i found was the stamina to keep it going. Eventually got it right but it was hard going. Completely forgot it now tho. Dave
  13. Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on ............... you know ya wanna. Go on ....... tell us ........ please Dave
  14. You've no space to keep another bass. My suggestion is you get it made and i'll keep it here for you. Dave
  15. I've always been like that. I must have been old at 18 I've always put it down to being an engineer. Focused on one problem until fixed and then moved on to the next. Constant problem after problem with no time to reflect on how it was done. Dave
  16. Bet that sounded great with that Ampeg rig. Dave
  17. Our singer has a gorgeous Squier Jazz in natural wood with rolled maple neck and if it wasn't a left hander i'd have bought it from him. The neck is almost as good as my Geddy Jazz and it just feels so well built. Dave
  18. I now have a hankering for an Xotic J bass that's in Bass Direct. Just love the looks of them and the in built EQ looks very interesting. Any reviews i've seen have been good. It could be "the one". Wish i hadn't followed this thread now. Dave
  19. I hate buying and selling basses but i agree 100% that bass price doesn't guarantee a great bass. My Geddy Jazz CIJ i got new in a sale at £625 around 2010 and its just a fantastic bass. Compared to the pricier USA Jazz basses i've owned or tried over the years it just knocks them out the park IMO. Dave
